Dancing With the Stars Season 23 Episode 6 Review

Tonight is Latin Night, which has historically been one of my least favorite nights of the Dancing With the Stars season. Let's see if this week can change things.

Marilu Henner & Derek Hough's Cha-Cha

Marilu was pretty good this week. It wasn't quite as good as last week, but she was still very good. I think she really has what it takes to win this thing. But we shall see.
My Score: 9

Laurie Hernandez & Val Chmerkovskiy's

I don't know what happened to Laurie last week, but she had a strong week this week, so everything is fine now. This still wasn't her best dance, and I fear that she may be losing her frontrunner status, but it was still great.
My Score: 9

James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess's Rumba

James has surprised me this season. He's done really well, and he defied my expectations. This week was another solid week for him. You can tell that he practiced a lot this week, and put a lot of work into this. He was very good. But still not quite perfect. But so close.
My Score: 9

Terra Jole & Sasha Farber's Paso Doble

This was fun. I'm not sure that this is the outcome that they wanted for a Paso, but that's what it was. Terra did good, but it was far from her best dance. As Bruno said, the dance wasn't as sharp as it could have been.
My Score: 8
PS: The Paso is still evil.

Calvin Johnson & Lindsay Arnold's
Yikes. Dancing With the Stars did not do these two a favor having to perform an argentine Tango after  Jana and Gleb. Megatron still delivered, performing his best dance so far. Those lifts were so amazing. Unfortunately, the chemistry wasn't as good as Jana and Gleb. I think that it's impossible to match that.
My Score: 9

Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko's

I felt so uncomfortable watching this. They killed this dance. Everything about it was perfect. Also, WHAT THE HELL AMERICA? HOW ARE THEY IN JEOPARDY?
My Score: 10

Ryan Lochte & Cheryl Burke's Salsa

Ryan has consistently been at or near the bottom of my personal scoreboard each week. But he remains here, and has gotten better. Unfortunately, this wasn't great. It was good, but not great. He could be in jeopardy next week.
My Score: 7

Maureen McCormick & Artem Chigvintsev's Samba

Maureen was a great flamingo tonight. This was not her best dance, but she still did good. I'm glad that she stayed positive this week, and focused on getting her steps right.
My Score: 8

Amber Rose & Maks Chmerkovskiy's

Amber has consistently been one of my least favorite performances each week so far. That did not change this week, as she performed a good-but-not-great dance. I can't see her sticking around much longer.
My Score: 7

WORST OF THE NIGHT: Ryan Lochte
(DIS)HONORABLE MENTION: Terra Jole :(

DANCER OF THE NIGHT:  Jana Kramer
HONORABLE MENTION: Marilu Henner

My Rankings:
1- Jana Kramer
2- Marilu Henner
3- James Hinchcliffe

4- Calvin Johnson
5- Laurie Hernandez
6- Maureen McCormick
7- Terra Jole
8- Ryan Lochte

Elimination:
The episode starts out by revealing that Ryan and Cheryl are somehow safe. They inform us that Terra, Marilu, and James are safe, while Amber is in Jeopardy.  Next, Maureen and Laurie are safe, while Jana and Calvin are in Jeopardy.  Jana and Gleb are then saved, meaning Amber and Calvin are the Bottom 2. Amber is unsurprisingly eliminated.

This was a pretty good episode. It wasn't as amazing as last week, but it was still enjoyable.
Grade: B+
Score: 8.5/10
