Wednesday TV Ratings 9/30/20: The 100 Rises for Series Finale, NBA Finals Massively Down from 2019 Opener, The Masked Singer Rises (UPDATED)
Preliminary Analysis: Game 1 of the NBA Finals (Lakers vs. Heat) garnered a sturdy 2.1 rating but was down an egregious amount from the 4.8 A18-49 rating that the first game managed in May 2019. The good news is that the game will almost certainly adjust up after finals but it will continue to trail last year's numbers. Nonetheless, the NBA game topped the night by a wide margin, leading out of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night' (1.1) and 'NBA Countdown' (1.0).
Over on Fox, 'The Masked Singer' (1.7) actually managed to gain a tenth in week two, now several ticks above the preliminary 1.4 rating it pulled last week. Lead-out 'I Can See Your Voice' (1.1) wrapped up "Kensday" down a tenth from its premiere. Although it looks significantly weaker than a week ago, 'Voice' continues to hold up quite nicely. CBS's 'Big Brother' (1.0) lost two-tenths from last week while 'Love Island' (0.5) inched down from yesterday's debate-boosted broadcast. '48 Hours: Suspicion' (0.3) shed a tenth to close out the night. NBC had repeats of 'Ellen's Game of Games' (0.4/0.4) and 'Weakest Link' (0.3). And the CW had the series finale of 'The 100' (0.2) and a repeat of 'Penn & Teller' (0.1). 'The 100' rose a tenth for its final episode ever.
Finals Update: 'The Masked Singer' (+0.2), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'NBA Finals Game 1' (+0.8), and the repeat of 'Ellen's Game of Games' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night' (-0.5) and 'NBA Countdown' (-0.2) adjusted down.
Wednesday TV Ratings 9/23/20: The Masked Singer And I Can See Your Voice Lead FOX To A “Kensday” Win, AGT Rises for Finale, Coroner Steady for Finale (UPDATED)
Wednesday TV Ratings 9/9/20: 48 Hours: Suspicion Starts Far Lower Than Previous Tiger King Special,, Big Brother Rises (UPDATED)
Preliminary Analysis: Following in the footsteps of Fox's TMZ special (that garnered a robust 1.0 rating), CBS decided to cash in on the 'Tiger King' hysteria with a special of their own in the form of '48 Hours: Suspicion' (0.3). The '48 Hours' outing debuted in pretty feeble territory, losing a tenth from a stable 'Love Island' (0.4) before it. While the Fox special had a much stronger lead-in (1.5), this is still a pretty unsatisfactory result that may signal the hype for the Netflix series has died down. CBS started the night with longtime juggernaut 'Big Brother' (1.0), the series lost a tenth from its last Wednesday episode but rose from its Sunday airing.
NBC's own powerhouse 'America's Got Talent' (0.6) couldn't hold a candle to CBS's 8pm effort but at least held stable with its last installment. It led into a very low-rated 'Inspire Change' special (0.2) and a 'Chicago Fire' repeat (0.2). Fox managed to beat out the peacock network's encores with a duo of 'MasterChef' repeats (0.4/0.4). ABC fell behind them with a set of six comedy repeats (0.4/0.3/0.3/0.3/0.3/0.2). The CW gained a tick with 'The 100' (0.2) but was frozen at 0.1 with 'Coroner'.
Finals Update: Big Brother (+0.1) and 48 Hours: Suspicion (+0.1) adjusted up.
