Thursday TV Ratings 3/25/21: Superstore Rises for Series Finale, Call Me Kat Slips for Finale, Greys Anatomy and Station 19 Tick Down (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Cloud 9 permanently shut down last night, with the series finale of NBC sitcom 'Superstore' (0.5/0.5) tying its week-ago rating for an hour-long farewell. Compared to recent NBC series finales, 'The Good Place (0.7) had a minor uptick while 'Will & Grace' (0.5) actually lost a tenth. Although 'Superstore' limped to the finish line this past season, the series deservers major praise for consistently garnering strong numbers for the five years prior. A repeat of 'SVU' (0.4) and a steady 'Dateline' (0.4) closed out a quiet evening for the peacock network. On ABC, 'Station 19' (0.7) and 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.9) shed a tenth apiece, but 'A Million Little Things' clung to last week's 0.5 rating in the 10pm slot. Fox's 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.8) remained in season high territory, but the 'Call Me Kat' finale (0.5) and 'Last Man Standing' (0.4) lost a tick. While a decline on finale night doesn't bode well for 'Kat', it did manage to avoid matching its low or creating a new one. CBS had encores of 'Young Sheldon' (0.4), 'B Positive' (0.4), 'Mom' (0.4), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.3), and 'Clarice' (0.2). The CW had a 'Harry & Meghan' special (0.1) that couldn't hold a candle to their Oprah interview from early March. The royal dud was followed by a stable 'Legacies' (0.1).

Finals Update: Superstore at 8 PM (+0.1), Last Man Standing (+0.1) and Station 19 (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Mom (-0.1) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/18/21: The Unicorn Ends Down, Hell’s Kitchen, Call Me Kat and Last Man Standing Rise, Grey’s Anatomy Steady Behind Down Station 19 (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC began their night in rough fashion as 'Station 19' (0.7) lost two-tenths from its week-ago return. 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.9) held steady from there while 'A Million Little Things' (0.5) managed to pick up a tenth. Fox had a surprisingly strong evening as 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.8) and 'Call Me Kat' (0.6) each rose by two-tenths, both shows reaching heights they haven't seen since January. This resurgence comes just a week after they fell to nasty, new lows (0.6/0.4). 'Last Man Standing' (0.5) inched up at the end of the lineup. On NBC, 'Superstore' (0.4) perked up slightly after its awful performance from last week (0.35), with its series finale right around the corner. The seasoned comedy was followed by a repeat of itself (0.3), an 'SVU' encore (0.3), and a rising 'Dateline' (0.4). After being preempted last week, CBS's 'The Unicorn' (0.4/0.4) closed out its second season with a one-hour finale. The struggling sitcom shed two-tenths from its previous installment but was able to avoid hitting a new low. 'Unicorn' was surrounded by reruns of 'Young Sheldon' (0.5/0.5) and 'Clarice' (0.2). 'Walker' (0.3) gained a tenth on the CW as 'Legacies' (0.1) remained even.

Finals Update: Station 19 (+0.1), Grey's Anatomy (+0.1) and Superstore (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/11/21: Grey’s Anatomy Slips Below 1.0 for the First Time, Young Sheldon, Superstore & Call Me Kat Among Many Shows Down Behind President Biden Address (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: In theory, airing an address by President Biden in the 8pm slot should give the programs after it a sizable boost in the ratings. That idea didn't hold any water last night as most shows struggled to keep it together. ABC led the way with the returns of 'Station 19' (0.8), 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.8), and 'A Million Little Things' (0.4). When compared to their winter finales, 'Little Things' was down by one-tenth, 'Station' down by two, and 'Grey's' down by three. CBS's sitcom block also had a rough time as 'Young Sheldon' (0.7) and 'Mom' (0.5) each shed two-tenths. In-between the two, 'B Positive' (0.6) only dropped by one. 'Clarice' (0.3) found itself hitting a new low in the 10pm hour.

