You, Me and the Apocalypse S1E4 Review

You, Me and the Apocalypse S1E4 Review

NBC
I have not been impressed with You, Me and the Apocalypse so far, and not just because of the lack of a comma after the word "Me" in the title. This week, it really needs to impress me, or I will be dropping it.

S1E4 "What Happens to Idiots"

Twenty-six days before the apocalypse, Rhonda and Leanne are in Arkansas, hiding on a boat, as a policewoman looks for them. It is pretty funny. Rhonda's son helps Ariel, and then he knocks him out. Leanne wants to kill the man they forced to help them, but Rhonda insists that they don't. Jamie and his friend reach the place where his mother is supposed to be, but no visitors are allowed. He steals the ID of a person who works there at a pub. Celine and the priest see a jumper, and the people that we saw at the end of the last episode are there, but they decide that this is not the place because there are too many people.

Rhonda and Leanne break into a hotel. The jumper wants to talk to the priest, and he agrees. The person working with Ariel tells him that the comet is real. The priest talks to the jumper, who hates the church and wants people to listen. He throws flyers down. I had a little laugh when the priest said that he had no idea what he was doing. The people from the church are very angry about the flyers, and, unlike Celine, don't care about the jumper. Rhonda and Leanne discover a boy who is watching them, and Rhonda handles the situation. The priest tells the jumper not to jump because he has children, and tells a personal story from his life. This scene actually got really deep. The clock struck five o'clock, and the man decided not to jump. Celine overhears a conversation the other priest has on the phone about spinning this in their favor.

Jamie and his friend get into the mental hospital. It has been a long time since we saw them in this episode. They find his mother, and he eventually says his name. Ariel concludes that there must be some plan to survive the comet, and he wants to get in on it. Jamie and his friend find a bill, and they find Ariel's address. Jamie doesn't want to leave, though. Someone who works there shows up. The friend pretends to be a patient, and Jamie pretends to be someone from the agency. He ends up having to give his friend a sedative, and they have to give it to him...not through his mouth. Rhonda finds out that the boy called the police, so she is forced to come out of the house pointing her gun at him.

Jamie and his friend try to get his mother out of the hospital, but the medicine ends up kicking in. Rhonda demands that Leanne is uncuffed. After she is, she steals a gun. This scene ends up getting really funny. Leanne tells them all to get into their trunks, and then they escape. It is definitely the best scene of this show. Jamie gets out of the mental hospital. Back in the Vatican, where we haven't been for a little while in this episode, Celine talks to the priest. Ariel discovers what Rhonda's brother is up to, and his brother wonders if God exists and they are the chosen ones. Rhonda and Leanne leave the main cop tied up, and then they drive off. Ariel kills the person he is working with, and tells Spike that's what happens to idiots.

This episode is better than the last ones. And despite the great moments such as "Leanne says", I am done with this show. It was a pretty good episode, but not quite good enough.

You, Me and the Apocalypse S1E3 Review

King of the Flat Screen
I haven't been so crazy about You, Me and the Apocalypse so far (and realizing that there is no comma after "Me" in the title has also been frustrating). I'm still sticking around for now. If this episode happens to be significantly worse than the first two, then I may give it up. If this episode and the following one are just as good/just as bad as the first two, then I will give it up after next week. But maybe it can improve soon enough, we'll just have to wait and see.

S1E3 "Still Stuff Worth Fighting for"

We again start the episode seeing the end of the world, and it seems that these people may be the people who get to survive the apocalypse. Thirty-two days earlier, the characters' stories are all picking up where they left off. Rhonda and Leanne are stealing clothes. Rhonda gets caught by the man who owns the house. Jamie meets the woman who thinks that he's Ariel. She makes him apologize, and it is really funny.

Celine and the priest are on an airplane, and she has never flown before. He tells her that she can't put much work into each of the cases, because they only have thirty-two days and no one is thinking rationally. Jamie tries to help the woman when she needs to go to the hospital. The priest and Celine arrive in Warsaw, where everyone is acting crazy. It turns out that there was a resurrection, and that is why people reacted in the way that they did.

It turns out that Jamie, his friend, and the woman have no way of getting to the hospital, so they will have to deliver the baby themselves. Rhonda talks with the man, who did not call the police. She asks him who the clothes belong to, and he says that he likes to dress like a lady, which he has never told anyone before. Meanwhile, Rhonda's son is living with his father, which is miserable. She calls her brother, and he says that the father gave a false address. She then ends up at gun point again.

The priest and Celine meet with the kid. She won't talk to the priest, because her mother says they are perverts, but she will talk to Celine. The woman Jamie is with gives birth, but the baby doesn't breath at first. He tells the baby that there is still stuff worth fighting for, and the baby breathes. The woman realizes that Jamie isn't actually Ariel. The priest talks to the mother while Celine talks to the girl, who says that she is hearing a voice ever since she woke up. The priest offers for the mother and daughter to come with them on the plane. Ariel finds Spike, Rhonda's son, and he goes with him. The police arrive to take Rhonda, but it turns out that it is actually Leanne, which is pretty funny.

The priest tells the crowd that the girl is not Jesus, and he gets attacked. Rhonda's brother talks to the man he works with, who turns out to be his lover as well. Leanne and Rhonda talk, and she reveals how much she is looking out for her. Rhonda wants to be the cop for a little while, which is a little bit funny. The woman shows Jamie a 3D model that his mother made, and she reveals that she is now at a psychiatric hospital. The episode ends strangely, with two people being given pictures of people including Rhonda, her brother, and the priest.

The story is starting to get interesting, and there were a few funny moments. This episode was about on par with the previous episodes, it was an alright episode.

