Premiere week continued on and similar to Thursday, it was a mixed bag. CBS easily destroyed the competition with an amazing performance by the series premiere of MacGyver (1.7). It was a whopping six tenths above last year's The Amazing Race (1.1), and one of the biggest Friday premieres in recent memory even beating out last year's surprisingly strong performance from Dr. Ken (1.5). MacGyver is going to have a hard time not to get renewed as only a SHIELD-esque crash will keep it from one. The rest of CBS also dominated as Hawaii Five-0 (1.3) was three tenths above last season's premiere and Blue Bloods (1.3) capped off a truly amazing night steady with last year's premiere.
The rest of the networks couldn't even come close to the old-skewing network, but FOX came in second with the premiere of Hell's Kitchen (1.1) which was steady with last January's season premiere leading into the series premiere of The Exorcist (1.0). It really can't be called a great result, but it still didn't exactly tank, for now it's an okay result, but it has virtually no room to fall before it's on the chopping block.
Once a powerful night, ABC Friday sauntered in third place after having an awful night. Last Man Standing (1.1) started it off actually steady with last year's premiere. While that's obviously not a bad result, last year saw it grow from there to a steady stream of 1.2s and 1.3s. It'll be hard-pressed to repeat that phenomenon, but it's usually a steady show, so it's not in any imminent danger. The real disaster came with Dr. Ken (0.9) which shed nearly 40% from last year's impressive 1.5 and could only tie it's series low. Ken has very little room to drop before it becomes a problem, so it'll have to steady itself if it wants that third season. Things got even worse as Shark Tank (1.1) crashed on premiere night. This goes five tenths below last season's 1.6 premiere which had just a repeat of The Muppets (0.8) as a lead-in and tied it's series low. This is a very alarming result for Tank, while not in any real danger yet, it's very disappointing to see a once Friday powerhouse go this low. Afterwards, 20/20 (0.7) added on to the pile of disappointing results with a rough outing.
NBC had repeats of their Thursday comedies with Superstore (0.6) and The Good Place (0.6) leading into a new season of Dateline (0.8/1.1) which grew significantly at the hour.
The CW had Masters of Illusion (0.3) followed by a repeat of itself (0.3) and a repeat of Penn and Teller: Fool Us (0.3).
