CHASE, REAGAN, MADISON, ADAM, LINCOLN, and SAM are standing outside Lorenzo’s Kitchen and see a new sign, which reads Lorenzo’s Kitchen by SugarCity.
CHASE
Is Lorenzo sure this is a good idea?
MADISON
Hey, he’s the one with all the financials, not us. I’m sure he made the right decision.
SAM
We’re all lawyers. He has six close friends who are all lawyers and just decided to hire other lawyers instead.
LINCOLN
I don’t think he hired any lawyers.
ADAM
Oh great, so Lorenzo’s Kitchen is going to shit.
REAGAN
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Maybe it’ll be good.
They all walk into the restaurant. LORENZO and HARRY are behind the bar with a third man.
LORENZO
Hey guys! Allow me to introduce myself!
ADAM
We know who you are.
LORENZO
Right. So, I’m sure you’re wondering who these guys next to me are.
CHASE
Hey Harry.
HARRY
What?
CHASE
Just saying hi.
HARRY
Oh. Hi.
REAGAN
Harry, you don’t sound too happy—
LORENZO
Of course he’s happy! Everyone’s happy at Lorenzo’s Kitchen by SugarCity! See Fred? Everyone’s happy!
The lawyers realize LORENZO is acting overenthusiastic because of FRED.
ADAM
Sorry, who’s Fred?
FRED
Vice President of Restaurant Operations at SugarCity. Had this title for five years, but this is my first venture into restaurants.
SAM
Nice to meet you, Fred! Didn’t know SugarCity had a restaurant department.
LINCOLN
I don’t even know what SugarCity is.
FRED
We’ve been meaning to go all-in on restaurants but it’s been a slow process. And apologizes for not elaborating. SugarCity is the largest candy factory in the central United States. We’re the sole candy supplier of the Indianapolis Primitives.
LORENZO
Yeah, me and Fred go way back. That cotton candy machine I stole was property of SugarCity!
REAGAN
I’m just surprised I’ve never heard of the most popular candy factory in the region!
FRED
I said largest. Not most popular. There’s a huge difference.
MADISON
Well Fred, you seem like a great guy. Glad to have you here.
FRED
I appreciate that. Now, where was I...oh! Yelling at Lorenzo.
FRED turns to LORENZO.
FRED
HOW COULD YOU NOT BE UTILIZING THESE CHOCOLATE BARS MORE??? THESE COST SUGARCITY A LOT OF MONEY, YOU KNOW! YOU CAN’T JUST WASTE THEM!
LORENZO
Fred, I know you supplied me with tons of chocolate bars, but I keep telling you I thought they were for me!
FRED
THEY WERE FOR YOU! TO MAKE STUFF WITH TO SELL! NOT TO EAT!!!
LORENZO
I only ate some of it. There’s plenty more in the kitchen.
FRED storms off into the kitchen.
ADAM
Um...what’s up with him?
LORENZO
I think he might be angry.
HARRY
He’s definitely angry.
LORENZO
I’m sure when he sees what I can make out of this, he’ll relax a bit.
FRED returns.
FRED
So there are some candy bars still back there. Make something of them. Impress me.
LORENZO
Will do, Sir.
FRED
You don’t have to call me Sir.
LORENZO runs into the kitchen and quickly comes back with a melted chocolate grilled cheese and a side of chocolate milk.
LORENZO
Chase, I made this with you in mind.
CHASE
Hope it doesn’t chase me away!
CHASE takes a bite of the chocolate grilled cheese and cringes.
FRED
That doesn’t look like a promising face.
CHASE
Hey!
SAM
Chase, he’s talking about the cringe.
FRED
Yeah, you cringed. Lorenzo, I hate to say this but—
CHASE
I always cringe when I eat! It’s a bad habit, I’m working on it.
FRED
Other people, is that true?
Everyone else nods.
FRED
Well then, that’s my mistake. Lorenzo, you impressed me today. Don’t let me down next time. That chocolate bar second menu better be good.
FRED leaves the restaurant.
CHASE
Hey, remember that pun you made about a bar exam when we all first met? It’s kind of the same now. With chocolate bars!
LORENZO
Wow, you’re right.
LORENZO pauses.
LORENZO
Do you think I made the right decision here? You know, letting SugarCity in on the business?
ADAM
Only time will tell. Anyways, would you mind making us something good now? Some burgers?
LORENZO
I can do that. Oh, and also: I know it seems like Fred sucks, but he’s what this restaurant needs.
LINCOLN
What do you mean? He’s a jerk!
HARRY
He’s also honest.
LORENZO
Yeah, I should’ve known I was supposed to do something with the chocolate bars. This will be good for the restaurant. I’m sure the chocolate bar menu will do great.
