Broadcast TV Top 20: Idol #4, Goldbergs Leaves Top 10

Empire is TV's #1 show

If you're joining us for the first time as a follower of TV ratings, then it's our job to tell you that the most telling information that is released to the public that indicates if a show will be cancelled or renewed is the A18-49 demo, which measures the approximate percentage of adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who are watching a given show live or in the next few hours. Here are the top 20 shows on broadcast, based on that demo. For convenience I've created four tables: overall, drama, comedy, and reality. Not sure where football falls in that, but spoiler alert: it's #1. All ratings through Tuesday, January 13.

As you can see, there are three new entries to this chart from when it was last updated: American Idol (#4), The Bachelor (#10), and Chicago Med (#18). Idol and The Bachelor, combined with a football-inflated Simpsons, sent The Goldbergs down from #10 to #12, and it doesn't look much like it'll be able to get back there anytime soon. Elsewhere, Supergirl, Blackish, and Chicago Fire were tied for 19th last time, and as is seen the latter is no longer on the list.
