Jeopardy! Masters: At the time of writing this, we only have ratings for the first week of Jeopardy! Masters, despite it airing two weeks so far, and having just one episode left. Still, the ratings we do have point a fairly clear picture: it's still a solid performer, with roughly the same ratings as last season. It's mostly been stable around 0.26, but it did have a random 0.37, which is the highest rating it's achieved since 2024. Season three was a relative ratings disappointment, down 37% from season two, so currently being up a notch year-to-year is very respectable, especially considering that it's airing significantly later in the season than ever before, as it had always aired in May in previous years. It's still slightly weaker than Celebrity Jeopardy, which had a rebound of its own this season, but it's solid filler for ABC in the summer, when they have little else to air. Its streaming performance is atrocious, but this is the sort of show that lives based on its linear performance, with a solid appeal to casual viewers and those who are already watching Jeopardy in the 7 PM hour. I see little reason to expect ABC to discontinue this annual tradition. It's a likely renewal.
Beat Shazam: While its ratings are still more than acceptable, I am a bit concerned about Beat Shazam as the season has gone on. As I discussed earlier, it's coming off a long hiatus, and it returned very late in the season. Despite its very late premiere, Fox has still managed to air its entire twelve-episode season with double-pumped airings on Monday nights in addition to its Tuesday night airings, culminating in its finale tonight, which is also its 100th episode. Fox didn't need to air its entire eighth season in just a month's time, given that they haven't aired anything new on Thursday nights all summer. That makes this feel all the more like a late-season burn-off of a show they've moved on from. Its streaming performance has also been very weak this season, not charting the last few weeks despite ample opportunity to do so. While none are massive streaming players, nearly every Fox summer series managed to chart at least once a week this season. Only Running Wild has performed worse this year on streaming among Fox's summer offerings. If Fox was already on the fence about bringing the show back, nothing it did on streaming would push them towards a renewal decision, though I doubt that has much impact on the show's ultimate fate. I've gone back and forth on what I should predict here, but my gut is telling me that Fox's scheduling is indicative of a desire to move on, and that Beat Shazam will disappear after a nice eight-season, 100-episode run. It leans cancellation.
Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro: Another show I've struggled with is Dancing with the Stars spinoff The Next Pro. The series averaged 0.30 this season, which is solid for a summer series (or really, any series in this day and age). However, it wasn't always smooth sailing. The series dropped as low as 0.21, and has undeniably experienced declines in its streaming performance. In an interview just released, DWTS EP Conrad Green expressed a desire to do another season of the show, but he didn't sound all that confident that it would be happening, stating that he'd "certainly consider doing it again, if someone were to discuss it with the network." It's not rare for reality shows to end their seasons without having official word on whether they're returning, but the show is definitely in limbo, and ABC has plenty of reason to leave it a one-off experiment. Their summer game shows performed roughly the same or better this season despite no ties to a huge hit like DWTS, and are likely quite a bit cheaper. Another season also risks overexposure of the valuable Dancing with the Stars brand. As we know, the show began declining back when it was airing two seasons a year, and only rebounded once it moved to once-yearly airings, allowing it to feel like an event. While the two series don't utilize the exact same format, a DWTS series airing in the months before the main series airs does risk some fatigue, and the ratings ABC received for this series are not worth risking their golden goose. I wouldn't be shocked to see it return, but I don't think it's a good idea, and I don't know if ABC does, either. It still leans cancellation.
