Kitchen Nightmares: Ever since its return from a nearly decade-long hiatus, Kitchen Nightmares has looked quite solid. It hasn't yet found a regular spot on the schedule, like Hell's Kitchen or MasterChef, but it's clearly a strong utility player for them. It aired in the fall during the ill-fated strike season, then moved to winter the season after that, and now is airing in the summer. If its premiere ratings hold up, it just might find itself a permanent slot in Fox's summer rotation.
It debuted to a very impressive 0.27 rating, up from its early 2025 debut. It was down slightly in the 9 PM hour, but was still more than respectable with a 0.25 rating. That's a 0.26 average to start off the season, barely any lower than season nine's 0.28 average, despite airing in what has traditionally been a much more difficult portion of the year. Gordon Ramsay has a mostly positive track record (with the few notable duds easily outweighed by respectable or even hit performers) on Fox, and Fox has shown him great loyalty in return for it. While still early in its revival run, Kitchen Nightmares has thus far shown all the signs that it can once again become a staple for Fox. It's a certain renewal.
American Ninja Warrior: After a rough start to the season that included major sports competition and a later timeslot than it was used to, NBC finally put in the work to turn things around for American Ninja Warrior. The results were seen immediately. The show jumped to a 0.28 in the demo, actually up from the episode it aired the comparative week in 2025. Season 17 posted a 0.26 average overall, so ANW is back on track to business as usual. It's not a summer hit anymore, but it very much appears that it is once again a respectable performer. One could argue that a show on the air this long shouldn't rely quit so heavily on the local lead-in, but it's still doing better than plenty of regular-season TV series airing in 8 PM slots, so it's pretty safe. It's a likely renewal, my only pause being that NBC was willing to gamble with its ratings to begin with - that's something they's surely never do with their summer priority, America's Got Talent.
The Wall: Last Monday also marked the return of The Wall on NBC, after a very brief stint in an earlier Monday hour back in winter. Readers of my NBC Renew/Cancel know my thoughts on The Wall, but in summary, this season was filmed two years ago already, despite just now seeing the light of day. TV shows, even filler game shows, sometimes do survive a lengthy filming hiatus - just look at Press Your Luck, which I somewhat wrote off last season for similar reasons. That being said, The Wall has not aired as consistently on NBC as Press Your Luck has on ABC, often airing in brief spurts wherever they need to fill time. They repeat it pretty heavily still, because it does repeat decently enough on weekends, but original episodes air all over the schedule. It'll have another brief Monday run before it then shifts to Wednesday. Its ratings on Mondays have not been strong. It was a meager performer in the winter, and it returned to only a 0.15 last week. It's also not a streaming hit whatsoever. Everything seems to be working against the show, and after a 100+ episode run by the end of this season, it's probably just run its course. It leans renewal, still having a chance to return just in case NBC is still looking for some cheaper filler programming.
