Who Do You Think You Are?
The Great American Baking Show: While not necessarily a strong player, this show is always reliably back on ABC's schedule each year, even after the #MeToo controversy during season three. With a 0.5 for its premiere, I highly doubt that this show is a priority for ABC, but it helps them fill a hole on the Thursday schedule during a quiet part of the year, and it likely rates higher and brings in more money than repeats would. The cost of the show is also likely very cheap, meaning that there's not much of a reason to think it won't be back for season six next year. It's a LIKELY RENEWAL.
Ellen's Greatest Night of Giveaways: By far the most impressive holiday reality show this season, Ellen's Greatest Night was also one of the shortest-lived. With just three episodes to its name for season one, the show didn't have much time to drop. However, that doesn't make its big premiere or solid 1.0s for episodes two and three any less impressive. It's pretty obvious that NBC loves Ellen, and he shows are extremely popular, so I see no reason to think that this show won't return next season. Well, aside from one thing: the possibility that it could simply be a one-time holiday event. For now, I'll categorize it as a LIKELY RENEWAL, and not a certain one, even though it's earned a certain renewal label.
Making It: It arguably didn't even earn a second season to begin with, but NBC's crafting competition show may be on its last legs. Its 0.5 average is dismal, considering that it had high-rated shows The Voice and Ellen's Greatest Night of Giveaways as its lead-in for five of the seven days it aired. Its scheduling almost seems to indicate a burnoff, given that its eight-episode season wrapped in just ten days. However, I don't think it's completely dead. Ten o'clock is still not an easy time to air, especially for such a family-friendly show such as this one. At a time of the year that NBC doesn't really have much to air, a 0.5 isn't necessarily the worse they could do, at least if repeats of some of their old Christmas specials are any indication. Its Emmy nomination this year also adds a small bit to its argument for renewal. It still LEANS CANCELLATION, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it back in the future.
