Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro (0.26, -0.04) could not stop the bleeding in week three, which gave a surging American Ninja Warrior (0.34, +0.06) a chance to pull ahead of its ABC competitor. The Wall (0.18, +0.03) was also up on NBC. Repeats of The Neighborhood (0.19/0.14), FBI (0.15), and CIA (0.11) made up CBS's Monday night lineup. On Fox, The 1% Club (0.23, 0.00) tied last week's rating, but The Quiz with Balls (0.16, -0.03) declined. All American (0.07, +0.02) rose on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.
NBC's American Ninja Warrior (0.28, +0.10) surged in its move to an earlier time slot, while The Wall (0.15) struggled at ten. On ABC, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro (0.30, -0.13) lost a large chunk of last week's premiere rating, just barely beating Warrior in the key demo. It's been a busy week in the world of summer TV, with several new series debuting, as well as time slot changes and several shows hitting season highs. Keep reading for initial predictions for three series, plus an update on another.
While nowhere near the heights of its parent program, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro (0.43) had a solid debut in its own right on ABC, posting Monday night's highest 18-49 rating. On NBC, American Ninja Warrior (0.18, -0.01) was down slightly from last week. CBS went with sitcom and drama repeats (0.13/0.13/0.14/0.12). On Fox, The 1% Club (0.26, +0.12) and The Quiz with Balls (0.22, +0.12) surged in their returns. The CW's All American (0.07/0.07) more than doubled its previous season premiere rating (0.03). It was a disappointing night for NBC as American Ninja Warrior (0.17) had a discouraging return that put it behind repeats of St. Denis Medical (0.22/0.23). On ABC, the NBA Finals (6.44, +1.69) soared to even loftier heights in game three, while The 1% Club (0.14, -0.09) and Quiz with Balls (0.10, -0.08) collapsed on Fox. But the trend was different with CBS's dramas as FBI (0.28, +0.02) and CIA (0.20, +0.03) both rose. NBA on NBC (1.16) was in the lead once more. Later in the night, FBI (0.25, -0.01) dipped, while CIA (0.17, 0.00) held steady. On Fox, the premiere of The 1% Club (0.19) was below last week's Extracted finale (0.24). After months of bare schedules across broadcast, with few originals to be found, a new TV season is finally upon us. With that, it's time to wrap up another season of the Summer Renew/Cancel, and give my final calls on all of the shows that aired across ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC this summer!
ABC's Dancing with the Stars made its return in explosive fashion, beginning the season with a mammoth 1.06 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, a whopping 45% improvement on last year's premiere (0.73). At ten, High Potential (0.34) retained less than a third of its Dancing lead-in for its season premiere, but the series was only a hundredth shy of its year-ago launch (0.35). America's Got Talent (0.40, +0.02) was up from last week on NBC, but a 10 p.m. fall preview special (0.13) did not impress. CBS aired repeats of NCIS (0.17) and NCIS: Origins (0.12/0.10). On Fox, The 1% Club (0.25/0.23) finished strong. WWE NXT (0.17, +0.03) gained some momentum on the CW. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.
