Thursday TV Ratings 6/10/21: Rebel Ties Series Low for Series Finale, Beat Shazam Rises, Manifest Ends Steady (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Despite only lasting 10 episodes, ABC put together a grand sendoff for 'Rebel', first airing a 'Rebel'-themed '20/20' special at 8 (0.4) and then capping things off with a two-hour series finale for the Katy Sagal series (0.3/0.3). This marks a new low for the legal drama, further justifying the alphabet network's decision to cancel it. Amidst such a dismal batch of broadcasts, Fox's 'Beat Shazam' (0.5) actually managed to top the night. The Jaime Foxx game show rose a tenth from last week's preliminary 0.4 and led into a rerun of 'LEGO Masters' (0.3). NBC had a steady 'Manifest' finale (0.4) and an 'Organized Crime' encore (0.2). 'United States of Al' (0.4) ticked down on CBS while 'Clarice' (0.2) held even. Repeats of 'Young Sheldon' (0.4), 'Mom' (0.3), and 'B Positive' (0.3) surrounded the two. 'Walker' (0.2) and 'Legacies' (0.1) were flat on the CW.

Finals Update: United States of Al (+0.1) and the repeat of Mom (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 6/3/21: Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime End Steady, Greys Anatomy Rises as Station 19 Slips, Beat Shazam Has Modest Return (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC had a mixed bag with its pair of finales as 'Station 19' (0.6) lost a tenth at 8, but 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.8) gained one in the 9pm slot. 'Rebel' (0.4) held flat at 10 and will conclude with a 2-hour series finale on June 10th. NBC was steady all-around with 'Manifest' (0.4), the 'Law & Order: SVU' finale (0.7), and the 'Organized Crime' closer (0.6). Fox's 'Beat Shazam' (0.4) joined the growing list of shows that have returned from a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. 'Shazam' came in a tenth lower than its previous series low and two-tenths behind its last episode. Repeats of 'Housebroken' (0.2) and 'Duncanville' (0.2) populated the 9pm hour, with 'Duncan' on-par with its previous Monday original. 'United States of Al' (0.4) held even on CBS, matching the 'Young Sheldon' repeat (0.4) leading into it. 'Clarice' (0.2) was back from a three-week break and tied its low. Encores of 'Mom' (0.3) and 'B Positive' (0.3) preceded the future Paramount+ drama. The CW went with reruns of 'Walker' (0.1) and 'Legacies' (0.1).

Finals Update: The 'Station 19' finale (0.7, +0.1), 'United States of Al' (0.5, +0.1), the premiere of 'Beat Shazam' (0.5, +0.1), and a repeat of 'Mom' (0.4, +0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 5/27/21: iHeartRadio Music Awards Collapse, Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 Crash to New Lows, SVU and Organized Crime Also Slip (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Back from a hiatus that lasted over 2 years, the 'iHeartRadio Music Awards' ceremony (0.4) was down over 50% from the last time it appeared in March 2019 (0.9). Considering how long it was off the air and the general trajectory of award shows, this steep decline should come as no surprise. On ABC, 'Station 19' (0.6) and 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.6) were down two-tenths apiece, with the dramas each hitting a new series low. 'Rebel' (0.4) admirably held steady at 10, even as 'Station' and 'Grey's' declined. CBS's 'United States of Al' (0.4) was once again the sole original in a sea of reruns, shedding a tenth from last week. 'States' matched its 'Young Sheldon' repeat lead-in (0.4) and led into encores of 'Mom' (0.4), 'B Positive' (0.3), and 'Clarice' (0.2). 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.6) and 'Organized Crime' (0.6) each lost a tenth on NBC. Earlier in the night, a 'Red Nose Day'-themed edition of 'The Wall' (0.4) performed about the same as the average 'Manifest' in the 8pm slot. The CW went with repeats of 'Walker' (0.1) and 'Legacies' (0.1).

Finals Update: 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.7, +0.1), 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.7, +0.1), 'Station 19' (0.7, +0.1), the 'iHeartRadio Music Awards' (0.5, +0.1), 'The Wall' (0.5, +0.1), and repeats of 'Young Sheldon' (0.5, +0.1) and 'B Positive' (0.4, +0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 5/20/21: Last Man Standing Rises for Series Finale, Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime Stable, Grey’s Anatomy Hits Series Low (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Amassing a total of 194 episodes and 9 seasons overall, Tim Allen sitcom 'Last Man Standing' (0.4) rose a tenth for its series finale. While serving as an improvement over the last three outings, this rating fell short of season-high territory and was lower than episodes from just a few months earlier. Although it'd have been foolish to expect 'Last Man' to soar into the 1.0 range for its last hurrah, it is disappointing that a program that aired for nearly a full decade would go out with such a whimper. Earlier in the night, Fox's puppet show 'Let's Be Real' (0.2) had a finale of its own, remaining steady at that pathetic number behind a 'Family Guy' encore. On ABC, 'Station 19' (0.7) lost a tenth while 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.8) shed a tenth-and-a-half. Canceled drama 'Rebel' (0.4) ticked up after having a repeat lead-in last week. Serving as the lone original on an island of reruns, CBS's 'United States of AI' (0.4) dropped by two-tenths and hit a new low. NBC was stable across the board with struggling 'Manifest' (0.4) and solid helpings of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.7) and 'Organized Crime' (0.7). 'Walker' (0.2) gained a tenth on the CW as 'Legacies' (0.1) held even.

Finals Update: 'Station 19' (0.8, +0.1) and 'United States of Al '(0.5, +0.1) adjusted up.

ABC 2020-21 Season Renew/Cancel Wrap-Up: Thoughts on American Housewife, The Goldbergs, Rebel, For Life, The Conners and More

Well, it's time to truly say goodbye to the ABC Renew/Cancel for the season. Every renewal's been handed out. Every cancellation has been delivered. In this edition of the Renew/Cancel, I'm looking over my prediction record for every show. In an unusual season, every renewal and cancellation decision on ABC was handed out in an eleven day period this May, so I have a lot of recapping to do! KEep reading for my thoughts on the fates of bubble shows like American Housewife, Home Economics, Rebel and more!
