Finally Back Home Season 1 Episode 3: The Makeup Artist (Writer’s Pick)

[JOSH and ANDREW walk into the doctors’ office.]

RECEPTIONIST
As I told you already, you’re too old to see a doctor here.

ANDREW
I know Doris, we work here.

RECEPTIONIST
How did you know my name is Doris?

ANDREW
From all the times you’ve answered the phone with “Doctor Whiskers’ office, this is Doris”.

JOSH
Also about that, I saw a cat back there the other day.

DORIS
Yeah that confuses a lot of people. Doctor Whiskers is not a cat. Doctor Whiskers just likes brining James to work every now and then.

JOSH
So I guess we’ll start now. Hopefully we don’t scare any kids this time.

DORIS
Oh that reminds me, your makeup artist will be here shortly.

ANDREW
Josh did you order a makeup artist?

JOSH
No. This must be some mistake.

DORIS
Nobody told you? To celebrate Black History Month we’re going to—

ANDREW
No.

DORIS
You didn’t even let me finish!

JOSH
He didn’t have to. That’s disgusting.

DORIS
Putting up educational posters with facts is disgusting now? Racist.

ANDREW
I don’t think we’re on the same page here.

DORIS
Yeah so anyways the makeup artist is going to make you look like clowns.

JOSH
How does this have any relation to Black History Month?

DORIS
It doesn’t.

JOSH
Ok...why did you tell us about that then?

DORIS
In case Doctor Whiskers gives you a pop quiz.

ANDREW
That can happen?

DORIS
Yeah he gives them all the time.

CUT to FRAN and BRIAN at the mattress store. FRAN is standing outside next to MR. FROG, the mascot.

FRAN
Do you ever get bored, Mr. Frog?

FRAN (after a pause)
What made you decide on a mattress store?

FRAN (after another pause)
Guess you’re not in the talking mood today. I’ll be quiet now.

BOB
Fran, can I see you for a second?

FRAN
Can you do it here? Mr. Frog might need help.

BOB
He can wait. I need you to help your husband out with something.

FRAN
Oh! Is he alright?

BOB
Wouldn’t know. He’s asking for you though. Follow me.

FRAN and BOB walk to the back section of the store where BRIAN is working.

BRIAN
So turns out I double-booked.

FRAN
What do you mean?

BRIAN
I’m supposed to be in two places at once. Can you cover for me while I’m gone?

FRAN
I don’t think you’re allowed to do that!

BOB
Also you do know I’m your manager and I can fire you, right?

BRIAN
It won’t take long.

BOB
Go ahead then, but don’t expect to be paid for that time. Not like the store’s busy today, only three people so far. Usually we’re at four by now.

BRIAN
Thanks boss, I’ll be back soon.

BRIAN walks out of the store and into his car.

CUT to JOSH and ANDREW at the doctor’s office.

ANDREW
...and that’s how George Washington became President.

CHILD
That was boring.

JOSH
Why did you ask then?

CHILD
For my school assignment. Got everything you said recorded, thanks!

ANDREW
You sound perfectly fine for someone who claims to have strep throat.

CHILD
Yeah I lied. The paper was due today and I didn’t feel like writing it.

JOSH
I think the less we know the better.

DORIS
Hey, your makeup artist is here!

CHILD [laughing]
You called for a makeup artist? I have to see this.

ANDREW
We didn’t call for one. Excuse us though.

JOSH and ANDREW approach DORIS to greet the makeup artist.

MAKEUP ARTIST
Sorry I’m a little late, got caught up at my new job. Someone needs to put a clock in that place, I forgot to put my watch on today.

ANDREW
Brian?!

BRIAN
Hey, Andrew! How’s the job going?

ANDREW
Well for one you’re here as the makeup artist that we didn’t know about until today.

BRIAN
Just making ends meet.

JOSH
By making people look like clowns?

BRIAN
You’re actually my first clients. Haven’t even practiced once.

JOSH
Sounds promising.

BRIAN
I guess now’s as good a time as ever.

ANDREW
Make it quick. If you have any anesthesia that would be great.

DORIS
Nope. Good luck.

DORIS walks away.

BRIAN takes JOSH and ANDREW to a back area to attempt to make them look like clowns.

JOSH
You are inescapable, aren’t you?

BRIAN
I can’t help it. How was I supposed to know this is the pediatrician’s office you work at?

ANDREW
By asking us.

BRIAN
We agreed to stay out of one another’s business.

JOSH
This would’ve been a valid exception.

BRIAN
My bad. Anyways, my work here is done.

JOSH and ANDREW look at themselves in the mirror and are taken aback by the reflections.

ANDREW
Brian, you did a great job. Or does that mean you did a bad job?

BRIAN
Don’t know. I need to go back to work now, good luck with the kids.

BRIAN exits. JOSH and ANDREW enter the waiting room. The child they were talking to before laughs, while the others scream. DOCTOR WHISKERS lets out a high-pitched shriek.

ANDREW
So we scared the doctor this time too.

JOSH
Hopefully next time is better.

Finally Finale: One More Reunion

SETTING: The home of FRAN, BRIAN, JOSH, and ANDREW. Everyone in the family is present for the third family reunion.

Bidding Farewell to TVRGO’s Finally Franchise: A Retrospective

In March 2019, TVRGO premiered Finally Together. Its first season was a ten-episode story following an extended family that was meeting in person for the first time in years. It was a concept I had for a couple years at that point; in fact, originally the idea was to have a different family in every episode. Instead, I took one family and made three spinoffs about them.