On NBC, 'Superstore' (0.3) fell into disastrous territory, posting its lowest rating yet. A repeat of 'SVU' (0.3) and an abysmal 'Dateline' original (0.2) followed suit. Over on Fox, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.6) and 'Call Me Kat' (0.4) each inched down, but 'Last Man Standing' (0.5) actually managed to rise. 'Last Man' was the only show on one of the big 4 networks to make any significant gain, garnering its strongest rating since early January. Unaffected by political matters as usual, The CW's 'Walker' (0.3) rose a tenth while 'Legacies' (0.1) was flat. The Biden address itself scored a 0.8 rating on ABC and CBS, putting the two networks in a virtual tie. NBC and Fox also matched each other by posting identical 0.5 ratings.

Finals Update: ABC's President Biden Address (+0.1), Grey's Anatomy (+0.1), Clarice (+0.1), Superstore (+0.1) and Dateline NBC (+0.1) adjusted up. Last Man Standing (-0.1) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/4/21: Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and The Chase End Down, Superstore Down in Return to 8, Mom, The Unicorn and Clarice Steady Behind Down B Positive (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The 8-episode run of 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.7) ended with a new series low on ABC, down a tenth from last week's broadcast. 'Wheel' initially found itself in strong territory but never rose above the 1.0 threshold past early January. The two-hour finale of 'The Chase' (0.5/0.4) followed right after, with the game show garnering its lowest rating yet at 9 and then hitting another new low at 10. Needless to say, both programs left a particularly dreadful final impression. CBS suffered some minor slippage with 'Young Sheldon' (0.9) and 'B Positive' (0.6) but 'Mom' (0.7), 'The Unicorn' (0.5), and 'Clarice' (0.4) all tied their previous showings. With 'Mr. Mayor' out of the way, NBC's 'Superstore' (0.4) ticked down in its return to the 8pm hour. The workplace sitcom has just 4 episodes left before it leaves the airwaves for good. Later in the night, 'Dateline' (0.4) held even with what its week-ago repeat posted in the slot. Meager reruns of 'Young Rock' (0.2) and 'SVU' (0.3) separated the two originals. Fox was steady as usual with 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.7), 'Call Me Kat' (0.5), and 'Last Man Standing' (0.4). 'Kat' has now posted its 5th-straight 0.5 rating. The CW had encores of 'Walker' (0.1) and 'Legacies' (0.0).

Finals Update: 'B Positive' (+0.1), 'The Unicorn' (+0.1), both episodes of 'The Chase' (+0.1 each), and 'Last Man Standing' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 2/25/21: Mr. Mayor and The Hustler Slip for Finales, SVU and Hell’s Kitchen Also Slip, Young Sheldon and B Positive Rise (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: NBC's 'Mr. Mayor' (0.4) lost a tenth for its season finale, dropping to a new series low at the worst moment imaginable. Barring an upward adjustment in finals, this is a particularly sour note for the Ted Danson sitcom to go out on. Later in the night, 'Superstore' (0.4) held steady in its return while 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.6) inched down. The 10pm edition of 'Dateline' (0.4) was a tenth shy of week-ago occupant 'The Widower' (0.49). The news was much more positive on CBS as 'Young Sheldon' (0.9) gained a tenth and tied its season high. Comedies 'B Positive' (0.7), 'Mom' (0.6), and 'The Unicorn' (0.5) were all at high-end levels as well. 'Clarice' remained frozen at last week's 0.4 rating at 10. On ABC, 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.8) and 'The Hustler' finale (0.4) were both down by a tenth while 'The Chase' (0.6) was stable in the middle. After six-straight weeks of garnering a 0.7 rating, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.6) fell to a new season low on Fox. Despite the slippage, 'Call Me Kat' (0.5) and 'Last Man Standing' (0.4) were unchanged on a week-to-week basis. The CW housed reruns of 'Walker' (0.1) and 'Legacies' (0.1).

