People of Earth Canceled by TBS, Despite Prior Renewal

In a cruel twist of fate, People of Earth won't be back for season three, after all. Though the show was  renewed for season three back in September 2017, TBS has decided to reverse their decision and cancel the show, which starred Wyatt Cenac and Ana Gasteyer. Series creator David Jenkins announced the news with this tweet:

Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all. https://t.co/QViyRi0RNF

 It's a surprising move rarely seen on television, made even more surprising considering that the series was a solid ratings performer for the comedy-centric cable network and that the third season of the series was already written. The second season of the series averaged a 0.3, down just 8% from the inaugural season. You can see the show's full season two ratings below:

The Guest Book, People of Earth, and Wrecked all Renewed by TBS

TBS has unsurprisingly renewed three of its comedy series. Freshman the Guest Book and sophomores People of Earth and Wrecked will all be returning for additional seasons next year. The Guest Book, created by Raising Hope's Greg Garcia, is an anthological comedy that features Garret Dillahunt in a recurring role and has seen famous faces such as Jenna Fisher, Michaela Watkins, and Jaime Pressly as guest stars. Wrecked stars Zach Cregger and Rhys Darby as people stranded on an island after an airplane crash, and is a comedic spoof of Lost. People of Earth stars Wyatt Cenac and Ana Gasteyer, and focuses on a support group for survivors of alien encounters. All have done solidly, with the Guest Book frequently one of the highest-rated Thursday cable telecasts.
