EVAN, SCOTT, HECTOR, and AMANDA are all sitting in the waiting room, preparing to be interviewed for an entry-level job at a TV streaming service. A fifth person has been with the interviewer for the past hour.
EVAN looks over to SCOTT.
EVAN
Weren’t these things supposed to last 20-30 minutes?
SCOTT
That’s what I was told. Now I’m freaking out trying to prepare for an hour-long interview!
AMANDA
I don’t think any of us will have to worry about an hour-long interview. They’re very clearly gonna hire the guy who’s in there now. We’ll be lucky to get 10 minutes.
HECTOR
Yeah, that would be awfully lucky.
AMANDA
That’s a bad thing.
HECTOR
Yeah well like, I kinda forgot my interview was today.
AMANDA looks relieved, knowing she won’t have to compete with HECTOR for the job.
SCOTT
So I guess when they want me to tell them about myself I just rant on and on for 20 minutes.
EVAN
Good luck with that. I don’t think I have 20 minutes of material.
The interviewer returns to the waiting room with the person being interviewed, both still making small talk and laughing. The interviewer seems visibly shocked to see four people still in the waiting room.
INTERVIEWER
Oh wow, you guys are still here?
AMANDA
We got called in for an interview so…yeah. We are.
INTERVIEWER
Ah that’s a shame. Well thank you for your time but—
HECTOR
I didn’t change around my plans for today to make this interview for nothing!
INTERVIEWER
Fine. Everyone follow me.
HECTOR, AMANDA, SCOTT, and EVAN all follow the interviewer to his office.
INTERVIEWER
So tell me about yourselves.
AMANDA
I’m—
INTERVIEWER
Alright that’s about time, look, none of you are getting hired. We’re hiring the last guy.
HECTOR, AMANDA, SCOTT, and EVAN stare blankly at the interviewer. The interviewer lets out a loud sigh.
INTERVIEWER
Let me put it in a way you guys might understand. The last guy is…how do they say is, giving rizz.
HECTOR
That’s it, I’m outta here.
SCOTT
Thanks for wasting my time. You no longer have my business. I’m gonna log out of my sister’s account.
AMANDA
I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.
HECTOR, SCOTT, AMANDA, and EVAN leave.
SCOTT [to EVAN]
You didn’t say anything.
EVAN
Couldn’t think of anything. As I said, I have no material.
SCOTT
I’m Scott by the way.
EVAN
Evan.
AMANDA
I’m Amanda.
SCOTT, EVAN, and AMANDA look over to HECTOR.
HECTOR
Oh are we doing this? I’m Hector.
The interviewer rushes out to find them.
INTERVIEWER
Okay, I feel a little bad. I had this coupon stuffed away into one of my drawers. Enjoy dinner, on me. Place is right next door to our office building, you can’t miss it.
AMANDA tentatively takes the coupon.
AMANDA
Who wants to join me?
SCOTT, EVAN, and HECTOR all agree and walk to the restaurant. They are escorted to a table.
EVAN
Well that sucked.
HECTOR
Eh, I was planning on going here today anyways so I guess it worked out.
SCOTT
Yeah, but now we have no jobs.
EVAN
Think of it this way: sure, we all got humiliated and wasted our time, but—yeah I can’t think of anything good to come out of this either.
AMANDA
It’s so stupid, they should really have more organized hiring practices.
SCOTT
Right? I bet I could run a streaming service way better than anyone working there.
HECTOR
I have no idea what I’m gonna do after this.
EVAN
Yeah, losing out on a job interview like that is pretty defeating.
HECTOR
I mean tonight. Don’t mind me, just thinking out loud.
SCOTT
Seriously, how hard could it possibly be to start up a streaming service? I think we should do it.
HECTOR
Are you insane?! There’s no way we can run a streaming service. We couldn’t even get hired for entry-level positions at an existing one!
EVAN
I’m with Scott, I really don’t feel like applying for any more jobs after what just happened. I’m in.
HECTOR
I guess I do I need something to do tonight.
SCOTT
I mean, we’ll meet up some time after tonight.
HECTOR
Oh, whatever. Yeah I’m probably free then too.
AMANDA
Sorry but this is a terrible idea. Good luck, but I’m not joining you guys.
EVAN
What else do you have to do?
AMANDA pauses.
AMANDA
I guess nothing.
SCOTT
Then why aren’t you in?
AMANDA
Fine. But if this doesn’t take off right away then I’m bailing.
EVAN, SCOTT, HECTOR, and AMANDA exchange phone numbers so they can meet about starting up a streaming service. After they pay their bill, they part ways for the night.