Finals Update: Young Sheldon (+0.1), Mom (+0.1), Mr. Mayor (+0.1), Superstore (+0.1), Law & Order: SVU (+0.1), Hell's Kitchen (+0.1), Last Man Standing (+0.1) and the repaet of Walker (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 2/4/21: Call Me Kat and Mr. Mayor Tick Down, Steady Hell’s Kitchen On Top (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: With 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.5/0.3/0.3) in repeat-mode on ABC, Fox's 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.7) was free to take the leader position. The Gordon Ramsay staple matched its previous installment and outpaced all other telecasts. But the news was less sunny for the Fox network at 9 as sitcom 'Call Me Kat' (0.5) lost a tenth and tied its low-point. 'Last Man Standing' remained frozen at 0.4 in the 9:30 slot. Despite the alphabet network's absence from originals, NBC struggled to make much ratings noise as 'Mr. Mayor' (0.5) inched down at 8 and 'Dateline' (0.3) shed two-tenths at 10. 'Superstore' (0.4) held steady in the middle and led into another 'SVU' encore (0.3). CBS had another round of comedy reruns in the form of 'Young Sheldon' (0.5), 'B Positive' (0.4), and 'Mom' (0.4). A new episode of 'The Unicorn' (0.4) improved slightly from last week's meager performance (0.35) while the 'Stark Trek: Discovery' finale (0.2) didn't budge at 10. On the CW, 'Walker' (0.3) and 'Legacies' (0.2) garnered the same ratings they did a week ago.

Finals Update: Superstore (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 1/28/21: The Unicorn Hits New Low Behind Repeats, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and The Chase Decline, Mr. Mayor Rises (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's Thursday-night lead was more subdued than usual as 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.8) and 'The Chase' (0.6) both shed a tenth from last week. 'The Hustler' (0.5) clung to its week-ago rating in the 10pm slot. NBC was steady with 'Mr. Mayor' (0.5) and 'Superstore' (0.4) but 'Dateline' (0.5) actually rose two-tenths despite its 'SVU' lead-in (0.4) being in repeat-mode. Fox was flat with a sturdy 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.7), a solid 'Call Me Kat' (0.6), and a struggling 'Last Man Standing' (0.4). On CBS, 'The Unicorn' (0.3) crashed to a new low leading out of a 'Mom' repeat (0.3). 'Young Sheldon' encores (0.5/0.4) bested the Walton Goggins comedy while 'Star Trek: Discovery' (0.2) remained anemic at 10. The CW's 'Walker' (0.3) inched down in week 2 while 'Legacies' (0.2) held even.

Finals Update: The Chase (+0.1), Mr. Mayor (+0.1),  The Unicorn (+0.1), and repeats of Law & Order: SVU (+0.1), Young Sheldon at 8:30 (+0.1) and Mom (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 1/21/21: Walker Has a Strong Premiere, Young Sheldon and Mom Rise for Returns, ABC Game Shows Slide (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Back in action after a month-long hiatus, CBS returned with comedies 'Young Sheldon' (0.8), 'B Positive' (0.6), and 'Mom' (0.6) all rising a tenth from where they last left off in December. 'The Unicorn' (0.4) and 'Star: Trek Discovery' (0.2) remained the weakest links in this lineup, neither able to make significant gains. Whether as a result of CBS coming back or not, ABC's 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.8) plunged to a new low, shedding an alarming four-tenths on a week-to-week basis. 'The Chase' (0.7) and 'The Hustler' (0.5) held on a bit better from there, down two-tenths and a tenth respectively. NBC had steady editions of 'Mr. Mayor' (0.5) and 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.6) but 'Superstore' (0.4) hit a new low in-between. A low-rated 'Dateline' (0.3) closed out the night for the peacock network. Fox's 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.7) matched last week's performance while 'Call Me Kat' (0.5) and 'Last Man Standing' (0.4) both inched down to series lows. The CW had a surprisingly competitive evening with the series debut of 'Walker' (0.4) rivaling original programming on the big 4 networks. The return of 'Legacies' (0.2) was a tenth below its fall 2019 opener at 9.