I’ll always have nostalgia for the first season of Finally Together, which is the show that started the franchise. It was a unique take, in that there were so many characters that they were introduced gradually. It actually wasn’t until the end of the fourth episode when everyone in the family arrive at the place of the reunion. Those first few  episodes were meant to show a stark contrast among the family members.

One of my favorite episodes in the entire franchise was the finale of the first season. While I purposefully put in hints that the finale would see them all staying together, I had never planned on that actually being the way it ended. Instead, the family went their separate ways, but everyone displayed character growth. It was by no means a sad ending, but rather one that opened the possibility to explore small groups of characters on their own.

The first spinoff created was Finally Apart. The main character on Finally Apart, Catherine, was one of my favorite characters to write. I saw many storylines in her adult life essentially starting over. Still, I wanted to find a way to get the whole extended family back together; the finale of Finally Apart opened the door for that. It was scheduled in late December for ten consecutive days, almost as if it was taking place in real time. It provided more storylines and more laughs, and led the way to another spinoff, Finally Back Home.

Finally Back Home is a spinoff where I took a few of my favorite characters and brought them into the classic parents-move-in-with-the-kids plot. There are certainly twists along the way, though, straying from the typical formula. It saw the characters going through odd jobs and an adoption. While the situation seemed awkward at first, it turned out to be for the best.

The third and final spinoff, Finally Growing Up, focused on three third-generation members of the family. It ended up having a lot of tie-ins with Finally Apart, which also led to the decision to make the second season of Finally Apart less than the typical ten episodes. In fact, in a sense, Finally Apart and Finally Growing Up were oftentimes part of the very same episode. This is the one that relates closest to television; the kids are finding innovative ways to not only make ends meet, but also have fun along the way. The show took place in a single living room; after all, it was written and posted when everyone in the United States was under stay-at-home orders.

In short, thank you to everyone who read Finally Together, Finally Apart, Finally Back Home, and/or Finally Growing Up. It is truly appreciated. It was fun for me to write, and hopefully fun for you to read as well.

Renewals
Numb Humor Studios’ new hit What In The World! has been renewed for a second season.

TVRGO Website
The TVRGO website (http://www.tvrgo.blogspot.com) will be the exclusive home to the second season of Bar Exam, a spinoff of The Bullpen. There will often be heavy tie-ins on Bar Exam.

Soon, shows that have ended will show up after the ‘Submit Your Show’ card. These shows, as of now, are Finally Together, Finally Apart, Finally Back Home, Finally Growing Up, and Planet Z. This is in addition to the shows already there: miniseries Let’s Get Presidential alongside the pilots of Delta! and Terror In America, which did not become full series.

Shows not about to join them are Bake Your Heart Out, Bar Exam, College, Marietta, Network, Our House, Put Me In, Raymond Island, The Bullpen, The Book of Terri, What In The World!, Whoa Folks I Had Another Dream, and Writer’s Block. All of these shows are either amidst a season or are scheduled to start a new season in the future.

Finally Finale
The Finally franchise is coming to a close. Finally Together and its three spinoffs, Finally Apart, Finally Back Home, and Finally Growing Up, will bid goodbye to TVRGO on Friday, June 26.

The series finale will be posted at 8pm Eastern time. A retrospective will be posted at 7pm, featuring a discussion of the franchise and a few polls.

TVRGO March News Day (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post has been updated to reflect changes in scheduling for some shows due to Major League Baseball’s compliance with the coronavirus pandemic. That’s right, it’s not just regular TV shows that are being affected.

Another month means another news day for TVRGO. Here are some updates on our TVRGO schedule:

The Bullpen
Originally scheduled to premiere on Saturday, April 4, the season 3 premiere of The Bullpen has now been pushed back indefinitely. The season was supposed to be in part a parody of recent baseball events, which can’t be done if baseball is not being played.

We plan on premiering Season 3 of The Bullpen around the time the MLB returns with their regular season. That is speculated to be early June, but could change.

Bar Exam
We hope to be able to bring The Bullpen’s spinoff, Bar Exam, back for a Season 2. This will depend on when the MLB season starts, and if we have scheduling space at that time. The sooner the season starts, the better the prospects are for a Season 2. It will likely be less than the 13 episode Season 1 order, but that shouldn’t be taken as a sign that it gets weak page views. We plan on aligning its schedule with the baseball season since Season 2 is to have more focus on it being baseball season.

Put Me In

Put Me In, our latest baseball series, is now slated to premiere on Saturday, April 4. Put Me In is a comedy that follows Carter Danderson, a brand new relief pitcher for the fictional Philadelphia Pioneers. When the team’s star pitcher is horribly injured, Carter is added to the starting rotation. Carter isn’t used to all of the fame, but he’s glad to be in the spotlight.

An episode order has yet to be determined for the show.

Backdoor Pilot for Working As A Family

Working As A Family’s backdoor pilot will be published on Tuesday, March 17 and double up as Season 2, Episode 20 of Writer’s Block. As previously announced, Working As A Family will premiere in the summer.

Finales
Bake Your Heart Out’s first season finale will be on Thursday, March 19. It has already been renewed for a second season to air in the summer.

Finally Back Home will wrap up its first season on Friday, March 13. No decision has been made as to if a second season will happen.

Network will wrap up its third season on Sunday, March 29. It has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Bar Exam will conclude its first season on Friday, March 28. As with Finally Back Home, no decision has been made as to its future.

Premieres
Our House will return for the remainder of its second season on Thursday, March 26.

Finally Growing Up premieres Friday, March 20. The show is a spinoff of Finally Together. Finally Growing Up will follow the characters of Chris, Drew, and Julian, three brothers who are left on their own after a sudden turn of events and must figure out how to live life without living with their parents.

The Bullpen will begin its third season on Saturday, April 4.
