It's been a long time since our last CW Renew/Cancel, and The CW has begun to bring back its lineup after sitting out in the fall. Keep reading to see initial predictions for All American, Walker, Batwoman, Riverdale, and more!
All American: It was hard to imagine this when it premiered in 2018, but All American has turned out to be quite a hit for The CW. It grew a fanbase after being added to Netflix, and saw growth in season two thanks to these new viewers. That popularity has endured and even blossomed, with the show now being The CW's #2 series, up over 20% from season two. It's a bona fide hit, and it will obviously be back for a fourth season. It's a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
Charmed: It's only aired one episode so far this season, but things aren't looking great for Charmed. Its Live+Same-Day ratings aren't great, its retention from Batwoman is only so-so, and it doesn't seem nearly as popular as other CW shows, judging by its Parrot Analytics audience demand score. The CW is more willing than most networks to hand out renewals to low-rated shows that don't seem very popular. Charmed is in its third season, and many CW shows have ended at the four season mark. It seems likely that they'll let it get there, as well. It LEANS RENEWAL.
Walker: It doesn't seem like a good fit for The CW, but Walker is currently their #1 show. It certianly skews different than the average CW series, with over two million viewers for both episodes aired thus far. Bringing Jared Padelecki, star of Supernatural, back to the network worked out brilliantly for them in this case. There's no chance that they cancel a show doing so well, and it is a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
Legacies: The Thursday night staple, part of the Vampire Diaries franchise, isn't exactly drawing massive ratings, averaging a 0.17 in the Live+Same-Day 18-49 demo. Things look even worse when considering that its lead-in is Walker, averaging 0.36. The two shows aren't compatible at all, so it makes sense for Legacies to not see a boost from that larger lead-in. Its year-to-year trend is very uninspiring, with a nearly 40% drop from season two's ratings. However, it is seemingly still popular on streaming services and is part of an important franchise for The CW, so another season is a good bet. It's a LIKELY RENEWAL.
Batwoman: Oof. No show on The CW has crumbled in the ratings like this one, and it's not hard to see why. It went through a very well-publicized change of leads that included a completely new character becoming the lead of the show. It's not hard to imagine some fans bailing after the show went through something like that. Its 0.16 average is quite rough for a show that averaged 0.26 in season one, including a 0.47 premiere. It had already weakened by season's end, but it has plenty of time this season to see similar declines to the ones from season one. None of what I said sounds good for its future. However, I think it's quite likely to be back. Aside from The CW's addition to renewals, this show actually does seem to have some sort of a streaming audience, with an even higher audience demand than Live+Same-Day hit All American. If there's money to be made here, and there seems to be, CW won't cancel it. It's a LIKELY RENEWAL.
Riverdale: Its ratings on The CW are weak at this point, with only a 0.14 average for its first two episodes. That's even uglier when considering how much the show tends to drop off as the season goes on. Unlike Batwoman, it doesn't have any clear reason for its 59% year-to-year drop. However, the show remains one of The CW's most influential shows, being a pop culture phenomenon thanks to Netflix, despite the low ratings on its home network. Its audience demand is still massive, and there's no way The CW will drop the show before the show is ready to go out. Profits over ratings, always. It's a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
Nancy Drew: The ratings for this show are frankly embarrassing. It's rating worse than most cheap acquired shows that they aired in the fall. However, it clearly does well somewhere, given that its audience demand is solid and The CW is exploring a spinoff, ordering "Tom Swift" to pilot. They wouldn't be giving a spinoff to a show that doesn't make a lot of money for them, obviously. Therefore, it's a LIKELY RENEWAL, despite those awful ratings.