Finals Update: Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (+0.1), B Positive (+0.1), Law & Order: SVU (+0.1) and Call Me Kat (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 1/14/21: Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Remains on Top but Sees Minor Slippage, Call Me Kat, The Chase and Mr. Mayor Also Dip (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's Thursday lineup remained unchallenged despite 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (1.1) losing a tenth, 'The Chase' (0.8) shedding two, and 'The Hustler' (0.6) inching down. 'Wheel' was once again the only program of the night to break the 1.0 threshold, with all other networks failing to rise higher than a 0.7 rating. On Fox, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.7) lost a tenth from last week's premiere, as did 'Last Man Standing' (0.5) at 9:30. But 'Call Me Kat' (0.5) took a troubling two-tenth dip in the 9pm hour, potentially putting its chances of renewal in jeopardy. NBC's 'Mr Mayor' (0.5) only fell by one-tenth when compared to last week's 1-hour premiere (0.60/0.55). The Ted Danson sitcom led into the return of 'Superstore' (0.5). The longtime comedy held even as it begins to air out its final stretch of episodes. The peacock network closed the evening with a steady 'SVU' (0.6) and a rising 'Dateline' (0.4). CBS was once more in repeat-mode with 'Young Sheldon' (0.5), 'B Positive' (0.4), 'Mom' (0.3), 'The Unicorn' (0.3), and 'Star Trek: Discovery' (0.1). The CW had the finale of 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.1/0.1) and a 'Legacies' rerun (0.1).

Finals Update: 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (1.2, +0.1), 'The Chase' (0.9, +0.1), 'Call Me Kat' (0.6, +0.1), 'Young Sheldon' repeat (0.6, +0.1), 'Mom' repeat (0.4, +0.1), and 'Star Trek: Discovery' repeat (0.2, +0.1) all adjusted up.

After reopening during the coronavirus pandemic, Cloud 9 will be shutting down for good in 2021. NBC has announced that long-running comedy 'Superstore' will be ending after six seasons. The series takes place in big-box store Cloud 9 where Jonah, Dina, Cheyenne, Garrett, and others work to keep the store functioning and customers happy. Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, and Mark McKinney make up the main cast. The character of Amy (played by America Ferrera) had recently left the series but appeared in the first two installments of the sixth season to close out her character arc.

The current season of 'Superstore' has aired four episodes so far and is averaging a modest 0.55 rating in the lucrative 18-49 demographic. This is down 24% from the 0.72 average that the fifth season maintained. The sitcom will return for its final stretch of episodes on January 14, 2021. Here are the full season six ratings.

Thursday TV Ratings 11/19/20: Supernatural Steady for Series Finale, Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 Slip, A Million Little Things Premiere Ties Finale (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: A 15-year run came to an end on the CW as the network aired the series finale of drama 'Supernatural' (0.3) at 9pm and a retrospective special at 8pm (0.3). 'Supernatural' held steady with its last episode for its final broadcast. Fox took the Thursday night crown once again, unable to be dethroned by the other networks as they aired the 'Cardinals v. Seahawks' NFL game (2.6). On ABC, week 2 of 'Station 19' (0.9) took a troubling three-tenth dip from last week's strong debut (1.2). 'Grey's Anatomy' (1.2) was a good bit steadier, only shedding one tenth from its week-ago start. The alphabet network capped things off with the return of 'A Million Little Things' (0.7). The series was down three-tenths from its 2019 premiere but held even with where it left off in March 2020. CBS's lineup saw some promising momentum as both 'B Positive' (0.6) and 'The Unicorn' (0.5) gained a tenth from their last episodes. Anchors 'Young Sheldon' (0.8) and 'Mom' (0.6) were flat at the top of the hour while 'Star Trek: Discovery' (0.2) inched down at 10pm. NBC had a stable 'Superstore' (0.5) but 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.5) and 'Dateline' (0.3) each shed a tenth. 'SVU' had little lead-in help from a rotten 'Superstore' encore (0.2) at 8:30.

Finals Update: NFL: Cardinals v. Seahawks (+1.7), the repeat of Superstore (+0.1), Grey's Anatomy (+0.1) and Station 19 (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sitcom Scorecard: November 8-12, 2020

ABC took the week off to air the CMA awards, leaving the thick of the action for CBS, FOX and NBC for original sitcoms on Sunday and Thursday evenings.  In their predictable (and exciting) seesaw of NFL inflation and purging, FOX returned to gravity on Sunday, November 8.  The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob's Burgers took a nearly one-size-fits-all rating of 0.6 in preliminary figures with the Simpsons squeaking to a 0.7 in finals, while Bless The Harts created a canyon in that mark with a paltry 0.4.

