The squad of the 99 have reached the end of their watch. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the long-running Fox-turned-NBC sitcom that has garnered critical acclaim and a cult following, will end with its next season. The series hasn't been a strong performer in Live+Same-Day ratings, but is a massive performer on digital platforms that has made it one of the most profitable shows on NBC. After Fox canceled the series back in 2018, after a five-season run, NBC quickly saved the show, which was produced by Universal from the very start. It saw a small rise in the ratings in its first NBC season, though by its second NBC season, it became a weaker performer (though still solid by NBC comedy standards). Season eight was set to premiere in fall 2020, but was delayed due to numerous reasons, including having to re-write the season to address police brutality amid the summer 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. The eighth and final season, which will run for only ten episodes, has been delayed even further now and will air in the 2021-22 television season. This announcement is part in a line of important, long-running NBC comedies to end, following the 2020 finales of The Good Place and Will & Grace and Superstore, which ends its run in March 2021. Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero and Joe Lo Truglio star in the series.

Changes from Last Time
-Rosewood upgraded from "Watching" to "Certain to be Renewed"
-Brooklyn 9-9 upgraded from "Likely to be Renewed" to "Certain to be Renewed"
-Scream Queens downgraded from "Likely to be Renewed" to "Watching"
-Grandfathered downgraded from "Watching" to "Likely to be Cancelled"
-The Last Man On Earth downgraded from "Watching" to "Likely to be Cancelled"
-The Grinder downgraded from "Likely to be Cancelled" to "Certain to be Cancelled"
Why is Rosewood "Certain to be Renewed"?
Even though Rosewood's numbers can be a bit deceiving because of the Empire pre-tune in the final half-hour, FOX is not really in a position to call it quits on a show that regardless delivers some of
their best ratings. I think this show next season will either be paired with or take over for Bones.
Why is Brooklyn 9-9 "Certain to be Renewed"?
Brooklyn 9-9 is in its third season, and just one away from syndication. Even though it's not an in-house production, the ratings are good enough for FOX to keep it around and try to revive the Tuesday comedy block around it.
Why is The Last Man On Earth "Likely to be Cancelled"?
Even though its ratings aren't terrible, per say, I do think that The Last Man On Earth will be cancelled. One reason is that ratings aren't necessarily good, either, and is far away from syndication (four seasons won't get it there either considering they do shorter seasons). But the main reason is that executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (I can't help but think that Will Forte's
character Phil Miller came from their names) have a new show, Son of Zorn, with a series commitment on FOX. The party live-action, partly animated show seems fit for Sundays, and stars Forte's fellow SNL alum, Jason Sudeikis, who coincidentally or not currently plays a recurring role on Last Man. I can't see Lord and Miller doing double-duty, and this feels like a new high-concept FOX project where they are starting over with a different SNL alum.
Tuesday Update: How are the New Shows Doing?
Scream Queens is performing a full four tenths below its estimated number needed to satisfy the ad rate. The Grinder is doing three tenths less, and Grandfathered two tenths less. I can't say those are particularly pleasing numbers--nor is the fact that all three have gone fractional on one or more occasions. The Grinder, no matter how you look at it, is Certain to be Cancelled in my book. FOX simply doesn't need to renew a show that is already posting 0.7s, its lowest-rated comedy, and won't get much better unless it surges behind Brooklyn 9-9 in the spring. The same can mostly be said about Grandfathered--unless it surges behind New Girl, it will probably be cancelled. But then again, will FOX want to renew more than just one of their Tuesday comedies? They could renew New Girl, but it smells like a final season to me. It may depend on their pilots, but I just don't think Grandfathered's ratings are cutting it right now and advertisers will want to buy spots on a show that is guaranteed fractional. But at least it's doing better than The Grinder.
Finally, on Scream Queens, the only reason why it is place in the Watch column right now is because it performs relatively well in W18-34. FOX was probably hoping to find a show that appealed to the New Girl/Mindy Project W18-34 audience in the Tuesday at 9 spot, and Scream Queens just hasn't
done enough of it. Then again, it's one of the only shows on broadcast television that can say it has the ability to rate higher amongst W18-34 than A18-49, and that's a hard demographic to reach.

Ratings Premiere Predictions: Brooklyn 9-9 and The Last Man On Earth
The Ratings Junkie

The Ratings Junkie
Finally, the last Ratings Premiere Predictions segment about Sunday shows. I figured it would be fitting to post them on such a day. Here goes:
Brooklyn 9-9
Network: FOX
Time Slot: Sunday at 8:30
Competition: NFL Football, Madam Secretary, Once Upon A Time
Lead-in: The Simpsons
Lead-out: Family Guy
2015 Finale: 1.1 A18-49
2014 Premiere: 2.6 A18-49
2013 Premiere: 2.6 A18-49 (Tuesday series premiere)
Ok, so Brooklyn 9-9 isn't exactly lead-in independent. Going into this season, FOX really had nothing else in the live-action comedy department with potential to grow, so naturally they gave it a time slot upgrade. But I also consider this time slot upgrade to be a downgrade for both Bob's Burgers, which was relegated to the 7pm hour, and Family Guy, which was cursed with a very incompatible lead-in in terms of style. Anyways, what looks to be a breakout sophomore hit in the fall turned into FOX's failed project by the spring. In the long run, The Simpsons did not help it out, and it didn't exactly help its fellow Sunday shows out either. Despite seeing some very high numbers in the fall, very few of them stuck around when it wasn't inflated by The Simpsons, which in turn was inflated by football. This can be seen that its season 2 is somehow down from its 2014, Tuesday finale, which had a 1.3 A18-49 rating.
But it has football in its favor again, so I can't be too pessimistic here, even though I think it would have been smarter to air Bob's Burgers, Bordertown, or even The Last Man On Earth (which does have potential to grow) here.
Range: 1.7-2.9
Prediction: 2.2
The Last Man On Earth
Network: FOX
Time Slot: Sunday at 9:30
Competition: NFL Football, The Good Wife, Blood and Oil, various cable
Lead-in: Family Guy
Lead-out: None
2015 S1 Finale: 1.4 A18-49
2015 S1 Premiere: 2.4 A18-49
I truly think that The Last Man On Earth has a chance to grow into a hit next season. FOX is streaming the entire first season, which ended on a massive cliffhanger, online, and star Will Forte is expected by many to at least be nominated for an Emmy (something rare for a non-cable show not named Modern Family or The Big Bang Theory). Co-star Kristen Schaal is also expected by some to be a dark horse contender. Or they'll just give it to Julia Louis-Dreyfus again.
Kristen Schaal stars on both The Last Man On Earth and Bob's Burgers, both of which have received terrible scheduling treatment this season. FOX announced that the former was to air after Family Guy, but in the first part of the series almost never gave it such a lead-in. Instead, they would double up on episodes, making it look like a burnoff. Many people did not expect much coming into the show, which could explain why everything in the first season was so fast-paced. But with it guaranteed that The Last Man On Earth is getting paired with Family Guy for its season premiere, I expect numbers much higher than it left us on. Despite having a harder time slot, I can see The Last Man On Earth edging out Brooklyn 9-9.
Range: 1.8-2.6
Prediction: 2.3
