Instinct Season 1 Episode 4 Review

In this episode, Dylan and Lizzie investigate a chemical explosion on a subway in Central Park, and Dylan's father's FBI team also work on the case. The case sounds interesting this week, and I like how we get to meet Dylan's family member. This should be a good one.

The episode begins with Lizzie and Dylan going to a subway to investigate a bombing, that they immediately know was done on purpose. The passengers on the train were in between stations for a long time. They then find a person who survived the explosion, but he stole things from the victims. We then learn that there was a French diplomat on the train. It is being treated like terrorism. Dylan doesn't think that this is a terrorist attack. They find one of the victims mates, who the victim, Josh, was having an affair with. She said that someone knocked into her, and that guy then jumped onto the train with a backpack, but then quickly got off. We then learn that there was an explosion at a carousel in Central Park. There were explosives in the carousel area, and one person died. Dylan's father then shows up at the carousel area.

Dylan's father is offering to have them back on the case, and Lizzie wants to be back on the subway case. Dylan thinks that his father didn't read his book, which makes Dylan upset. Dylan, Lizzie, Andy, and Dylan's father are out at dinner together. While they're at dinner, Dylan and Lizzie need to go to a hotel, where there was a fire and a murder of a man. The murderer ripped up the hotel furniture before burning it. Dylan realizes that the targets were actually the carousel horse and the hotel room, not the bodies. Dylan thinks that the room had personal meaning to the man, who was destroying old memories. Both Dylan and Lizzie agree that all of these deaths were not on purpose, and the killer meant to damage the subway car, carousel horse, and hotel room instead. Lizzie calls Dylan's father to find out what chemical was in the backpack in the subway car, and it was chlorine, which was used to destroy the subway car, horse, and hotel room. This just proves that the subway car incident was not meant to kill people. Something on the man who was killed in the hotel room's body leads Dylan and Lizzie to find a man, who was friends with Kyle Adams, the man who assisted Dylan and Lizzie at the carousel, with a horse in Manhattan.

There is a picture of the horse that was blown up next to the friends horse, and it turns out that it's Kyle's horse, but he has the day off, since it is his birthday. It turns out that one of Kyle's co-workers, was one of the men murdered. Dylan and Lizzie go to Kyle's apartment, where they find drawings of all the crime scenes. It turns out that Kyle's father committed suicide 28 years ago on that day, which is also Kyle's birthday. It turns out that Kyle left the objects at the crime scenes, as opposed to them being found there. Since Kyle's father jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, Kyle will try to blow it up. Dylan tries to talk with Kyle, and he says that his fathers death was not his fault, and he is not like his father. Dylan tries to tell him that he shouldn't kill all of the innocent people who are just trying to have fun and enjoy life. Kyle then commits suicide by jumping off of the building.

This episode was really good. I loved the case, and I liked the aspect that the people weren't the targets, which seems to be the case in police procedurals often. The way that the three crime scenes tied together really interested me as well. And lastly, Alan Cunning was really great when he was trying to prevent Kyle from blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge. That scene was easily the best of the episode. My only complaint about this episode would be that we didn't get to know Dylan's father enough. I hope that he comes back in a later episode.

Instinct Season 1 Episode 3 Review

In this episode, Dylan and Lizzie investigate a murder of a young man who left his family to come to New York City, and they are lead to a series of possible suspects for the murder. I was really pleased with the first two episodes of this series, and it has been my favorite new show this year. I'm really excited for this episode, and I hope that it doesn't disappoint me.

The episode begins with Lizzie's sister, who has alcohol issues, coming to her house just before she has a murder to get to. The murder is the murder of a 19 year old, who moved to NYC from upstate NY. He was murder by a sociopath. The parents of the kid said that he kept secrets from them, and Lizzie and Dylan find a box with black and white popsicle sticks. In Caleb's NYC apartment, a kid was hiding in the closet. This kids alibi checks out. It is revealed that Caleb's girlfriend, Nicky, lives at a place with a guard. Dylan realizes that Caleb played the piano, and they go meet with the piano teacher. The teacher says that he went to NYC to study piano and apply to a very good music school. They also get a picture of Nicky, and they go to a shelter and are told that Nicky was hanging out with someone named Jean, and they were always arguing over a photographer.