Thursday, November 12 proved to be the hotbed of where the ratings action took place.  NBC's Superstore registered another series low 0.5, leaving many wondering didn't NBC used to monopolize Thursday evenings?  Over at CBS, the veterans held strong and newer sitcoms sank as predicted.  Young Sheldon ticked up to 0.8, freshman sitcom B-Positive rejected a tenth at 0.5, and Mom held steady at 0.6.  Sadly, The Unicorn returned to an all-time CBS sitcom low of 0.4.

Next week marks the return of The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola, finishing the fall roster with 16 sitcoms before 2021 approaches.

So how come some shows are Certain Renewal vs. Likely Renewal despite "strong" ratings?  They are all indeed older sitcoms, but some much older and outsourced.  The Simpsons has yet to end despite it should have done do about 19-20 seasons ago.  Unless one of the principle voiceover artists passes, this show will continue churning out watered down episodes paling compared to the glorious first 8 seasons.  Young Sheldon is in its 4th season and proved on Thursday it is still CBS' strongest player.  While Mom continues strong, it is outsourced.  Losing principle Anna Faris did free up some capital, and the writing has shown the series could survive if Allison Janney secures a new contract.  And despite withering ratings, why is Superstore a Certain Renewal?  NBC needs this sitcom to hold together some semblance of the genre and lead to new sitcom life.

Over at ABC, The Goldbergs is inches away from overtaking The Conners but like CBS' Mom is in its 8th season.  Hardly original compared to its first 3 seasons, the series is aging and outsourced from Sony.  It proves to continue to be a viable player for the network, so it is likely to be renewed.  The Conners enjoyed two seasons as ABC's strongest player, but a move to Wednesdays is chipping down the sort-of-revival sitcom.  Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and John Goodman do not come with a cheap price tag, so again contracts are the triggering factor.  American Housewife is the youngest among ABC's players in its 5th season and showing sturdy performances, making it Certain Renewal.  As for Blackish, it is critically-acclaimed, but alienates viewers causing noticeable drops.

Newer sitcoms on CBS show the weakest signs of survival.  B-Positive and The Unicorn did not retain more than 70% of their lead-ins last night, leaving them On the Bubble or lower.  COVID-19 showed if sitcoms are weaker, networks are not shy to let the hills run red with casualties.  If Mom ends after 8 seasons, CBS could return the 9:00 hour to another run-of-the-mill procedural and bump off both B-Positive and The Unicorn.  The same for ABC if The Goldbergs or The Conners ends, another sitcom could be bumped off and the schedule condensed so ABC could shop another drama or inexpensive reality platform.  Given ratings are grinding metal on metal, the networks appear to be leaning on going reality, leaving scripted programming to cable and streaming.

Thursday TV Ratings 11/12/20: Grey’s Anatomy and SVU Return Down, Station 19 Rises from Finale, The Unicorn Premiere Hits Series Low (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Although Fox remained on top with the 'Colts v Titains' NFL game (2.2), ABC brought back its medical drama lineup in stellar fashion. The season premiere of 'Station 19' (1.1) was only a tenth behind where the series began in January 2020 (1.2). Lead-out 'Grey's Anatomy' (1.3) was two-tenths below last fall's start (1.5) but essentially on-par with its April 2020 finale (1.4). On CBS, 'Young Sheldon' (0.8) gained a tenth while episode two of new sitcom 'B Positive' (0.5) lost one. 'Positive' looks a good bit worse than last week but still remains in passable territory. 'Mom' (0.6) held even at 9pm but the season two premiere of 'The Unicorn' (0.4) went two-tenths below its previous series low. 'Star Trek: Discovery' (0.3) inched up at the end of the lineup. NBC's 'Superstore' (0.5) held steady while the 22nd premiere of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.6) was a tenth below last year's (0.7) at 9pm. The CW was once more steady across the board with 'Supernatural' (0.3) and 'The Outpost' (0.1).

