Sunday TV Ratings 5/19/24: American Idol Ticks Up for Katy Perry’s Final Episode, The Simpsons Ends on New Series Low, CSI: Vegas Hits Season High for Series Finale [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: The American Idol season finale (0.65, +0.02) topped the night on ABC, with the singing-competition series rising for Katy Perry's final episode. However, America's Funniest Home Videos (0.50, -0.06) dropped for its own finale in the 7 p.m. slot. On Fox, The Simpsons (0.14, -0.02) fell to a new series low on finale night, but Krapopolis (0.14, +0.02) and The Great North (0.16, +0.04) were actually up for their respective season closers. In the 9:30 slot, Bob's Burgers (0.18, -0.11) aired an original episode for the first time in over two months, one that doubled as its season finale. It was a new series low for Bob's, but it still outpaced the other three despite taking such a long hiatus. 60 Minutes (0.55, +0.12), The Equalizer (0.43, +0.07), Tracker (0.46, +0.04), and CSI: Vegas (0.35, +0.10) were all up for their CBS finales. For Vegas, this served as a new season high for the drama's final ever episode. NBC's showing of 2018 film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (0.12) did not move the needle in a significant way and was beaten by a 10 p.m. Dateline rerun (0.13). 2009 film The Proposal (0.07) was a hundredth lower than the week-ago Mamma Mia! on the CW.

Sunday TV Ratings 5/12/24: TIME100 and American Ninja Warrior Specials Weak, American Idol Rebounds, The Simpsons and Krapopolis Slide [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: ABC's TIME100 special (0.24) proved to be a Nielsen ratings dud, retaining less than 40% of its soaring American Idol lead-in (0.63, +0.12). In the 7 p.m. time slot, America's Funniest Home Videos (0.56, +0.12) grew by the same amount as Idol and remained a notch above CBS's 60 Minutes (0.43, +0.07). On the drama front, The Equalizer (0.36, +0.01) and CSI: Vegas (0.25, +0.01) perked up, while Tracker (0.42, -0.01) ticked down. On Fox, The Simpsons (0.16, -0.10), Krapopolis (0.12, -0.08), and The Great North (0.12, -0.05) all collapsed. Grimsburg (0.09, -0.04) was also down considerably for its season finale. On NBC, American Ninja Warrior: Women's Championship (0.20) was modest at best. 2008 film Mamma Mia! managed a 0.08 rating on the CW, a minor improvement over last week's Walk the Line (0.06).

Sunday TV Ratings 5/5/24: The Simpsons, Krapopolis and The Great North Rise, American Idol Drops but Leads, CSI: Vegas Hits Season Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On Fox, The Simpsons (0.26, +0.01) and Grimsburg (0.13, +0.01) each picked up a hundredth, while Krapopolis (0.20, +0.09) and The Great North (0.17, +0.06) had more pronounced gains. ABC's American Idol (0.51, -0.13) dropped but remained in the lead. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.44, -0.13) also slipped. CSI: Vegas (0.24, -0.08) crashed to a new season low on CBS, but 60 Minutes (0.36, -0.03) and Tracker (0.43, -0.02) dealt with much smaller declines. Amidst the slippage, The Equalizer (0.35, +0.01) actually inched up. NBC aired its usual trio of reruns (0.14/0.13/0.15), while the CW aired 2005 film Walk the Line (0.06).

Sunday TV Ratings 4/28/24: Michael Strahan/Jon Bon Jovi Special Decent, American Idol Hits Season High, The Equalizer Hits New Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Though ABC's Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi special (0.29) retained less than half of its American Idol lead-in (0.64, +0.15), it was a notch above last week's What Would You Do? finale (0.23). America's Funniest Home Videos (0.57, +0.06) jumped in the 7 p.m. slot. On CBS, 60 Minutes (0.39, -0.02) and The Equalizer (0.34, -0.04) slipped, but Tracker (0.45, +0.03) and CSI: Vegas (0.32, +0.05) grew. Fox's Krapopolis (0.11, -0.09) did not have an original Simpsons lead-in and plummeted as a result. The Great North (0.11, -0.10) lost a full tenth, while Grimsburg (0.12, -0.03) had a more mild decline. NBC went with reruns of Weakest Link (0.18), The Voice (0.12), and Dateline (0.18). The CW aired Adam Sandler film The Longest Yard (0.05).

Sunday TV Ratings 4/21/24: The Great North and The Simpsons Jump, The Equalizer and Tracker Slide, America’s Funniest Home Videos Leads (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's struggling cartoon lineup improved a good bit as The Simpsons (0.25, +0.05), Krapopolis (0.20, +0.05), and The Great North (0.21, +0.05) were all up by half a tenth from their last originals. Grimsburg (0.15, +0.03) was also up at 9:30 but not nearly as much as the others. Over on CBS, 60 Minutes (0.41, -0.45), The Equalizer (0.38, -0.25), and Tracker (0.42, -0.14) all declined significantly. CSI: Vegas (0.27, -0.06) also dropped but less than the others. ABC's America's Funniest Home Videos (0.51, -0.07) slipped but was the highest-rated program of the night. American Idol (0.49, +0.01) and What Would You Do? (0.23, +0.05) improved, with the latter pulling off some much-needed growth for its season finale. NBC aired an assortment of reruns (0.08/0.11/0.11), while The CW went with the film Point Break (0.07).
