Kung Fu Canceled After Three Seasons

The CW has given the chop to Kung Fu, canceling the show after three seasons. The martial arts drama was a middling performer for The CW, with only a 0.07 season average, placing it towards the bottom of The CW's scripted lineup. With so few shows surviving to next season on The CW, Kung Fu's low ratings and lack of a streaming presence made it one of the easier cuts for the network to make as it prepares to slash its current programing slate. Olivia Liang, Kheng Hua Tan, Eddie Liu, Shannon Dang and Yvonne Chapman starred in the series over its 39-episode run. The series finale aired March 8. Kung Fu and Stargirl Renewed by The CW

The CW is continuing its long-standing, rarely-abandoned tradition of renewing everything. Freshman drama Kung Fu has scored a second season on the network after just four episodes. The series, a reboot of the 1970s series of the same name, has been a solid performer so far, rating as their #5 series this season-to-date and improving on Riverdale's ratings in the Wednesday 8 PM slot. In addition to the Kung Fu pickup, summer series Stargirl, which was a DC Universe series before moving full-time to The CW, has secured a third season. The show is set to return in August and stars Brec Bassinger, Luke Wilson, Meg DeLacy and Yvette Monreal.

Kung Fu Ordered to Series

The CW has given a series order to Kung Fu, the reboot of the 1970s series of the same name. In it, a quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. When she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice, all while searching for the assassin who killed her mentor and is now targeting her.  Olivia Liang, Tzi Ma, Kheng Hua Tua, Gavin Stenhouse and Gwendoline Yao star will in the series, among others.
