EXT. HIGH SCHOOL - MORNING
A high school is situated in the suburbs of the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut.
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT - MORNING
A silver Kia Optima crosses into a parking slot.
From the passenger side, TERRI (15), gets out of the car, waves goodbye, grabs her backpack, and shuts the door.
She walks into the entrance of the school.
TERRI
Wow.
(beat)
What am I going to do here?
She opens the door to the school.
INT. SCHOOL ENTRANCE - CONTINUOUS
As Terri walks into the school, she sighs.
TERRI (CONT'D)
What a day.
INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
Two teenagers randomly make out near the lockers.
A boy taunts another boy near the boys' restroom.
A girl is hanging up posters on bulletin boards.
Terri walks by and sighs, but she notices NATASHA (15) and KATIE (16). She waves.
KATIE
Terri! There you are!
Katie is carrying her pink book bag. Natasha is carrying a lime green backpack.
NATASHA
I was wondering when you were going to show up.
TERRI
I was running late. Brittney was trying to rush on the way over to school.
She laughs, then turns over to Katie.
TERRI (CONT'D)
So, this is it, right?
KATIE
What is?
TERRI
The part where we finally come in as freshmen.
NATASHA
(to Terri)
We haven't even been to homeroom yet.
TERRI
What do you mean?
KATIE
We got about fifteen minutes. School does not start until 8:30.
TERRI
So I'm on time?
KATIE/NATASHA
Yes Terri.
TERRI
Okay.
Terri points to the bulletin boards.
She walks. Katie and Natasha follow her.
INSERT - BULLETIN BOARD
containing a poster reading: "Class officer elections underway. September 15 in Homeroom."
TERRI
(shrugs)
Interesting. I wonder how that is coming up.
NATASHA
You would make a great freshman class president, Terri.
TERRI
Thanks, but girl, look!
INSERT - POSTER
reading "Vote Abigail McClellan for Freshman Class President".
TERRI (CONT'D)
I'm toast.
KATIE
What do you mean?
TERRI
Abby's already calling the shots.
NATASHA
So what? You are capable of leading the school just as much as she is, if not more.
KATIE
Besides, we can help you with posters.
TERRI
But she's got the money though.
Natasha rolls her eyes.
Katie groans.
NATASHA
It doesn't matter.
Katie motions Terri and Natasha towards a classroom door.
KATIE
Guys!
TERRI/NATASHA
What?
KATIE
We need to get to class.
(beat)
We don't need to be late our first day.
TERRI
(groans)
Coming.
Terri, Katie, and Natasha wait near right by the classroom door.
CUT TO:
INT. CLASSROOM - TEN MINUTES LATER
Students file into the classroom one by one.
Katie, Natasha, and Terri quickly head to their seats.
Terri turns towards Natasha.
TERRI
Okay, I thought about what you said.
NATASHA
What do you mean?
TERRI
I will run.
NATASHA
That's awesome!
KATIE
(interrupts)
We can make posters.
The girls take out their notebooks and jot down notes with their pencils.
