Monday night’s edition of Anderson Cooper 360 was the highest-rated show that night in all key demos on broadcast and cable. This, as well as the large ratings gains seen across the board, is due to coverage of the protests. Viewers under 55 years old were more inclined to tune into CNN than any other network for the coverage.
MSNBC narrowly avoided having all 12 of their prime time hours placed at the bottom of the chart. A weaker Ingraham Angle on Thursday went below MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show on Tuesday in all key demos. While their programs saw a ratings bump from the previous week, they were still not in a competitive race for second.
Tucker Carlson Tonight, typically FOX News’ highest-rated prime time show, was edged out by Hannity on Thursday. This is a stark contrast to Tuesday night, when Hannity finished below everyone else on FOX News and CNN.
Cable news ratings fluctuate based on national and worldwide events. This would explain the big spike earlier in the week, where more people considered coverage of the protests to be an event viewing.
