Ratings Analysis: CBS's massive 'Chiefs v. Bills' NFL game (11.37) shed a little less than 4% from the comparative game (11.83) that took place in January 2021 and was the highest-rated broadcast by a longshot. Direct lead-out 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (2.05, +1.64) only retained about 18% of the game but shot up to a series high and outpaced the year-ago 'FBI' (1.98). ABC had a tough time competing with NFL as 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.43, -0.19) and 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.36, -0.19) dropped by two-tenths each. 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.51, +0.02) actually ticked up at 7 while 'The Rookie' (0.32, -0.08) lost eight-hundredths in the 10PM hour. NBC had football-boosted reruns of 'American Auto' (0.77/0.42), but the NFL power died down by the time animated flick 'The Secret Life of Pets' (0.29) aired. A 10PM encore of 'Dateline' (0.35) was able to build from there. Fox went with repeats of 'The Simpsons' (0.18), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.22), more 'Simpsons' (0.29), 'The Great North' (0.22), more 'Bob's' (0.25), and 'Family Guy' (0.26). 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.05, -0.02) and 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.02, -0.03) suffered noticeable declines on the CW.

Finals Update: 'NFL: Chiefs v. Bills' (+2.6), 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1), 'Supermarket Sweep' (+0.1), the 7PM repeat of 'American Auto' (+0.1), 'Dateline NBC' (+0.1), and the 9pm rerun of 'Bob's Burgers' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: On a Sunday night mostly populated by reruns, NBC's telecast of the 'Steelers v. Chiefs' NFL game (7.91) rose by over 60% from the week-ago 'Chargers v. Raiders' matchup (4.85) and beat all competing programs that aired in the 8pm-11pm stretch. A 7pm encore of 'Grand Crew' (0.44) went higher than every one of its first-run episodes and led into 'Football Night in America' (0.80). CBS's '60 Minutes' (1.65, +0.52) improved by five-tenths from the week prior thanks to an 'NFL Overrun' lead-in (10.69) that was triple the size of the one from the previous Sunday (3.36). Repeats of 'The Equalizer' (0.50) and 'SWAT' (0.32) filled out the remainder of the evening. ABC had solid reruns of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.41) and 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.42), but encores of 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.31) and 'The Rookie' (0.18) tapered off from there. Fox had middling reruns of 'The Simpsons' (0.24/0.27), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.21/0.23), 'The Great North' (0.23), and 'Family Guy' (0.29). The CW's 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.07, +0.03) picked up three-hundredths and was followed by the season premiere of 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.05/0.05). 'Horror Stories' was at less than half of its 2021 debut (0.12/0.10).

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (+2.4) and 'NFL: Steelers v. Chiefs' (+1.9) adjusted up. '60 Minutes' (-0.4), 'Football Night in America' (-4.7), and the repeat of 'Grand Crew' (-1.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 2021 broadcast of Julie Andrews film 'The Sound of Music' (0.37) was roughly 40% below the year-ago showing (0.6) and only a hair above the week-ago 'Celebrity Wheel' (0.36). Even with help from 'NFL Overrun' (5.23) and 'The OT' (2.89), 'The Simpsons' (1.15, -0.02) and 'The Great North' (0.62, -0.01) lost two-hundredths and a hundredth respectively on Fox. In contrast, 'Bob's Burgers' (0.58, +0.02) and 'Family Guy' (0.55, +0.05) gained a couple hundredths apiece. Over on CBS, '60 Minutes' (0.70, -0.68) fell by nearly 50% without direct football assistance. TV movie 'Christmas Takes Flight' (0.34) and a rerun of 'FBI: International' (0.16) dropped dramatically from there. NBC's 'Saints v. Buccaneers' NFL game (4.65) dipped by 7% from last week's 'Bears v. Packers' match-up (5.00). On the CW, 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.05, -0.01) shed a single hundredth and led into an abysmal edition of 'The Black Pack: We Three Kings' (0.02).

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (+1.8), 'The Sound of Music' (+0.1), 'The Simpsons' (+0.1), 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (+0.1), 'NFL: Saints v. Buccaneers' (+1.1), 'Bob's Burgers' (+0.1), and 'Family Guy' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'The OT' (-0.5) and 'Christmas Takes Flight' (-0.1) adjusted down.

A-Christmas-Proposal-7

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.34, +0.05) was able to rise by five-hundredths after setting a new low the week prior. The rest of the alphabet network's lineup was not so lucky, with 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.36, -0.02) and 'The Rookie' (0.28, -0.02) both sinking to series lows. At 7, 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.39, -0.14) took an even bigger hit than 'Wheel' and 'Rookie'. Though it had a slightly higher 'NFL Overrun' (5.03) than it did on December 5th, CBS's '60 Minutes' (1.38, -0.02) was two-hundredths shy of its week-ago installment. In the 9pm hour, TV movie 'A Christmas Proposal' (0.48) retained less than 35% of the '60 Minutes' audience. On NBC, the 'Bears v. Packers' NFL game (5.00) was markedly stronger than the week-ago 'Broncos v. Chiefs' outing (4.65). 'Football Night in America' (1.91) was the second-highest in the 7pm timeslot. Over on Fox, the '70th Miss Universe' pageant (0.57) was over three-tenths below the 69th one from all the way back in 2019 (0.9). The CW's 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.06) was stable, but 'Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown' (0.03) shed half of the 'Temple' rating at 9.

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (+0.9), '60 Minutes' (+0.2), 'A Christmas Proposal' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (+0.1), 'NFL: Bears v. Packers' (+1.0), '70th Miss Universe' (+0.1), and 'Football Night in America' (+0.8) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 12/5/21: West Side Story Special Flops, National Christmas Tree Lighting Modest, NFL and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Dip (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Thanks to the return of 'NFL Overrun' (4.94) on CBS, '60 Minutes' (1.40, +0.82) climbed above the 1.0 threshold once more, gaining eight-tenths on a week-to-week basis. More than a third of that audience evaporated by the time 'The National Christmas Tree Lighting' (0.54) rolled around and virtually no one stayed to watch the 23rd annual 'A Home For the Holidays' (0.33) or the repeat of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.21). On ABC, a 'West Side Story' special (0.22) flopped in the 7pm timeslot and took 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.38, -0.13), 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.29, -0.08), and 'The Rookie' (0.30, -0.03) down with it. 'Wheel' and 'Sweep' were both at new series lows while 'The Rookie' matched its previous low. NBC's 'Broncos v. Chiefs' NFL game (4.65) came in a tenth above the 'Browns v. Raves' game (4.54) from the week prior, and 'Football Night in America' (2.10) was more than a full point higher than last week. Fox had reruns of 'The Simpsons' (0.70/0.39), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.41/0.32), 'The Great North' (0.31), and 'Family Guy' (0.36). On the CW, 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.06, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths. A pair of 'Masters of Illusion' encores (0.06/0.06) that came after maintained that same rating.

Finals Update: CBS's 'NFL Overrun' (+1.3), 'NFL: Broncos v. Chiefs' (+1.0), and the repeat of 'Family Guy' (+0.1) adjusted up. '60 Minutes' (-0.5), 'The National Christmas Tree Lighting' (-0.1), and 'A Home For the Holidays' (-0.1) adjusted down.
