Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary results.

ABC said a not-so-heartfelt goodbye to drama 'Still Star-Crossed' (0.2). The series was steady with its last result and tied its low. As always, it lost to repeats of 'AFV' (0.3) and '20/20: In an Instant' (0.3).

CBS continued burning off 'Doubt' (0.2). It was up a tenth from last week's dreadful 0.1. It led into two hours of '48 Hours' (0.4), the other 46 hours were left unaired.

NBC had an original Dateline (0.5), with 0.4/0.6 half-hours, leading into a repeat of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.4).

FOX had repeats of their Wednesday and Thursday weak links, 'The F Word' (0.2) and 'Love Connection' (0.2).

Summer Renew/Cancel, Week 9: 'Salvation' Will See No Salvation

It's the eighth edition of the Summer Renew/Cancel! Two brand new shows premiered this week with dismal numbers for both, let's find out my initial predictions for both of them.

Certain to be Canceled:
N/A

Likely to be Canceled:
The Night Shift (0.7)
Zoo (0.6)
Salvation (0.7)
Hooten & the Lady (0.2)

Leans Cancellation:
N/A

Leans Renewal:
N/A

Likely to be Renewed:
N/A

Certain to be Renewed:
N/A

Fate Determined:
Still Star-Crossed (0.4, DE FACTO CANCELED, correct)
Downward Dog (0.7, CANCELED, correct)
The Carmichael Show (0.8, CANCELED, correct)

Yet to Premiere:
Somewhere Between (July 2017)
Midnight, Texas (July 2017)
Marlon (August 2017)
SNL Weekend Update Thursday (August 2017)

Salvation: Salvation had a huge lead-in for its premiere, with a a 1.9 Big Brother supporting it. However, as it often goes with post-BB scripted shows, Salvation did quite poorly. It had a rough 0.7 debut, putting it way behind the Candy Crush launch and a bit ahead of the Zoo season 3 launch. That's really bad, especially considering that Salvation is likely more expensive than fellow newbie Candy Crush. CBS can just try again next season, and they have no reason to renew this flop. It's already a LIKELY CANCELLATION, though it will avoid the Certain Cancellation category this week.

Hooten & the Lady: This British import made its American debut with just a 0.2 in the demo, retaining just 50% of its Penn & Teller lead-in. That's rough, even for cheap Summer filler on the CW. Whose Line? premiered to the same with half the lead-in, so there's really no excuse for Hooten's 0.2. It's so anemic that a repeat of its premiere was able to tie the original airing. The fact that it's likely quite cheap is keeping it from Certain Cancellation territory, so for now it is a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

Stay tuned next week for Midnight, Texas and Somewhere Between, and every Tuesday after that for my other Summer predictions.

Finals Update: 20/20: In an Instant (0.4), Doubt (0.2), and Still Star-Crossed (0.2) all adjusted down.

ABC's Still Star-Crossed (0.3) rose a tenth after last week's low-rated premiere and tied its final Monday airing after The Bachelorette. It may have benefited from a stronger lead-in from 20/20: In an Instant (0.5). The latter rose a tenth from last week.

At 8, CBS's Doubt (0.3) also rose a tenth from last week and led into two hours of 48 Hours (0.4).

NBC had a repeat of Little Big Shots: Forever Young (0.3) and a Dateline original (0.4).

FOX had low-rated Premier Boxing Champions (0.2).

Summer Renew/Cancel, Weeks 7 & 8: The 'Zoo' Is Likely to Be Shut Down

It's the seventh edition of the Summer Renew/Cancel, and a lot has happened in our week off. One more veteran show returns to the pack this week, so stay tuned for my initial prediction for it. Plus, find out which veteran series has been axed.

Certain to be Canceled:
N/A

Likely to be Canceled:
The Night Shift (0.7)
Zoo (0.6)

Leans Cancellation:
N/A

Leans Renewal:

Likely to be Renewed:

Certain to be Renewed:

Midnight, Texas (July 2017)
Salvation (July 2017)
Marlon (August 2017)
Hooten & the Lady (July 2017)
SNL Weekend Update Thursday (August 2017)

Zoo: Zoo premiered last week with a paltry 0.5 behind a 1.6 from Big Brother. There's no way to get around that. That's freaking awful. Even if it didn't have the largest lead-in available to it during CBS Summer, that's a rough data point. It doesn't get much better for it in week two, where it rose a tenth but had a much larger lead-in of 1.9 from Big Brother. That's roughly the same (awful) retention it had in week one. Needless to say, Zoo starts as LIKELY TO BE CANCELED.

The Night Shift: The Night Shift has done poorly this season, but at least it's ticked up in the weeks following its awful 0.6. That doesn't really change much for me, as it still doesn't look good for a renewal. Those 0.7s, however, have likely saved the Night Shift from entering Certain Cancellation territory anytime soon. It continues to be a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

The Carmichael Show: Despite being pretty stable in its third season, and doing relatively well (especially compared to last season), NBC has CANCELED their longest-running sitcom.

Stay tuned next week for initial prediction for Summer newbies Salvation and Hooten & the Lady, and every Tuesday after that for my Summer predictions.
