Sunday TV Ratings 12/13/20: Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy Rise for Christmas Episodes, Supermarket Sweep and Millionaire Slip to New Lows (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: With 'AFV' swapped out for a repeat of 'Disney Holiday Singalong' (0.4) in the 7pm hour, ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.5) inched down to a new low for its penultimate 2020 installment. Following 'Sweep', 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' (0.3) and 'Card Sharks' (0.2) sunk to unsettling levels with 'Millionaire' cementing a new series low. On CBS, '60 Minutes' (0.7) was a full point below last week's NFL-charged outing (1.7). Lead-out drama 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.5) ticked up while 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.4) inched down. NBC's 'Steelers v. Bills' NFL game (3.9) was a notch above the week-ago 'Broncos v. Chiefs' game (3.8) and will likely adjust up in finals. Aided by 'NFL Overrun' (4.5) and 'The OT' (3.0), Fox's 'The Simpsons' (1.3) rose seven-tenths from its previous outing but was two-tenths behind its last NFL-boosted episode (1.5). 'Bless the Harts' (0.6) was up two-tenths while 'Bob's Burgers' (0.6) and 'Family Guy' (0.7) were each a tenth above last week. On the CW, the 'Pandora' finale (0.0) and 'The Outpost' (0.0) both lost a tenth from their last installments.

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (5.7, +1.2), 'Bless the Harts' (0.7, +0.1), and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.7, +0.1) adjusted up on Fox. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.8, +0.1) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.6, +0.1) adjusted up, as did 'Card Sharks' (0.3, +0.1) on ABC. NBC's 'Football Night in America' (1.0, -0.5; 2.4, -1.1) adjusted down while the 'Steelers v. Bills' game (4.6, +0.7) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 11/1/20: The Simpsons Has a Big Result for Post-NFL Treehouse of Horror, Sunday Night Football Rises, Supermarket Sweep Down Again (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After nearly a month off the air, Fox's 'Animation Domination' block was back to air their Halloween episodes the day after the end of All Hallows Eve. With the help of 'NFL Overrun' (4.5) in the 7pm hour, 'The Simpsons' (2.2) catapulted to a new season high, five-tenths above the last time it had football assistance (1.7). As usual, that momentum came to a screeching halt when the clock struck 8:30 as 'Bless the Harts' (0.9) lost just about 60% of that audience. Nonetheless, it was still a new high for the struggling sophomore. The slippage slowed down a bit in the 9pm hour as 'Bob's Burgers' (0.7) and 'Family Guy' (0.7) matched their highs but couldn't quite create new ones. 

Outside of Fox animation, NBC had the 'Cowboys v. Eagles' NFL game (3.9) and 'Football Night in America' (1.4/3.5). ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.7) took a concerning two-tenth drop in week three, now three-tenths below its stellar debut (1.0). 9pm lead-out 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' (0.5) shed a tenth in the process while 'Card Sharks' (0.3) managed to hold steady. 'AFV' (0.7) also held even in the 7pm hour. CBS went with '60 Minutes' (0.8) and the 2016 film 'Star Trek Beyond' (0.4). The CW had another disastrous showing of 'Pandora' (0.0) paired with slightly stronger 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' encores (0.1/0.1).

Finals Update: NBC's 'Cowboys v Eagles' NFL game (4.9, +1.0) adjusted up while 'Football Night in America' (0.6, -0.8; 1.9, -1.6) adjusted down. Fox's 'NFL Overrun' (6.3, +1.8) adjusted up alongside the 9pm episode of 'Bob's Burgers' (0.8, +0.1). Both 'The Simpsons' (1.7, -0.5) and 'Bless the Harts' (0.8, -0.1) adjusted down. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.9, +0.1) and ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.8, +0.1) also adjusted up. 

Sunday TV Ratings 10/25/20: 60 Minutes Soars while Scream Stumbles Behind It, ABC Game Shows Slip, World Series Steady (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Despite President Trump's '60 Minutes' interview with Lesley Stahl leaking days beforehand, the CBS newsmagazine posted a mammoth 2.4 A18-49 rating and soared to a new season high by a wide margin. Although it did have substantial help from its 'NFL Overrun' (3.6) lead-in, 'Minutes' retained a much larger portion of the football audience than usual. A repeat of comedy 'The Neighborhood' (1.1) was the direct lead-out to '60 Minutes' and posted a number higher than 95% of its original broadcasts from fall 2019 and spring 2020. There was significant ratings erosion from there as a broadcast of the 1996 film 'Scream' (0.4) lost most of the 'Neighborhood' audience at 9pm. 

