2x04 - “The Chain”

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY
CHARLIE, KASEY, LEAH, MATT, JESSE, and ASH all meet in the conference room. CHARLIE is standing and is holding a stack of papers. JESSE and KASEY have notepads out in front of them, LEAH has a solemn expression while holding another stack of papers, and MATT sits emotionless.
CHARLIE proceeds to call the meeting.
CHARLIE
(solemnly)
Alright. This is a serious moment in the history of our network. Ash, thank you for being with us today.
ASH
It is my pleasure.
Charlie passes a stack of papers to Matt.
CHARLIE
You do suppose you know why we are here today, Ash?
ASH
I have some idea. I am being accused of domestic abuse.
CHARLIE
A little right on the nose?
JESSE
I guess so.
Kasey then looks up from her notepad.
KASEY
(sternly)
Ash, what happened on the night of December 21?
ASH
I was in my office.
KASEY
And?
ASH
I was watching the entertainment news from that night. Then I got a phone call that changed my life.
MATT
And what would that be?
ASH
(sadly)
That would be the allegations against me filed by my ex-wife, Carolyn.
LEAH
She has terrorized our family ever since.
Charlie then looks at Leah, and quickly stands up out of her seat.
CHARLIE
I knew it. I should have pummeled her when I had the chance.
KASEY
(sternly)
Charlie, we are having an ethics committee meeting.
CHARLIE
So? Don't you want to get to the bottom of these allegations?
Matt then looks at Charlie.
MATT
Of course we want to get to the bottom of these allegations.
JESSE
Affirmative.
CHARLIE
(in frustration)
You do realize that someone is lying here?
LEAH
That is something I am trying to figure out too.
ASH
(reassurance)
It is going to be okay, honey.
Jesse looks up from his notepad.
JESSE
Okay. I did not need to see this.
All of a sudden, HOLLY shows up to the scene, carrying a USB.
Leah’s eyes widen.
LEAH
Holly? What are you doing here?
HOLLY
I work for the FBI. Interning with the cyber security department.
CHARLIE
Carolyn’s dirt implicates Ash in the process.
LEAH
I appreciate the help. But, isn’t that illegal?
ASH
Leah, honey, if this clears me, I will be over the moon.
HOLLY
Well, Carolyn is a piece of work.
CHARLIE
What do I tell you?
HOLLY
She is the one instigating all this mess. She has been charged with domestic battery and is trying to pin it on her ex-husband. She is also trying to come up with a grandiose plan to take the network down.
LEAH
(frustrated)
Why would she do this?
ASH
Beats me.
CHARLIE
In that case, Ash, you are cleared of wrongdoing. You are free to return to your post.
ASH
Not so fast.
CHARLIE
What?
JESSE
We need to see the results of the lawsuit first.
CHARLIE
(angrily)
And what happens if the lawsuit does not go our way?
Kasey stands up, with eyes widened.
KASEY
What? Not go our way? I would faint before that happens.
LEAH
Guys, look!
Leah hands Charlie the phone.
CHARLIE
He is clear! Excuse me for a second...
ASH
Charlie!
CUT TO:
INT. BUSINESS HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
Charlie walks out of the conference room with a baseball bat in one hand and a stack of papers in the other.
CHARLIE
I will show her that I refuse to be messed with.
Kasey enters the scene.
KASEY
Charlie!
