FOX Reboots Ghosted, Whoopi Goldberg to Assume the Lead She Played in Ghost

Ghostly encounters seem to be the rage in 2023.  Ghosts is often CBS' number one comedy, and ABC spritzed a little creativity and shook up its boiler plate comedy formula with Not Dead Yet.  FOX has decided to join the trend and is reviving its failed 2017-18 comedy Ghosted for the upcoming season.  Craig Robinson has committed to reprising his role as Leroy Wright, but Adam Scott has limited availability to return as Max Jennifer.  FOX has devised refreshing the sitcom by implementing heralded comedienne Whoopi Goldberg to reprise her 1990 Ghost Role as Oda Mae Brown.  This bold move perhaps could reinvigorate the failed premise which was axed in 2018.

Ghosted Canceled by FOX

After being mysteriously benched following a mediocre fall run and then airing in the summer, FOX has canceled freshman comedy Ghosted after a single season. The series starred Adam Scott and Craig Robinson. This cancelation is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Why Is Brooklyn Nine-Nine A Likely Renewal?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine really did not take its recent Tuesday days kindly, but that could have to do with the incompatible matching. While it doesn’t seem like it’ll meet advertiser’s expectations for the season, an exception will likely be made for a show that is retaining from The Simpsons in the spring. I wouldn’t be surprised with the 6th season being 18-22 episodes, but held for midseason. Best to let something else enjoy the football halo in the fall. With many shows having their casts under 6-season contracts, it shouldn’t be tough to renew it. Additionally, this could spell bad news for previous time slot occupant, Ghosted, which has been pushed down one column.

On The Mick and LA to Vegas

Neither LA to Vegas nor The Mick are doing all that great, and FOX may think they can do better with shows like The Orville or The Gifted there next season. I can’t imagine either of them being too expensive though should they decide to give them another shot. Right now, I’m giving the edge to LA to Vegas since it is closer to meeting advertisers’ expectations than The Mick, though it is still not too close to them. Plus, The Mick received a huge marketing push and hasn’t capitalized all that much.

Recent episodes of The Mick have been small successes all things considered, though. If in upcoming weeks we see LA to Vegas stuck at 0.6s and Mick up to 0.8s, I may have to change my mind. In general though, FOX comedy is tough to predict as many are of similar strength and ratings.

What Went Wrong With Ghosted?
I previously had Ghosted in the Certain Renewal column. Now, I'm not as sure. Ghosted has no place to air, and instead low-rated Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be airing in its Sunday at 8:30 time slot in the spring.

Ghosted could be a good fit behind Lethal Weapon, and if it lands Tuesdays at 9 this could simply be a test to make sure a 2nd season renewal would be a decent idea. But the fact that it doesn't even have a time slot worries me.

Does Brooklyn Nine-Nine Have Hope?
This looks to be a last-ditch effort on FOX's part to get Brooklyn Nine-Nine to go out decently. It's one of the lowest-rated shows on the Big 4 broadcast networks, and FOX is giving it their best comedy time slot.

FOX Gives Ghosted 6 More Episodes

Fox has recently extended the episode order of Sunday's new comedy Ghosted by six episodes, for a total of a 16-episode first season. We're still predicting a renewal for the show.