Finals Update: Station 19 (+0.1) and NFL: Colts v. Titans (+1.3) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 11/5/20: B Positive Holds Most of Declining Young Sheldon Lead-In, Superstore Drops for Milestone Episode, The Bachelorette Ties Season High, ABC Election Coverage Leads, NFL Rises (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: It was a rough premiere night on CBS as the fourth season of comedy 'Young Sheldon' (0.7) came in four-tenths below its 2019 debut (1.1) and two-tenths behind its previous series low (0.9). An Anna Faris-less 'Mom' (0.6) held up a bit better for its season eight return at 9pm, the Emmy-winning sitcom was two-tenths below last year's premiere but similarly hit a new low. Sandwiched between the two veterans was the series debut of new comedy 'B Positive' (0.6). For what it's worth, the sitcom only lost a tenth from its 'Sheldon' lead-in and managed to match its 'Mom' lead-out. While currently in good shape, the coming weeks will paint a more accurate picture of this show's strength. CBS ended the night with a 9:30pm 'Young Sheldon' repeat (0.4) and more election coverage (0.3).

NBC's 'Superstore' (0.5) shed a tenth from last week's premiere and dropped down to a new low. It led into a repeat of itself (0.3) since new sitcom 'Connecting...' was pulled off the air. The peacock network closed things out with a third night of election coverage (0.4), down 50% from yesterday's (0.8) and nearly 80% from election night (1.7). ABC had a Thursday edition of 'The Bachelorette' (1.4) that outperformed every other episode it has aired this season. That lead-in was wasted on another round of election coverage (0.5). Fox's 'Packers v. 49ers' NFL game (2.4) topped the night but was a full point below last week's 'Thursday Night Football' game. 'Supernatural' (0.3) rose a tenth on the CW while 'The Outpost' (0.1) held steady.

Finals Update: 'NFL: Packers v. 49ers' (+1.4), 'The Bachelorette' (+0.2), 'Your Voice/Your Vote' (+0.1), and 'Decision 2020: Election Special' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sitcom Scorecard: October 28-29, 2020

FOX took the week off as the World Series played out this week, leaving the heart of the action with ABC and NBC.  Both welcomed veteran players American and Housewife and Superstore, both of which registered a sturdy and respectable 0.6 rating.  Wednesday, October 28 saw slight changes as the Goldbergs (0.7) and The Conners (0.8) shed a tenth, while a newly recovered Blackish (0.6) held low but steady.  NBC received a mild bump with Superstore's return, followed by another dismal buffering of Connecting (0.2).

Calculations for shows have been updated, without a single certain renewal.  The justification lies in the fact that all shows save for Connecting and Bless The Harts are aging veterans over 5 years, two of which are outsourced productions.  The Simpsons will likely be the first to be upgraded when more performance is registered, but the remains will be determined deeper into the season.  Over at ABC, The Goldbergs is in its 8th Season and now belting out ratings above average.  That, coupled with being outsourced from Sony will need more monitoring to determine if a renewal is likely.  The Conners is still a strong player, but lost its niche as ABC's sure heavyweight.  After a soft 0.8 (0.7 in initial numbers), it is no longer a juggernaut but an above average player, also outsourced.

American Housewife is ABC's youngest player which bounced back nicely after taking a battering of scheduling moves the prior two seasons.  However, it hasn't proven itself sturdy enough to hold a lead position in the lineup.  If any of the players end this season, AH could find its hair caught with the cancelled show as it circles the drain and ABC trims down the sitcom block further.  Blackish is in a similar predicament at its advanced age in its 7th season.  It is critically acclaimed, but failed to lead on Tuesday nights.  ABC's entire sitcom block fits as a Likely Renewal as all are registering solid-ish numbers, but no one is the beacon for the network's future.  NBC would be foolish to hock Superstore as it has once again moved into the network's leading sitcom, but it too is aging and salaries grow expensive as shows move out of the 5th year of production.

CBS is the only network marking sitcom returns for the remainder of 2020 as all 6 of its players return between November 5-16.  Next Thursday marks the debut of veterans Young Sheldon and Mom, as well as freshman pilot B-Positive.  Can Young Sheldon hang onto ratings above the 1.0 mark?  Yearly losses coupled with COVID-19 disruptions could see the series tick down but it will likely remain CBS' lead player.  Mom is in the spotlight November 5 as it marks the first episode minus Anna Faris, and a potential bump is anticipated.  Readers need to be reminded though the prior season harmed CBS' entire comedy block after losing The Big Bang Theory, and Mom only experienced ratings between 0.7-1.0, often holding to 0.8.  The Unicorn gallops in November 12, and surprisingly sturdy Monday players The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola come home November 16.
