During the last update, we saw a few shows jump into more positive territory. After that update, only two shows (All Rise and Tommy) remained as Toss-Ups. Since we want to make sure every show has a prediction, both of those shows now have official predictions.
After spending nearly all season as Likely to be Cancelled, All Rise is getting an official prediction of renewal. Nothing in its ratings trajectory makes it look like a renewal, but CBS seems to love the show. Tonight it will air a special COVID-19 online episode. Additionally, CBS passed on its highly discussed lawyer pilot, The Lincoln Lawyer. For whatever reason, both of those things make me think All Rise is headed toward a renewal.
As for Thursday night drama, Tommy, its official prediction is cancellation. The series premiere was rather ugly with a .44, but it grew from that point and looked more reasonable over the last few weeks. The star pedigree of Edie Falco certainly helps too. Despite that, a .75-ish in L+7 is still nothing to cheer about in todays television landscape. It ultimately looks like Tommy will get the short end of the stick.
Overall, CBS already announced the ending of four dramas, so it seems like they are set for dramas next season. Throw in the cancellation of Tommy and five dramas ending sounds about right. There is no need to end anything else. They will likely cancel one of the comedies, and as mentioned before, Carol's Second Act will come up short.
What are your thoughts? Is there a surprise cancellation coming from CBS? Is All Rise really going to be renewed? Check back throughout the next two weeks for updates. Once all decisions are announced, we will do a final breakdown of our predictions and wrap-up for the season.