ABC's 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.8) shed two-tenths from last week's premiere even as 7pm lead-in 'AFV' (0.7) inched up from its week-ago debut. This still puts 'Sweep' in respectable territory but it'll have to stop its slide if it wants to continue being a valuable player. 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (0.5) and 'Card Sharks' (0.3) similarly lost a tenth apiece from their last outings. NBC won the night overall with its showing of the 'Buccaneers v Raiders' NFL game (3.6) alongside 'Football Night in America' (1.8/3.0). Fox had game 5 of the 'World Series' (1.7) and a World Series pregame (1.8). The game was steady with game 4 from Saturday. The CW's 'Pandora' (0.1) held even and led into encores of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.1/0.1).

Sunday TV Ratings 10/18/20: Supermarket Sweep Premieres Strong as Millionaire and Card Sharks Struggle, NFL Sunday Night Football Drops vs. Final MLB NLCS Game (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Hosted by SNL alumni Leslie Jones, ABC's reboot of 60's game show 'Supermarket Sweep' (1.0) got off to a roaring start. Few non-sports broadcasts are even able to cross the 1.0 A18-49 threshold these days, meaning this incarnation of 'Sweep' is currently in very good shape. Unfortunately for the alphabet network, the programs surrounding 'Sweep' did not perform nearly as well. 9pm lead-out 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' (0.6) started well below the 0.8s and 0.9s it was garnering in the early summer months but still a notch above its low-point (0.5). 10pm game show 'Card Sharks' (0.4) began in even more dire territory, creating a new series low after being off the air for fourteen months. 'AFV' (0.5) began its season in soft fashion, falling three-tenths behind last year's premiere in the 7pm hour.

Fox's 'Animation Domination' block took the night off as game 7 of the NLCS took its place (1.9). The game got significantly more help than usual thanks to NFL Overrun (4.6) and 'The OT' (3.1). NBC had 'Football Night in America' (1.5/2.8) and the 'Rams v. 49ers' NFL game (2.8). CBS went with an original '60 Minutes' (0.8), 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' (0.5) and a repeat of 'Mom' (0.3). The CW was steady with 'Pandora' (0.1) but got absolutely no mileage out of a pair of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' encores (0.0/0.0). 

Finals Update: On Fox, 'NFL Overrun' (6.1, +1.5), The OT (3.2, +0.1), and NLCS game 7 (2.9, +1.0) all adjusted up. NBC's 'Football Night in America' (1.2, -0.3; 2.1, -0.7) adjusted down while their NFL game (3.7, +0.9) adjusted up. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.9, +0.1) adjusted up while a repeat of 'Mom' (0.2, -0.1) adjusted down. The season premiere of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.6, +0.1) adjusted up on ABC, as did a 9:30pm repeat of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.1, +0.1) on the CW. 

Sunday TV Ratings 10/11/20: NBA Finals Rises on Final Night, NFL Sunday Night Football Drops, Fox Cartoons Rise (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: With the Lakers scoring a monumental victory, the sixth and final NBA finals game bowed out with a preliminary 2.1 A18-49 rating. This was a tenth higher than what game five posted in prelims and tied with the first game. Game 6 will likely adjust up to a 3.0 rating or higher after finals. The game's lead-in was 'NBA Countdown' (1.4) while 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (1.4) had the privilege of being the lead-out. On NBC, the 'Vikings v. Seahawks' NFL game (3.2) shed three-tenths from what football garnered last week in prelims. Preceding football was 'Football Night in America' (1.5/3.1). CBS had a sturdy NFL Overrun (4.7) that helped boost '60 Minutes' (1.2) by a few tenths. But the momentum couldn't seem to spill into a repeat of 'Minutes' (0.5) and a showing of the 1995 film 'Clueless' (0.4). 

Even without football assistance, week three of Fox's cartoon lineup saw a noticeable bump when compared to last week's miserable showings. Although 'The Simpsons' (0.5) was steady at the start of the night, 'Bless the Harts' (0.4), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.5), and 'Family Guy' (0.6) all gained a tenth. Animated repeats (0.4/0.3) populated the 7pm hour. And the CW had a stable 'Pandora' (0.1) leading into a 'Devils' repeat (0.1).

Game 6 of the NBA finals (3.2, +1.1) adjusted up while 'NBA Countdown' (0.4, -1.0) and 'Jimmy Kimmel' (0.5, -0.9) adjusted down.
