Preliminary Analysis: Fox began the new year with an odd mismatch of live-action and animated comedies. The series premiere of 'Call Me Kat' (1.3) received the direct post-NFL timeslot and got off to a fairly strong start. Despite 'NFL Overrun' (3.3) and 'The OT' (1.9) underwhelming, 'Kat' retained nearly 70% of its football lead-in. While it's hard to imagine that 'Kat' will take more than half of this audience to its Thursday evening home, the sitcom was sampled rather nicely. But the good news stopped there for Fox as the premiere of animated series 'The Great North' (0.6) completely tanked, shedding well over half of its lead-in. 'Great North' won't return until February 14th but this premiere probably doesn't gives Fox much confidence for its future. A special edition of 'Simpsons' (0.5) performed poorly in the 9pm hour, as did the final season premiere of 'Last Man Standing' (0.5) at 9:30. 'Last Man' was five-tenths below 2020's start and an alarming 72% behind its fall 2018 premiere.
NBC remained the Sunday leader with 'Football Night in America' (1.5/3.4) and the 'WA v. Eagles' NFL game (3.8). ABC was steady with 'AFV' (0.6) and the 'Supermarket Sweep' finale (0.5) but 'Millionaire' (0.4) picked up a tenth at 9. The alphabet network closed out the night with the season premiere of 'The Rookie' (0.5), the drama built from its lead-in but was two-tenths behind last season's start. '60 Minutes' (0.9) gained three-tenths on CBS with the help of 'NFL Overrun' (2.3). That was no help for 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.5) which inched down from its previous outing. 'New Orleans' (0.4) held even at 10. The CW's 'The Outpost' (0.1) gained a tenth while leading out of a 'Penn & Teller' repeat (0.1).
Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' on Fox (+2.7), 'The OT' (+0.7), 'Call Me Kat' (+0.1), 'The Great North' (+0.1), 'The Simpsons' (+0.1), 'NFL Overrun' on CBS (+1.1), '60 Minutes' (+0.3), 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (+0.1), 'NCIS: New Orleans' (+0.1), 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (+0.1), and 'NFL: Washington v. Eagles' (+0.8) adjusted up.
