Sunday TV Ratings 1/30/22: Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and Supermarket Sweep End Down, NFC Championship Up from 2021 AFC Championship (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's mammoth 'NFC Championship' (14.20) easily outpaced the 2021 AFC Championship (11.83) and gave 'Next Level Chef' (2.59, +2.13) the boost of a lifetime. On ABC, 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.37, -0.06) and 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.34, -0.02) lost some ground for their season finales. A 7PM edition of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.44, -0.07) also declined, but 10PM drama 'The Rookie' (0.33, +0.01) got back a hundredth. CBS had football-inflated editions of '60 Minutes' (0.91/0.57), 'The Equalizer' (0.32), and 'SWAT' (0.30), but the boost mostly wore off by the time the drama reruns arrived. NBC had meager encores of 'The Wall' (0.15), 'Dateline' (0.23), and 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.20). Despite having a horrific 'March' repeat lead-in (0.01), The CW's 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.05/0.07) improved dramatically from the week prior (0.02/0.02). 

Finals Update: 'NFC Championship' (+4.7), the 8PM '60 Minutes' (+0.1), and 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 1/23/22: NFL Playoffs Down from Comparative 2021 Game, NCIS: Hawaii Solid in Lead-Out Slot, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and Supermarket Sweep Drop After Week Off (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's massive 'Chiefs v. Bills' NFL game (11.37) shed a little less than 4% from the comparative game (11.83) that took place in January 2021 and was the highest-rated broadcast by a longshot. Direct lead-out 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (2.05, +1.64) only retained about 18% of the game but shot up to a series high and outpaced the year-ago 'FBI' (1.98). ABC had a tough time competing with NFL as 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.43, -0.19) and 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.36, -0.19) dropped by two-tenths each. 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.51, +0.02) actually ticked up at 7 while 'The Rookie' (0.32, -0.08) lost eight-hundredths in the 10PM hour. NBC had football-boosted reruns of 'American Auto' (0.77/0.42), but the NFL power died down by the time animated flick 'The Secret Life of Pets' (0.29) aired. A 10PM encore of 'Dateline' (0.35) was able to build from there. Fox went with repeats of 'The Simpsons' (0.18), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.22), more 'Simpsons' (0.29), 'The Great North' (0.22), more 'Bob's' (0.25), and 'Family Guy' (0.26). 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.05, -0.02) and 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.02, -0.03) suffered noticeable declines on the CW.

Sunday TV Ratings 1/9/22: Pivoting Has Weak Start Behind Decent Call Me Kat Return, The Equalizer, Supermarket Sweep and The Rookie All See Gains (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's 'Call Me Kat' (1.22) began its second season the same way as its first, airing on a Sunday night behind 'NFL Overrun' (4.61) and 'The OT' (3.05). 'Kat' was down a light 11% from its year-ago premiere (1.37), but its 'OT' lead-in was about 16% higher than it was in 2021 (2.62). While 'Kat' seemed fairly healthy on arrival, viewers quickly fled when new sitcom 'Pivoting' (0.60) debuted at 8:30. The freshman comedy lost more than 50% of the 'Kat' rating and was below every football-boosted 'Great North' episode from fall 2021. In the 9PM hour, 'Bob's Burgers' (0.50, -0.08) and 'Family Guy' (0.48, -0.07) were both down close to a tenth from their last installments. With the help of their own 'NFL Overrun' (3.36), '60 Minutes' (1.13, +0.58), 'The Equalizer' (0.68, +0.14) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.52, +0.05) rose by varying degrees on CBS. The boost faded away by 10PM as drama 'SWAT' (0.42) was unable to rise and could only match what it garnered a week prior. ABC had no football help in sight but that didn't stop 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.62, +0.11), 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.55, +0.14), and 'The Rookie' (0.40, +0.08) from surging to new season highs. Despite the impressive gains from 8-11, 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.49, -0.07) shed seven-hundredths in the 7PM timeslot. NBC's 'Chargers v. Raiders' NFL game (4.85) dipped by 3% from the week-ago 'Vikings v. Packers' match-up (5.00). At 7, 'Football Night in America' (1.70) lost five-tenths from its previous outing. 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.04, -0.01) ticked down on the CW and was followed by a rerun of 'Superman & Lois' (0.02).

Sunday TV Ratings 1/2/22: Next Level Chef Starts Solidly, SWAT Down in New Timeslot, Supermarket Sweep and The Equalizer Tick Up (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Placed behind 'NFL Overrun' (6.80) and 'The OT' (4.00), Fox's latest Gordon Ramsay series 'Next Level Chef' (1.55) posted a strong rating at 8PM in preparation for its move to Wednesday nights. Though this bested last year's 'Call Me Kat' preview (1.37) and every post-NFL 'Simpsons' from the fall, 'Chef' also had a stronger football lead-in than those programs. There's no telling if 'Next Level Chef' will perform well in its proper timeslot but at least it was sampled nicely  out the gate. In the 9PM hour, 'The Simpsons' (0.68) and 'The Great North' (0.42) went higher than most of their non-NFL episodes from fall 2021 but were well below their post-football installments. Over on ABC, 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.56, +0.17) and 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.51, +0.15) made sizable gains in the new year while 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.41, +0.07), and 'The Rookie' (0.32, +0.04) were able to bounce back a bit from their depressed, December ratings. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.55, -0.88) crashed without NFL assistance, but 'The Equalizer' (0.54, +0.09) returned a tenth above its disappointing fall finale. In the back-half of the evening, 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.47, -0.03) and the first Sunday episode of 'SWAT' (0.42, -0.12) lost some ground, with the latter only managing to tie its Friday low. NBC started the year strong with 'Football Night in America' (2.20) and a massive 'Vikings v. Packers' NFL game (5.00). The CW had feeble reruns of 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.04) and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.06).

Sunday TV Ratings 12/12/21: A Christmas Proposal and Miss Universe Draw Decent Interest, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Slips, NFL Sunday Night Football Rises (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.34, +0.05) was able to rise by five-hundredths after setting a new low the week prior. The rest of the alphabet network's lineup was not so lucky, with 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.36, -0.02) and 'The Rookie' (0.28, -0.02) both sinking to series lows. At 7, 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.39, -0.14) took an even bigger hit than 'Wheel' and 'Rookie'. Though it had a slightly higher 'NFL Overrun' (5.03) than it did on December 5th, CBS's '60 Minutes' (1.38, -0.02) was two-hundredths shy of its week-ago installment. In the 9pm hour, TV movie 'A Christmas Proposal' (0.48) retained less than 35% of the '60 Minutes' audience. On NBC, the 'Bears v. Packers' NFL game (5.00) was markedly stronger than the week-ago 'Broncos v. Chiefs' outing (4.65). 'Football Night in America' (1.91) was the second-highest in the 7pm timeslot. Over on Fox, the '70th Miss Universe' pageant (0.57) was over three-tenths below the 69th one from all the way back in 2019 (0.9). The CW's 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.06) was stable, but 'Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown' (0.03) shed half of the 'Temple' rating at 9.
