My 2 CentsPremieres: May 27
Genre: Young adult animation
Starring: Zerocalcare
Synopsis: Zero and Wild Boar run a small bar, but financial troubles and misunderstandings put them both under pressure -- just as a figure from the past returns.
Going For It
Zerocalcare's first two Netflix animated series, 2021's Tear Along the Dotted Line and 2023's This World Can't Tear Me Down, were positively received among critics. My 2 Cents, or Due Spicci in Zerocalcare's native Italian, will be the third animated series the cartoonist created for Netflix centered around the character of Zero.
Going Against It
There's been very little international promotion for My 2 Cents. It will instead premiere the same week as the second seasons of Bad Thoughts and The Four Seasons.
The Precedent
Tear Along the Dotted Line and This World Can't Tear Me Down didn't find mass popularity. My 2 Cents will more likely fill a niche than become a broad hit for Netflix.
Day 1 Prediction: Below #10 on Netflix
Star City
Premieres: May 29
Premieres: May 29
Genre: Science fiction
Starring: Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O'Casey
Synopsis: A bold new chapter inspired by the critically acclaimed space-race drama ["For All Mankind"
, "Star City" is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race - when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward.
Going For It
Star City's series premiere will drop at the same time as For All Mankind's Season 5 finale, allowing fans of Apple TV's longtime space drama to jump right into the spinoff. The miniseries also has potential to pick up new viewers for the IP, as For All Mankind premiered as one of Apple TV's first originals back in 2019 when the subscriber base was much smaller.
Going Against It
Star City's Buzz Score currently sits at a 1.2 on Television Stats, a far cry from For All Mankind's 10.0. While it will rise once the show premieres, this does not present as a show poised to break out.
The Precedent
For All Mankind is only moderately popular for Apple TV, peaking at #4 on the platform's What's Trending on Streaming chart in Season 5 through its first eight episodes. Star City would have to exceed For All Mankind's popularity to secure a top 3 peak. Star City's title not having obvious ties to For All Mankind could prove a blessing or a curse.
Day 1 Prediction: #6 on Apple TV
