TV Ratings 12/8/16: Pitch Finale Steady, Notorious Finale Low, ABC Christmas Specials Mediocre (UPDATED)

Thursday night provided some pretty weak ratings all around. Thursday Night Football was down from its game last week, but still performed well. CBS saw a major ratings decline at 8, due to not airing the Big Bang Theory, but The Great Indoors, Mom, and Pure Genius saw ratings increases anyway. On ABC, they had some mediocre results with Christmas specials compared to last week, but the Great American Baking Show actually held up pretty nicely despite a lead in of 7 tenths less. The Notorious series finale received a paltry 0.5, making it ABC's lowest rated show of the week. So that's something. Pitch's season (series?) finale received a 0.8, and aired behind a much-lower-than-last-year White Hot Holidays. On the CW, Legend's of Tomorrow retained little of its crossover boost, while Supernatural held on at 0.6.

Finals Update: Life in Pieces (+0.1) and Thursday Night Football (+1.9) adjusted up. Football Night in Kansas City (-0.7) adjusted down.

The New ABC Shows--How They're Doing According to Graphs

I figured this would be as good a time as ever to present to you the ratings of ABC's new shows according to graphs. I've made the graphs very simply so that you can get an overall sense of how they're doing.

Conviction
Conviction premiered in the Monday at 10pm time slot after Dancing with the Stars, and stayed there. That's not something you can say for any other show this decade. So, how's it doing? Not good. They're not giving it a backorder, meaning they most likely see financial benefits to airing a different show there in the spring instead.



American Housewife
American Housewife is most likely ABC's biggest surprise of the season; airing in an extremely tough time slot where the network has found little success in ever since they moved SHIELD, but American Housewife has shown an ability to grow from its lead-in or at least tie it on several occasions, and earned a backorder.




Speechless
While technically Speechless is higher-rated than American Housewife, one can make an argument either way as to which one is stronger. Regardless, Speechless is sandwiched between The Goldbergs and Modern Family, and holds a sizable portion of the former. The time slot year-to-year is down significantly, but ABC has launched another solid comedy. It's premiere was literally off-the-charts (see below).




Notorious
On the surface level, Notorious had a great time slot, airing after Grey's Anatomy (though Grey's in all fairness doesn't have a huge live audience, a large portion of its L+SD viewing is done same-day). When it came to promotion though, the network didn't seem to have a ton of confidence in the show, and we can see why just by looking at the graph. Which yes, is orange, your mind is not tricking you.



Designated Survivor
This high-profile political drama started off really well, at a 2.2 A18-49 L+SD rating at 10pm, but quickly dropped off from there. It still rates as ABCs #2 10pm show, though the trend on this show isn't quite as steady as the other ones.

TV Ratings 11/17/16: Football Lower, CBS Down, ABC Fall Finales rise (UPDATED!)

While ABC was happy with their Thursday night, CBS was probably not thrilled with their lineup's ratings. The Big Bang Theory started off the night down three tenths, The Great Indoors fell two, and Mom and Life in Pieces were down one. Pure Genius clung to a low 0.9. ABC's fall finales rose, with Murder tying a season high and Grey's rebounding from its drop last week. Thursday Night Football low in prelims, but will likely adjust up. Supernatural also rose a tenth.

TV Ratings 11/10/16: CBS rises, Fox, Supernatural & Grey's down (UPDATED)

CBS had a good night last night (well, except for Pure Genius). The Big Bang Theory rose three tenths, Mom rose two, and Life in Pieces and The Great Indoors rose one each. On NBC, all of their shows rose, but they were preempted, meaning they will likely receive greater downward adjustments than they usually do. Fox was down last night, with Pitch and Rosewood both hitting 0.7s. On ABC, Grey's Anatomy was down two tenths, while Notorious rose. Supernatural was also down a tenth of the CW.

FINALS Update: All of NBC's programming adjusted down. Life in Pieces also adjusted up.
