This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, I take a further look at one of the most under-discussed freshman series of the season on NBC, a show which I finally softening on after months of believing it to be a long-shot.

Suits LA: My thoughts on Suits LA's ratings strength remains unchanged from the last time I wrote it, despite a major prediction change. The show is still a bust in the ratings, though one that NBC shouldn't be all that shocked about, considering how Suits was rating when it went off the air over five years ago Despite the tepid (at best) ratings, I think the show's primed to receive a pickup for next season. For one, it's not doing meaningfully worse than Found, which is currently a predicted renewal. Suits LA is fully owned by the network and is currently in its first season, which makes me think it's a decent bet to get a second chance. With NBC almost certain not to order any new dramas for the fall, I think at least one of their struggling dramas on the bubble will get renewed and get a fall slot, similar to The Irrational and Quantum Leap in recent years. While those renewals both proved to be errors, I'm not sure NBC has seen the error of their ways yet, and I think Suits LA is the most likely of their new flop dramas to earn a renewal, and is even in a better position than Found, which has faltered in recent weeks. There are still plenty of arguments against a Suits LA renewal. For one, its delayed ratings are poor (it rose less than a tenth in the L+7 ratings for its most recent airing with delayed ratings available, which is in-line with its typical DVR growth), and the little multiplatform data we got for the show hasn't been that impressive. I also don't think it's impossible for NBC to clean house and replace their struggling scripted series with cheaper gameshows or even international co-productions (as Fox did with Murder in a Small Town, which rated the same as, or even slightly better than, most of their original productions), cost-effective options that can give them some time to seek out their next new scripted success. NBC could also pick one of the other low-rated dramas over it, as there's not much difference between them, strength-wise. However, its recent L+SD ratings have been marginally better than the other shows in contention, with the occasional exception of Found. I think that'll be enough to get it renewed, considering how low the bar seems to be. Everything scripted on NBC at the moment is a ratings catastrophe, aside from the Dick Wolf shows and St. Denis Medical (which itself is looking weaker and weaker as the weeks go on), so unless they only renew Wolf's dramas, a weak performer will be given another season. Suits LA gets the benefit of the doubt in part because it's a spinoff of Suits, seemingly a valuable property for NBC Universal. I'm still very conflicted on what NBC's schedule will look like, and they have a lot of difficult decisions to make in the coming weeks, but my best guess is that Suits LA gets a second chance, even if it's not all that deserved. I remain conflicted on Suits LA, and wouldn't be shocked to see NBC let it - and all of the other underperforming dramas - go, but my gut is pointing me towards a renewal prediction, and that's what I'm going with. It LEANS RENEWAL.
