Ratings Analysis: In game 6, the Stanley Cup (1.11, -0.02) inched down but still topped the night, giving ABC its second Friday-night victory in a row. WWE Smackdown (0.73, +0.21) soared on Fox, but it had to settle for second place once more. On NBC, the track & field portion of the US Olympic Trials (0.53) sported a higher rating than the swimming portion (0.39) that aired before it. CBS's Lingo (0.19, +0.01) picked up a hundredth and led into repeats of SWAT (0.12) and Blue Bloods (0.14). The Big Bakeover (0.04, +0.02) doubled last week's premiere rating on the CW. Saturday TV Ratings 6/24/23: American Born Chinese Preview Weak, MLB Leads but Remains Below-Average, USFL Continues to Struggle (UPDATED)
Ratings Analysis: With the 'U.S. Open' now out of the picture, Fox's broadcast of 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.33, +0.14) enjoyed a healthy rebound and returned to the top of the Saturday night leaderboard. NBC tried to compete with their 'MI v. Pittsburgh' USFL game (0.14) but failed miserably. On ABC, a preview of Disney+ series 'American Born Chinese' (0.12) bombed hard and was outshined by reruns of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.17/0.19). CBS had meager repeats of 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.09) and 'Blue Bloods' (0.09). The 10 p.m. '48 Hours' encore (0.15) improved from there. On the CW, 'Totally Weird and Funny' (0.03, +0.01 | 0.02, 0.00) was close to even on finale night, with a minor uptick at 9 but no change at 9:30. Reruns of 'Masters of Illusion' (0.04/0.04) performed a bit better in the 8 p.m. hour.
Finals Update: 'MLB' (+0.1) and the 9 PM repeat of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1) adjusted up.
Saturday TV Ratings 6/17/23: US Open Golf Championship Soars, Weak Showing for MLB (UPDATED)
Ratings Analysis: Night three of the '2023 US Open Golf Championship' (0.65, +0.25) proved to be the most successful one yet. The NBC broadcast of the event soared to its strongest Adults 18-49 rating of this cycle and was finally able to be the highest-rated program of the night. Seemingly in response to the added competition, Fox's 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.19, -0.23) completely collapsed in the 8 p.m. hour. 'MLB' fell so far that even a 9 p.m. rerun of ABC's 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.21) outpaced it by a few ticks. The 8 p.m. (0.18) and 10 p.m. (0.17) reruns of 'AFV' were on the softer side in comparison. CBS had a meager 'NCIS' rerun (0.07) and a pair of '48 Hours' encores (0.10/0.13) that tried their best to improve on their lousy lead-in. 'Totally Weird and Funny' (0.02, -0.02 | 0.02, -0.02) took a hit on The CW. Repeats of 'Masters of Illusion' (0.02/0.02) occupied the 8 o'clock hour.
Finals Update: 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (+0.1) adjusted up.
Saturday TV Ratings 6/10/23: Minimal Interest in Inspiring America Special, MLB Easily Leads (UPDATED)
Ratings Analysis: NBC's 'Inspiring America' special (0.11) was a complete dud in the 8 o'clock hour, even by depressed Saturday standards. This telecast performed so poorly that reruns of 'Weakest Link' (0.12) and 'Password' (0.16) built on it as the evening progressed. Fox's 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.42, +0.05) held its lead yet again and grew by five-hundredths in the key demographic. CBS had an abysmal repeat of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.09) and solid encores of '48 Hours' (0.14/0.19). ABC went with a rerun marathon of 'The Rookie' (0.12/0.11/0.11). On the CW, 'Masters of Illusion' (0.04, +0.02) and 'Totally Weird and Funny' (0.04, +0.02 | 0.04, +0.03) were on the upswing.
Finals Update: 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (+0.1) adjusted up.
Saturday TV Ratings 6/3/23: MLB Coverage Leads, America’s Funniest Home Videos Repeat Takes Second (UPDATED)
Ratings Analysis: Fox's 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.37, +0.06) grew by six-hundredths and was the top broadcast of the evening. ABC came in second with a solid trio of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' reruns (0.22/0.25/0.19). NBC had passable encores of 'The Wall' (0.14), 'Weakest Link' (0.14), and 'Password' (0.15). On CBS, the 10 o'clock edition of '48 Hours' (0.18, -0.05) declined by half a tenth from its last original (0.23). Earlier in the night, a repeat of '48 Hours' (0.12) came in third-place in the 9 p.m. slot. At 8, the repeat of 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.11) performed slightly worse. On the CW, 'Masters of Illusion' (0.02, -0.02) and 'Totally Weird and Funny' (0.02/0.01) took a hit.
Finals Update: MLB: Regional Coverage (+0.2) adjusted up.
