Wednesday TV Ratings 4/16/25: Abbott Elementary Drops for Finale, Survivor Jumps to Season High, The Masked Singer and The Floor Also Climb, Chicago Med Hits Series Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Class was dismissed on ABC, as Abbott Elementary (0.30, -0.07) closed out its fourth season on Wednesday night with a rather steep decline. The Conners (0.26, -0.04) also lost some ground at eight, although not as much as Abbott. Later in the night, Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.25, 0.00) held even, and What Would You Do? (0.14, +0.03) rose for its own finale. CBS's Survivor (0.80, +0.12) jumped to a new season high, but The Amazing Race (0.30, -0.05) went in the opposite direction. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.30, -0.12) and Fire (0.33, -0.11) collapsed, while PD (0.30, -0.04) had a more mild decline. The Masked Singer (0.42, +0.11) soared on Fox, and The Floor (0.34, +0.05) also climbed higher. On series premiere night, CW drama Sherlock & Daughter (0.03) made a soft landing, but it at least fully retained its Wild Cards lead-in (0.03, -0.01). Key: (F) = finale.

The Conners Renewed for Seventh and Final Season

It's time to say farewell to the Conners. ABC has renewed the series, a continuation/spinoff of Roseanne, for a seventh and final season. The series first made it onto the airwaves after the Roseanne revival was canceled following controversial tweets by its titular star, with the series being repurposed as The Conners and starring the remaining members of the cast. The revamped series was a ratings success, and rated among ABC's top scripted series for much of its run. Ratings declined this season, as part of a dilapidated Wednesday comedy block that consisted of just three comedies, though its 0.37 average was still enough for it to be ABC's #4 scripted series of the season. The seventh and final season is expected to run for just six episodes, meaning less than ten episodes remain in the show's run. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Grandson star in the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

The Conners Renewed for Season 6

ABC's top-rated show will be back next season, as The Conners has been renewed for a sixth season. This Roseanne continuation series has long been a valuable part of a diminishing ABC comedy department, but experienced a particularly strong season this year, holding fully steady from last season with a 0.50 season average in the 18-49 ratings demographic. The show took advantage of its new time slot, having been moved to 8 PM this year after two seasons on Wednesdays at 9. Its performance in the slot was barely below The Goldbergs' performance there in the 2021-22 TV season, despite a 20% drop in the broadcast league average. The show is the last from an era of family sitcom domination on ABC, following the cancellation of The Goldbergs this season. John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Jay R. Ferguson star in the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

The Conners Renewed for Fifth Season by ABC

The Conners will get to keep on trucking, as the family comedy has been renewed for a fifth season by ABC. While the show saw a 20% drop in the ratings and has hit numerous new series lows this season, it remains ABC's #3 comedy with a 0.51 average in the 18-49 demographic, trailing only Abbott Elementary and The Goldbergs. The Conners stars John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman and Jay R. Ferguson. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

The Conners Renewed for Season Four

Roseanne spin-off The Conners will return for a fourth season on ABC in the 2021-22 TV season. The series was the #1 broadcast comedy series in its second season, but its third season saw a large 40% decline that saw it drop to #5 among ABC's scripted series and #8 among all broadcast comedies as it moved from the 8 PM slot on Tuesdays to the 9 PM slot on Wednesdays. Despite a massive slide in live+same-day viewers, delayed viewing for the show remained strong, enough for ABC be able to make a deal with its production company to keep it on their lineup. John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and Lecy Goranson star as members of the titular family, who first returned to television in 2018 on the hit Roseanne revival before that series was canceled due to controversial remarks by star Roseanne Barr. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