Vulture
I wasn't very big on the premiere of You, Me and the Apocalypse. It got off to a terrible start, but it improved as the episode went on. Will this episode continue the improvement? Read on for my thoughts.

S1E2 "An Erotic Odyssey"

The episode again starts at the end of the world, but it doesn't seem like we are getting any new material. Thirty-three days earlier, Rhonda, the librarian, meets the person who gave her a ride, a hacker. He believes that she is a hacker because she took the blame for what her son did. Meanwhile, Jamie is freaking out. He then visits his mother, and she is doing a whole lot worse, and she is the only person so far this episode to have a reasonable reaction to the news. Meanwhile, the priest tells the nun he isn't a morning person, and the president is briefed by the expert in these types of situations. Jamie wants to know about his birth mother, so his mother tells him, and calls his birth mother "weird", which is really funny. The priest is given a new task, investigating the second coming of Christ.

The priest tells the nun his new job, and that he is worried that he will anger the Messiah, which is pretty funny. The president is informed of a plan he should announce, but there are currently no details to this plan. Jamie's friend encourages him to not follow the rules, so Jamie drives through a field. The swastika woman discovers that they are not going toward DC, and she orders them to stop the ambulance. Then, a person lands on the windshield.

Everyone is okay when the ambulance flipped, but the swastika woman is stuck. The hacker comes up with a plan, that they will call 911 anonymously and she will be rescued, and they will be rid of her. Jamie's friend wants to stand on top of the car as he drives, because it is on his bucket list. They run into an old couple having sex, and this is hilarious, especially when they go around. Wonderful British humor. Rhonda calls her brother, who turns out to be the person who was briefing the president. The priest and the nun talk about the antichrist, and he is unsure that he has the necessary skills. The president is informed of a plan. Only 15 people can be saved, so they will save 15 women, and they will have a sperm bank.

Jamie and his friend arrive at the place he thinks his mother might be, but it seems that the place is empty. Rhonda discovers that she has actually been kidnapped, but they discover that her son is the hacker. They let her go, in the middle of nowhere. Jamie and his friend get shot by darts and pass out. The president makes an announcement, and Rhonda saves the swastika woman. Rhonda decides to walk, and she hides behind a sign when the woman comes along, which is hilarious. The president decides to go along with the plan. Jamie and his friend wake up, both chained, and the woman believes that Jamie is his brother, the hacker.

This episode had some good moments, but overall it wasn't that good. It was alright.

You, Me, and the Apocalypse Series Premiere Review

You, Me, and the Apocalypse Series Premiere Review

Denver Post
You, Me, and the Apocalypse is the kind of show that could easily be a great crazy comedy or a strange, no-good show. Which will it be? Read on for my thoughts on the premiere!

S1E1 "Who Are These People?"

The episode started at the end of the world, before going back thirty-four days. I think it was a great way to start the episode. It immediately grabbed the audience's attention. Thirty-four days earlier, the main character wakes up in the morning in England and records a video message on his computer. Next, a woman is going to jail in New Mexico. She is very worried, and it is kind of odd. A woman in the cell next to her, who has a swastika on her head, befriends her. Back in England, two friends talk and they are being watched. In Italy, a nun is not getting along with the other nuns. She is told that she is needed elsewhere, and she goes there. The man being watched gets visited by his mother at work, who has the kind of personality that should be funny, but this isn't funny. The man then gets arrested. So far, the episode has not been great, the character introductions were not entertaining.

In the Vatican, the nun arrives at her new job. The prisoner woman is facing trouble in jail, and the swastika woman comes to her rescue, and she now sees the swastika. She has to decide between that woman's group or having no allies. It turns out that her lawyer has shown up, so she just flips off everyone. The man who got arrested is shown a video that references the Bible, the book of Revelations. The priest shows up and meets with the nun, and he is actually pretty funny. Finally an interesting character! The prisoner woman was alright, but he is the first good one. He shares that his job used to be preventing people from becoming saints, but that position had been removed, which resulted in many new saints, so it was reinstated. The prisoner woman meets with her lawyer, and the lawyer tells her to stop covering for her son, who obviously committed the crime. The lawyer advises her not to get one anyone's bad side, but it is a bit late for that.

The man who got arrested is being interrogated, and they tell him that they found his DNA in Moscow. The lawyer has a sort of funny line asking if he has a twin. The priest is talking to the nun, and he is really interesting, being pretty funny. He turns her down, and then she comes back and splashes water in his face. She confronts him, and it makes her a really likeable character. He then gives her the job, but she doesn't want to work for him. This was definitely the best scene so far. The friend of the arrested man proves that he was in England on a specific date, and the scene is really funny. The swastika woman gives the librarian prisoner advice, and the scene is also really funny. The show is definitely getting better now. The arrested man discovers that his wife, who has been missing for seven years, has been found.

Jamie, the arrested man, demands to know more about his wife, but he is simply let go. In prison, the news story is interrupted, a comet is heading toward Earth. The nun considers the job offer, and is unsure of what to do. The news travels all over the world fast. The president, on the television, asks everyone to remain calm, but they do not, which is mildly entertaining. Jamie discovers that he was adopted, so there is a chance that he has an identical twin.

In Italy, everyone is praying, and in prison everyone is behaving insanely. The priest finds the nun, and asks her if she is in our out. She says "in". The prisoners escape. Jamie finds the detective, and she gives him all her information she has on the case, so he can find his wife. Two people rescue the librarian, and swastika woman insists on going with her, handcuffing them together.

I thought that this was an alright episode. The episode started out terrible, but the second half of the episode was good. I wish that the announcement about the comet had come sooner, as most of the fun happened after this.
