’Champions’ Canceled After One Season

NBC has canceled comedy Champions after a single season. The series was created by Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy. Anders Holm, Fortune Feimster, Andy Favreau, J.J. Totah, and Mouzam Makkar made up the main cast. During its eight-episode run, Champions averaged a pathetic 0.51 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. This was a correct prediction by the TV Ratings Guide.

Champions to Premiere on NBC on March 8

Per the show's Twitter page, NBC comedy Champions will premiere on Thursday, March 8, presumably at 8:30, as that timeslot will be vacated with the season finale of The Good Place scheduled for February 1.

The comedy, created by Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kailing, who plays a recurring role in the series, stars Anders Holm as the owner of a gym who lives with his younger brother, played by Andy Favreau, and suddenly has to take care of a 15-year-old son, played by J.J. Totah, who he never knew he had so he can go to a performing arts school.

Champions Ordered to Series by NBC

The Mindy project may be ending soon but NBC isn't done with Mindy yet. The network has given a series order to comedy pilot Champions which she will produce and is set to appear on a recurring basis. With this pickup, The Sackett Sisters is NBC's left standing.

The comedy follows a charismatic gym owner living with his brother ends up finding his ex girlfriend at his doorstep with their son.