They go to the photographers house, and they find him dead for 48 hours, so he couldn't have killed Caleb. They think that Jean could've been angered that Nicky was dating them both, and he killed both guys. Dylan thinks that this killer is a narcissist. While Lizzie is trying to help her sister, who got drunk and vomited, Dylan and Lizzie find Nicky and Jean and confront then. Nicky claims that she cannot remember anything. Dylan gets a doctor to assess Nicky's condition, and she leads Dylan to believe that Jean murdered both Caleb and the photographer. Lizzie says that no trace of Jean was found at the crime scene, and Dylan thinks that Nicky is the killer, since she is creating the narrative for this case.

Dylan then talks with Nicky, and he says that nothing at the crime scenes traced to Jean, only Nicky. Dylan tells Lizzie that she has been faking the amnesia, and she definitely did something in the past because she wouldn't start with this big of a murder. Lizzie wants some form of evidence. Also, Dylan tells Lizzie to stop enabling her sister. Lizzie then goes back to her house and tells her sister that she needs to stop drinking if she wants to stay with her. It turns out that Nicky's name is not Nicky, it is Amber. Also, Nicky murdered someone named Brenden in her old town, so this isn't her first murder. They arrest Nicky, and she says that she killed them because they didn't care about her. Lizzie tells Dylan that her sister left without a note. At the restaurant, she sees her sister, and her sister tells her that she's been going to meetings. She tells Lizzie that she wants to start over and keep going to meetings.

I really enjoyed this episode. The case was interesting, and I really got into it. I loved the scenes where Nicky was faking amnesia, and I also liked how Dylan was officially partners with Lizzie. The scene with Caleb's parents watching him play piano on the video was also really touching. I also liked how we got to meet Lizzie's sister and see her story, which was really interesting. I hope to see her again in future episodes. My only issue with this episode was the scenes at the bar with Dylan and his husband. I did not connect with those scenes at all.

Instinct Season 1 Episode 2 Review

In this episode, a venture capitalist was murdered, and his body was displayed in an extremely unusual way. Dylan has also returned to teaching, so Lizzie needs to call him up to help with the case, since this case seems to fit his abilities well. I enjoyed last weeks premiere very much, so I'm really excited for this episode. I'm sure that it will be great as well.

The episode begins with a venture capitalist being shot with a bow and arrow, and his body was displayed in an unusual position, with a piece of bread in his mouth. This was following a fight with the wife of a restaurant owner, who claimed that he was trying to take the restaurant. While Dylan is in a meeting with his editor, he gets a call from Lizzie, asking him for help on this case. Dylan thinks that this position means that he was killed as punishment. He says that he will help with the case.

When Lizzie and Dylan are meeting with the widower, the widower's friend comes to pull her out of the meeting. Lizzie then tells Dylan that the friend and her husband where in debt to Trever, the venture capitalist. Trever was going to take the restaurant if he was not paid by the next week. Trever provided financing for the restaurant, and he was bound to take the restaurant and farm. We then meet the chef, Hallie, who reveals that she does not like Trever. The chef also is yelling at the employees. The chef also has been arrested, and she has a violent record. The chef also has a blow up when she doesn't win a competition in the kitchen.

It turns out that Trever had a restraining order against the chef, but the chef claims that she threatened to do it to him first, which is why he filed it. As for the assault, the chef claims that the guy didn't want a women in his kitchen, causing her to hit him. They find out that Trever was killed with a 19th century arrow, which Dina likes. They drive to the farm, and she reveals that her and Roman are no longer married. They ask her if she is an archer, but she says that she hasn't shot in a long time. Also, Dylan's friend calls, and says that if the widower wanted access to Trever's finances, then he needed to be dead. They then go to the restaurant, and they find the chef dead, in an awkward position. They remove her as a suspect.

They go to the farm to say that the chef is dead, and it is revealed that Roman has been there all night, while the wife is at the restaurant. The widower says that Roman and his wife aren't likely suspects, and that Trever and she were adapting a baby. The phrase "white night" leads Dylan to think that Gwen, the farm hand, is really protective of Roman, so Dylan thinks that she killed Trever and the chef. Roman considers Gwen to be family, and he calls Gwen judgmental. She also hated Trever and Hallie, so that is why she murdered them, and she wanted to protect Roman. Dylan thinks that Gwen resents Roman's wife and child. They go to the farm to stop Gwen and save the wife and daughter.

