"Dead of Night"

The sun sets. The zombies continue to bang against the windows and walls. The human survivors of Miami huddle together. Hendricks stands in front of a window. Violet stands next to him.
HENDRICKS
We can’t stay here.
VIOLET
You got a plan in mind?
HENDRICKS
There’s only one thing we can do. We go out there and we kill every last one of them.
VIOLET
I can get behind that.
HENDRICKS
We need to contact Freddy. He has people in the shelter protecting the two Mayors. If we combine them, we may stand a chance. I’ll radio them. You ready the troops.
EXT. OCEAN - NIGHT
The boat drifts. Frank sits at the wheel. Ava sits mournfully.
AVA
He’s dead because of me.
FRANK
He died as a soldier.
AVA
Yeah, but he still died.
Frank sits next to Ava.
FRANK
He shouldn’t have died. He didn’t have to. Dion decided to put our lives above his. We can’t let his death mean nothing.
Ava nods.
AVA
Who were those people?
FRANK
The Genesis Group, they’re the ones who sent the army. They’re behind everything. The virus, the Rig, the Genesis Protocol, and the nukes. They were working with Richards. It was all them. They wanted to rebuild the world in their image.
AVA
And instead, they destroyed it.
FRANK
Maybe. Maybe not. We can still rebuild. We can always rebuild.
They sit in silence.
AVA
We should head back to Miami. Hendricks is probably freaking out. And Hank... Oh my gosh, I left Hank. My own son. I left him in a zombie-infested hellhole.
FRANK
Hey hey hey, it’s ok. We’re going to get back. We’re going to help them. We’ll think of something on the way. Hendricks and Hank will be fine.
AVA
Yeah. Yeah you’re right. Sorry.
Frank goes back to the wheel. He unrolls a map and looks at it.
FRANK
Ava, if our coordinates are right, we’re a few miles from the wreckage of the Rig.
AVA
Didn’t it sink?
FRANK
Maybe. Maybe not.
AVA
Why are you bringing this up?
FRANK
Ava, the cure is there.
AVA
Frank, for all we know it was destroyed in the explosion.
FRANK
The medical room was blast-proof. Right?
AVA
I-I think so. I didn’t really pay attention to the walls.
FRANK
I remember RJ telling Hendricks and I. When he rescued us from the boat. Ava, if we go to the Rig and the cure is still there, then we can end all of this. We can have the scientists at Miami replicate it. We can dispense it to everyone on the planet.
AVA
It’s a long shot.
FRANK
We have to try. We owe it to Dion, to RJ, to Callahan... to Ulysses.
Ava contemplates.
AVA
Ok. Let’s do it.
Frank starts the boat. The boat heads towards the wreckage of the Rig.
INT. THE MARQUIS - NIGHT
Hendricks loads his pistol. Violet sharpens her machete.
HENDRICKS
Freddy says his people are ready.
VIOLET
Ours are ready also.
HENDRICKS
Are the flares ready?
VIOLET
Yes. Two of my men are on the upper floors.
Hendricks walks to the doors. The rearmed citizens gather behind him. Hendricks turns to them.
HENDRICKS
I guess I could give some rousing speech but... I think instead I’ll just say... let’s end this. Violet...give the call.
Violet pulls out her radio.
VIOLET
(Radio)
Now.
Flares are shot into the air. The zombies see it and run towards where they land. The citizens remove the barricades and open the doors. Hendricks and the citizens run outside and charge at the zombies.
