NBC Renew/Cancel 2024-25 Wrap-Up: Final Thoughts on Grosse Pointe Garden Society, The Hunting Party, Found, Brilliant Minds & More

With the cancellation of Grosse Pointe Garden Society last week, all of NBC's shows have now had their fates announced, which means it's time for much-delayed wrap-up of the 2024-25 NBC season! Keep reading for my look at what went right, and what went wrong, as I a attempted to predict NBC this season! 

Grosse Pointe Garden Society Canceled by NBC

Grosse Pointe Garden Society has wilted. The serialized drama about members of a garden club in the Detroit suburbs who cover up a murder has been canceled after a single low-rated season. This news comes just days before cast contracts were set to expire, and almost two months after NBC announced the fates of most of their other series. It joins Suits LA, Found, Night Court, Lopez vs Lopez, and The Irrational in the scrap pile this season, as NBC attempts to rebound from a historically awful season that saw every one of its four scripted dramas rating far below average. Grosse Pointe stood out even among them, with just a 0.12 average that made it the lowest-rated series on the Big Four broadcast networks. It debuted on Sunday nights in the 10 PM slot, but NBC tweaked its scheduling just weeks into the season, moving it to the open hour ons Friday at 8 PM. It remained low-rated there, dooming its already minuscule renewal chances. The series will not be moving to Peacock, either, with its streaming performance not being strong enough to save it there. Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport and Nancy Travis starred in the series. With this decision, NBC has made its final decision regarding the 2024-25 regular season. Friday TV Ratings 5/16/25: Shark Tank Rises for Mark Cuban’s Final Episode, SWAT Slightly Rebounds but Stays Low for Series Finale, Real Time with Bill Maher Hits Series Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On the night of Mark Cuban's final episode, ABC's Shark Tank (0.28, +0.03) climbed higher, but 20/20 (0.17) dropped noticeably from there. On NBC, Grosse Pointe Garden Society (0.15, +0.03) was up for its finale. CBS's SWAT (0.19, +0.04) was also up for its series finale, but the drama fell behind The Greatest @Home Videos (0.24). Fox was up from last week with UFL (0.12). Encores of Penn & Teller (0.04) and Masters of Illusion (0.03/0.03) aired on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale. 

Friday TV Ratings 5/9/25: SWAT and Hollywood Squares Collapse to New Lows, Shark Tank and Grosse Pointe Garden Society Also Decline, Pope Leo XIV Special Solid [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Hollywood Squares (0.13, -0.05) and SWAT (0.15, -0.09) collapsed on CBS, and a 10 p.m. rerun of Fire Country (0.12) almost matched the Squares original in the key demographic. Shark Tank (0.25, -0.02) also dropped on ABC. Tank was followed by a special about Pope Leo XIV (0.24) and Bad Romance (0.15). Grosse Pointe (0.12, -0.02) slipped on NBC, but Dateline (0.19, 0.00) tied its week-ago installment. Fox's UFL broadcast (0.09) did not impress. The CW aired repeats of Penn & Teller (0.05) and Masters of Illusion (0.04/0.03). Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Friday TV Ratings 5/2/25: Hollywood Squares Drops to New Low in Time Slot Debut, Grosse Pointe Garden Society Hits Friday High, Shark Tank and SWAT Slip [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Hollywood Squares (0.18) dropped from its last installment (0.21) in its CBS return and appeared to negatively affect SWAT (0.24, -0.06). Grosse Pointe Garden Society (0.14, +0.04) and Dateline (0.19, +0.04) bounced back on NBC. Shark Tank (0.27, -0.05) and 20/20 (0.23, -0.10) both dropped on ABC, with 20/20 losing a full tenth. UFL (0.12) improved a bit from last week on Fox. The CW went with reruns of Penn & Teller (0.04) and Masters of Illusion (0.03/0.02). Key: (R) = repeat.
