Stormere Season 2 Episode 2: Fractured

STORMERE

Season 2, Episode 2: "Fractured"

EXT. HILLSIDE CAMP – DAWN

Cold morning light. The fire is dead. Ash scattered by the wind.

SOREN is already awake. Sitting. Still. Hunter’s sword across his lap.

LYRA and ARIADNE stir behind him.

No one says good morning. No one says anything.

Soren stands.

SOREN: We move.

He starts walking.

No hesitation.

Lyra and Ariadne exchange a look.

Then follow.

EXT. FOREST EDGE – MORNING

The desert gives way to dry woodland.

Twisted trees. Long shadows.

The world feels quieter here.

Too quiet.

The three walk.

Closer now than yesterday.

But still not together.

A broken triangle.

EXT. FOREST PATH – LATER

Branches snap underfoot.

A crow watches from above.

Ariadne slows slightly.

Something’s wrong.

ARIADNE: Wait.

Soren keeps walking.

SOREN: We don’t have time to wait.

ARIADNE: Soren…

He stops.

Turns.

Irritated.

SOREN: What?

Ariadne looks around.

Uneasy.

ARIADNE: There’s too much magic here. I don’t think going this way is safe.

Lyra frowns.

LYRA: Too much?

ARIADNE: Not like before. Not natural. It feels… unstable.

Soren exhales sharply.

SOREN: We don’t have time for this.

He turns again.

SOREN (CONT’D): We keep moving.

Ariadne opens her mouth but… she stops.

EXT. CLEARING – AFTERNOON

They reach a clearing.

A small group of TRAVELERS gathered around a wagon.

One wheel broken.

Supplies scattered.

No one arguing.

No one panicking.

Just… quiet.

A man kneels, trying to fix it.

Hands shaking.

A WOMAN stands nearby, holding a child.

Watching.

Waiting.

Soren slows.

Lyra notices.

LYRA: We should help them.

Soren doesn’t answer.

He just watches.

The man fails again.

Drops the tool.

The woman doesn’t move.

The child doesn’t cry.

Lyra steps forward.

LYRA (CONT’D): We’re helping them.

Soren grabs her arm.

SOREN: No.

Lyra pulls back.

LYRA: What is wrong with you?

SOREN: It’s not our problem.

Lyra stares at him.

Anger rising.

LYRA: That’s all you’ve been saying. Is that your new motto?

A beat.

LYRA (CONT’D): That’s not who you are.

Soren’s expression hardens.

SOREN: You don’t know who I am.

Silence.

SOREN (to himself): I don’t even know who I am.

Heavy.

Ariadne steps between them.

ARIADNE: Stop.

She looks at Soren.

ARIADNE (CONT’D): We don’t have to save everyone.

Then to Lyra…

ARIADNE (CONT’D): But we don’t have to ignore them either.

Lyra looks back at the travelers.

Then at Soren.

A choice.

Soren lets go.

Steps back.

Doesn’t help.

Lyra does.

She kneels beside the man.

LYRA: Move.

The man obeys instantly.

Too quickly.

Lyra fixes the wheel with practiced efficiency.

No thanks.

No conversation.

Just a quiet nod.

She stands.

Looks at them.

Nothing.

No relief.

No gratitude.

Just… compliance.

Lyra steps back.

Unsettled.

They walk away.

EXT. RIVER CROSSING – LATE AFTERNOON

A shallow river cuts across their path.

Water slow.

Almost still.

They step through.

The sound of water echoes strangely.

Too loud.

Too clear.

Halfway across…

A ripple.

Not natural.

Ariadne freezes.

ARIADNE: Stop.

The water trembles.

Then…

A pulse of faint light beneath the surface.

Gone as quickly as it came.

Lyra steps back.

LYRA: What was that?

Ariadne stares at the water.

Shaken.

ARIADNE: Magic. Something isn’t right. I’ll need to investigate this better once we get to Willowford.

Soren crosses anyway.

Doesn’t stop.

Doesn’t care.

Lyra follows more carefully.

Ariadne last.

Still watching.

Still thinking.

EXT. RIDGE OVERLOOK – SUNSET

They reach a high ridge.

From here, the land stretches far.

Fields.

Roads.

Small towns.

All orderly.

All quiet.

All wrong.

Soren stands at the edge.

Looking.

Searching.

Lyra approaches.

LYRA: You’re not okay.

Soren doesn’t respond.

LYRA (CONT’D): And pretending you are isn’t helping anyone. Not even yourself.

Soren exhales.

Tired.

SOREN: I’m not pretending.

He finally looks at her.

SOREN (CONT’D): I just don’t care.

That lands.

Hard.

Lyra shakes her head.

LYRA: That’s a lie.

Soren almost reacts.

Almost.

But shuts it down.

SOREN: Believe whatever you want.

He walks past her.

Lyra stands there.

Furious.

Hurt.

Ariadne watches both of them.

The fracture widening.

EXT. CAMP – NIGHT

Another fire.

Even smaller this time.

Lyra sits apart.

Ariadne beside her.

Soren alone.

Again.

A long silence.

Then…

Footsteps.

A figure approaches through the trees.

Calm.

Familiar.

RONIN.

He stops just outside the firelight.

RONIN: I was wondering how long it would take you to come back.

Soren looks up.

No surprise.

Just recognition.

SOREN: Not long enough. What are you doing here?

Ronin steps forward.

Takes them all in.

The distance.

The damage.

RONIN: Went to the capital for some work. Heading back now. How about you? You look worse than the last time I saw you.

Lyra almost laughs.

Almost.

Ariadne studies him carefully.

ARIADNE: You knew we were coming?

Ronin shrugs.

RONIN: Of course not. (laughs) I was heading back home when I thought I heard him.

He looks at him.

RONIN (CONT’D): Where’s Hunter?

Soren stops. No one manages to look Ronin in the eyes.

Ronin steps closer.

RONIN (CONT’D): Soren…?

Soren doesn’t answer.

SOREN: He’s gone.

Ronin puts a hand on Soren’s shoulder.

RONIN: I’m so sorry, Soren. I won’t ask what happened. You’ll tell me when you’re ready. Let’s rest. We’ll head home in the morning.

SOREN: Thank you.

They finish getting ready and go to sleep. With Hunter on their minds.

EXT. ROAD TO WILLOWFORD – DAWN

The four walk together now.

Not united.

But not completely broken either.

Ronin walks beside Soren.

Lyra and Ariadne behind.

The road curves upward.

A hill ahead.

Ronin glances at Soren.

RONIN: You ready to go home?

Soren tightens his grip on Hunter’s sword.

SOREN: No.

A beat.

SOREN (CONT’D): But I have to do this.

They reach the top of the hill.

And stop.

EXT. HILL OVERLOOKING WILLOWFORD – CONTINUOUS

Below… WILLOWFORD.

Changed.

Cleaner.

Controlled.

And at its center… A statue.

NOX.

Watching over everything.

Silence.

Lyra exhales slowly.

LYRA: Yeah… this is bad.

Ariadne doesn’t speak.

She just stares.

Soren steps forward.

Just one step.

Eyes locked on the town.

On the statue.

On home.

SOREN: Let’s go.

A beat.

SOREN (CONT’D): This ends here.

They descend.

Toward Willowford.

Toward whatever it’s become.

CUT TO BLACK.

END OF EPISODE.
