Cable Renew/Cancel - Freeform, TNT & Syfy: Resident Alien is an Out-of-this-World Hit

It's been nearly six months since my last Renew/Cancel for Freeform, TNT and Syfy, and they've been a bit busy in those months. Keep reading for my predictions for a slew of cable originals including Resident Alien, Single Drunk Female and Snowpiercer!

Motherland: Fort Salem Renewed for Final Season

Freeform isn't ready to say goodbye to Motherland: Fort Salem, but soon they will be. The supernatural drama has been renewed, though its third season will be its last. This news comes despite modest ratings for the show, which has averaged just a 0.06 in the live-plus-same-day 18-49 demographic in its second season. That's a marked 43% decline from season one, when it was already one of the lower-rated shows on Freeform's lineup. However, the show has a dedicated and vocal fanbase and performs well on streaming platforms including Hulu. The second season finale of the series airs tomorrow night. Taylor Hickson, Amalia Holm, Demetria McKinney, Jessica Sutton, Ashley Nicole Williams and Lyne Renée star in the series, which is executive produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. This news also comes just days after the cancellation of Freeform comedy Everything's Gonna Be Okay.

Cruel Summer Renewed by Freeform

Freeform's summer ratings haven't been too cruel, and they're bringing back their newest drama for another season. The series premiered April 20 and has been one of the network's top ratings performers since then, averaging 0.10 in the 18-49 demo thus far. While that isn't a terribly high rating overall, Freeform's ratings have taken a significant downturn in recent years, and these ratings surpass all of their other shows besides their signature series, Grownish. Cruel Summer is available on Hulu, where it seems to do extremely well. It boasts a Parrot Analytics audience demand figure of 18.1, far higher than the average series on television. Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, From Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, and Blake Lee star in the series. A creative future on the series has not yet been determined, with the same cast members and characters returning to continue the story being considered a possibility, while the show may also become an anthology with a new story and new characters and actors. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
