Big Brother: Unlocked (0.40) returned to CBS with a surprising amount of life in it, more than doubling its premiere from last year (0.18). But the momentum came to a halt at nine, as This is UFC (0.14) was underwhelming in the retention department, enough so that a 10 p.m. repeat of Boston Blue (0.16) grew from it. On NBC, Dateline (0.19, -0.05) was down from its last original broadcast. ABC aired repeats of Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.22) and 20/20 (0.17). Fox aired Summer of '94 (0.18). The Argentina v. Cape Verde FIFA World Cup game posted a colossal 6.16 rating on Fox, and the Colombia v. Ghana match-up (3.27) was still huge despite a noticeable ratings drop-off. Fox's broadcast of the USA v. Paraguay FIFA World Cup game posted an enormous 5.92 in the Adults 18-49 demographic, which easily put the network in first place on Friday night. On ABC, the special Toy Story: 30 Years and Beyond (0.24) performed well, but it fell behind a surprisingly strong repeat of CBS's Sheriff Country (0.25). Dateline (0.17, -0.02) declined on NBC. On Fox, new reality series The Fixer (0.08/0.06) got off to an absolutely dreadful start, failing to match the average of a pair of reruns (0.08/0.08) that aired last week. ABC had much better luck with repeats of Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.20) and 20/20 (0.16). NBC aired encores of Happy's Place (0.17/0.19) and Dateline (0.14). CBS went with reruns of NCIS: Sydney (0.15/0.11) and Fire Country (0.11). The CW brought back Totally Funny Animals (0.03) and Totally Funny Kids (0.04). Key: (R) = repeat.

Thursday TV Ratings 9/26/24: Doctor Odyssey Has Solid Premiere, Grey’s Anatomy and Crime Scene Kitchen Return to New Lows, Big Brother Leads [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Doctor Odyssey (0.40) got off to a strong start on ABC. The medical drama held onto 85% of its 9-1-1 lead-in (0.47) and was a full tenth higher than a weakened Grey's Anatomy (0.30). On Fox, Hell's Kitchen (0.26) returned in passable shape, but Crime Scene Kitchen (0.16) was a dud on arrival. CBS's Big Brother (0.57, +0.01) picked up a hundredth. NBC's broadcast of the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards (0.28) placed third in the 8 p.m. time slot. Totally Funny Animals (0.05, +0.02) and Totally Funny Kids (0.04, +0.02) improved on the CW. Ratings Analysis: In its final Fox broadcast, WWE Smackdown (0.45, -0.08) slipped but maintained its lead. On NBC, the 2024 Paris Paralympics (0.16) remained a poor performer, dropping once more from its America's Got Talent repeat lead-in (0.23). ABC's 20/20 (0.26) built significantly on the repeat of Shark Tank (0.18) that led into it. Let's Make a Deal Primetime (0.21, +0.01) inched up on CBS, but Lingo (0.15, -0.04) declined.