Lizzie then sees Gwen hanging out with the daughter, and Dylan finds Nora, the wife, locked in the barn. Gwen then walks into the barn, and Lizzie climbs into the barn, where Nora is, so she can save Nora. Meanwhile, Dylan tries to talk to Gwen, which would give Lizzie more time to rescue Nora. Lizzie rescues Nora, while Dylan cuffs Gwen. After the case, Dylan and Lizzie agree that they would be good partners.

I really enjoyed this episode. The case was interesting, and I liked the chemistry between Dylan and Lizzie. I also liked the creativity that the writers had in this episode. The case was really creative, and the murder of the chef was a twist that I didn't see coming. Also, I liked how Dylan was able to think creatively when interpreting what happened in this case. The only thing that I would say is that the case felt a little slow at some points, but besides that, it was a great second episode that didn't disappoint me.

Score: 9/10

Instinct Pilot Review

I've been looking forward to Instinct for a while. I like the concept of catching a serial killer in the busiest city in the country. I like how the lead is a teacher who comes back to the NYPD because of his book. I also think that this show has a great cast with Alan Cumming, who is an amazing actor, and Whoopi Goldberg, who is both talented and funny. I hope that this show doesn't disappoint me because I am really excited for it.

This episode starts with a late teen boy being killed with drugs by a man who called the boy, Dino, a sinner. The killer left the Jack of Diamonds card next to Dino's body. We then meet Dr. Dylan Reinhart, who is currently teaching a class on abnormal behavior at UPENN. After his class is over, he sees a woman standing by, and he automatically knows that she is a detective. She introduces herself as Detective Lizzie Needham, and they go have lunch. She then introduces the case, and it is revealed that Dr. Reinhart's book was sent to the homesite division before the killing. We see how the King of Clubs was sent the day before Dino's murder. The killer seems to be using cards with the murders.

He then meets with his editor, played by Whoopi Goldberg, who told him that his newest book was flat and heartless. She suggests that he brings his old self back and takes a break from teaching. At the meeting with Dino's father, Dr. Reinhart gets yelled at by Detective Needham for saying a possible theory to the dad.  The next victim was stabbed many times by the serial killer, and Dr. Reinhart and Detective Needham tie this murder to the Jack of Diamonds card, since two diamonds which form the shape of an hourglass, which could mean truth and money. Also, the victims friends called him by the name of Jack.

When Reinhart and Needham were meeting with the mayor, who was very disapproving of the serial killers existence in NYC, Reinhart thought that the murders were because of revenge. Also, we find out that the number of stabs on one of the victims is equal to the number of cards in a deck, which relates to the cards next to the body. Then, they meet with the judge of the case of one of the victims. He says that he thought that the man was guilty, but his opinion didn't matter, since he had to follow the book. All of the potential connections between murders go away.

The third murder is a couple who was having an affair in a hotel. The Queen of Hearts is the card that is left on the bodies. It is then revealed that Dino was dealing drugs, but there is still no connection to the other murders. The serial killer then aims to shoot Reinhart and Needham, but he gets away before they could catch him. One connection that it formed between all of the victims is that they all committed crimes, and they all were not convicted. Judge Brooks presided over all of these cases, and the dealer knows that they were guilty and wants justice.

The next piece to the puzzle is figuring out who the Queen of Hearts is. While Reinhart and Needham were sitting, she says that her fiance was shot in the line of duty a year ago. Gary is her dog. After, they realize that the Queen of Hearts is a doctor charged with vehicular manslaughter, and she was found not guilty in Brook's court. The victim barely survived, and the card that is left is Joker. They think he's going after the judge next, but it's actually Elliot. The killer is there, and Reinhart tries to convince him to stop, since his message is out already. Needham gets shot, but she manages to survive, while the killer is taken out.

I really enjoyed the premiere. Cumming was really good, and the case was very interesting and unpredictable. I liked how the show went deep into the characters lives, and I also enjoyed the symbolism use with cards. The two leads fit well together, and I also enjoyed both of their backgrounds. I look forward to watching the rest of this series, as the pilot got it off to a really strong start.
