Abbott Elementary Renewed by ABC

Abbott Elementary will be back in session next season on ABC. The network has renewed their acclaimed veteran comedy for a sixth season, marking ABC's first renewal of the season. Abbott has been a ratings success since its debut, and currently averages 0.33 in the key 18-49 demo, tying it for fourth place among ABC's slate of scripted series. It's also a top-rated series in multiplatform viewing, averaging 1.82 in MP+7 viewing so far, only behind three of its fellow ABC series. The show has won Emmy awards for stars Quinta Brunson and Sheryl Lee Ralph, as well as accolades for its writing and a SAG ensemble award, making it one of the most acclaimed broadcast comedies in recent memory. It has been a staple of ABC's slimmed-down Wednesday comedy lineup since its second season, and will cross the 100-episode mark in its sixth season. Wednesday TV Ratings 2/5/25: Super Bowl Greatest Commercials Up from 2024, Hollywood Squares and Abbott Elementary Rise, Chicago PD Slides [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Hollywood Squares (0.38, +0.08) soared on CBS, but Raid the Cage (0.20, 0.00) failed to rise at ten. In-between the two, the annual Super Bowl Greatest Commercials special (0.36) was a hundredth above last year's edition (0.35). ABC's Shifting Gears (0.40, +0.02), Abbott Elementary (0.38, +0.04), and Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.25, +0.06) all bested their week-ago showings. At ten, a special about Isabella Strahan's cancer fight (0.15) was an improvement over Paradise (0.12). Chicago Med (0.48, +0.03) rose on NBC, but Chicago Fire (0.43, -0.05) and Chicago PD (0.38, -0.10) crashed. Special Forces (0.21, +0.02) was up slightly for its Fox finale. The series has been among ABC’s top performers in multiplatform viewing, and is critically acclaimed, earning numerous Emmys and other awards for creator and star Quinta Brunson. The series has also maintained a solid following in linear ratings, hitting a new series high (aside from last year’s Oscars-boosted airing) did its midseason premiere, a high-profile crossover with fellow Philly-set sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. That boost was short-lived, but the show remains one of the top comedies on TV with a 0.36 average.
