The group is in the living room.
EDISON
So, what’s everyone’s Thanksgiving plans?
MEGAN
Paige is going to my parent’s house.
PAIGE
Except this time, she won’t be pretending to be dating you.
EDISON
Andrew?
ANDREW
Oh, I’ll probably just microwave some pizza rolls and watch a movie.
EDISON
Sarah?
SARAH
Dinner with the family.
MEGAN
(To Edison and Brittaney)
What about you two?
BRITTANEY
We are eating at my parent’s place.
EDISON
Yep, gonna meet her parents for the first time.
ANDREW
Wait, you haven’t met her parents yet?
EDISON
We’ve been busy. Besides, what better time to meet new family then during the holidays.
THANKSGIVING DAY
INT. CAR - DAY
Edison and Brittaney pull up in front of Brittaney’s house. It Is huge almost mansion like.
EDISON
Holy- Britt, are you rich?
BRITTANEY
Um, kinda. My dad owns a software company.
EDISON
Woah. This is gonna be so much fun.
BRITTANEY
Edison, before we go in, there is something you should know.
EDISON
I knew it, your parents are racist.
BRITTANEY
No. I didn’t tell them you’re the father.
EDISON
I’m sorry what?
BRITTANEY
They don’t know you’re the father.
EDISON
What the hell Britt? Do they know you’re pregnant?
BRITTANEY
Of course, they do.
EDISON
Then why didn’t you tell them about me? Wait, are you embarrassed of me?
BIRTTANEY
Of course not it’s just… my father will kill you if he finds out.
EDISON
What’s he going to say when he sees his grandson.
BRITTANEY
Then we’ll tell him. For now, you’re… just the guy I’m dating.
EDISON
(Sigh)
Okay fine but you owe me.
INT. MANSISON - DAY
Brittaney and Edison enter the house. Brittaney’s mom Shirly greets them.
SHIRLY
Ahhhhhh you made it! My goodness you’ve gotten big.
BRITTANEY
Mother!
SHIRLY
Relax, I was big when I had you. You must be Edison.
EDISON
Yes ma’am.
Brittaney’s dad HARRY enters.
HARRY
There’s my girl!
BRITTANEY
Hi Dad.
They hug.
BRITTANEY
Dad, this is Edison.
Edison extends his hand and Harry shakes it.
HARRY
Nice to meet you.
EDISON
You too sir.
SHIRLY
Dinner’s almost ready. Britt, can you help me with the stuffing.
Britt and Shirly leave.
HARRY
Care for a drink?
EDISON
Um yeah.
INT. HOUSE - DAY
Andrew finishes microwaving a tray of pizza rolls. Sarah enters the house.
ANDREW
I thought you were eating with your family.
SARAH
My family decided to go on a cruise… without me.
ANDREW
Damn. Sorry. Want a pizza roll?
Sarah looks at the tray and takes one and eats it.
SARAH
I’d forgotten how well you actually cook these.
ANDREW
The key is to cook them longer than what the package says.
They smile at each other.
SARAH
So, what movie did you decide to watch?
ANDREW
Spider-Man Marathon.
SARAH
Before No Way Home.
ANDREW
You remember.
SARAH
You and Edison wouldn’t stop talking about the first trailer for a month.
ANDREW
Yeah. Do you… want to watch?
SARAH
Well, seeing as my plans no longer exist, yes.
ANDREW
Great.
They sit on the couch.
INT. MANSION - DAY
Harry and Edison step into his office. On the table, is an old west style revolver. Harry walks over to a liquor cart and pours two glasses. He hands one to Edison.
EDISON
Thank you, sir.
Edison looks at the gun.
HARRY
Belonged to an ancestor of mine. He used it to kill a man that cat called his wife.
EDISON
Seems like an overreaction.
HARRY
This gun has been passed down. Used only to kill those who wronged our family.
EDISON
Cool.
HARRY
How long have you and Britt been together?
EDSION
Uh, well… it’s kinda hard to explain.
HARRY
Do you know who the father is?
EDISON
Uhhhhh…
HARRY
It’s not Paul is it?
EDISON
No.
HARRY
Good. After what he did to her I almost used the gun. Well, whoever it is, I’d like to meet him. I’m gonna be a grandad. Even though it’s not under normal circumstances.
EDISON
Well, sir… I uhhhhh am the father.
Harry slams his drink on the desk.
HARRY
I knew it!
EDISON
What?
HARRY
You did this to my Britt.
EDISON
I thought you said-
HARRY
She said you were just friends but you…
Harry opens the glass case and grabs the revolver.
EDISON
No wait, I really love your daughter. She means everything to me.
BRITTANEY
Edison?
Edison turns around. Brittany and her mom are standing in the doorway.
HARRY
It’s him isn’t it. He’s the father.
BRITTANEY
I… yes. Yes he is and so far… He’s doing a good job.
Edison and Brittaney smile at each other.
BRITTANEY
Dad, why do have the family gun?
INT. HOUSE - DAY
Andrew and Sarah are on the couch.
SARAH
Just how many of these movies are there?
ANDREW
Don’t tell me you're tired? We binged watched Grey’s Anatomy together.
SARAH
That was different.
ANDREW
Uh huh.
They smile at each other. Real smiles. As if everything that has happened to them in the past couple of months never happened.
But it did. And they realize that. Their smiles cease and they resume watching the movie.
EXT. MANSION - NIGHT
Edison, Brittaney and her parents stand outside her house. Brittaney hugs her parents and goes to her car.
EDISON
Sir, I just wanted you to know… I will take of them. I promise.
Harry nods.
HARRY
I hope so.
Harry hands Edison the old revolver.
HARRY
Like I said, it’s been passed down to all the men in the family.
Edison takes the gun and smiles at Harry. He goes to the car and he and Brittaney drive off.
