Wednesday TV Ratings 5/4/22: Good Sam Rises for Finale, The Goldbergs and The Conners Sink to New Lows, Survivor Scores 2022 High (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Half of ABC's sitcom lineup was in original mode and the results were not pretty, with both 'The Goldbergs' (0.44, -0.05) and 'The Conners' (0.40, -0.03) crashing to their lowest ratings to date. Reruns of 'The Wonder Years' (0.26) and 'Home Economics' (0.27) occupied the 8:30 and 9:30 slots while 'A Million Little Things' (0.25, -0.01) shed a hundredth at 10. CBS was up all-around with 'Survivor' (0.91, +0.06), a stronger than usual 'Beyond the Edge' (0.39, +0.12), and the season finale of 'Good Sam' (0.27, +0.06). Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (0.66, -0.01) inched down as 'Domino Masters' (0.31) held steady. 'The Flash' (0.12) was also steady on the CW, but 'Kung Fu' (0.07, -0.02) dropped by two-hundredths. NBC had repeats of 'Chicago Med' (0.35), 'Chicago Fire' (0.38), and 'Chicago PD' (0.38).

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'The Masked Singer' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'Chicago PD' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/27/22: Survivor Slightly Down but Remains Dominant, The Masked Singer Rises, A Million Little Things Stable (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Survivor' (0.85, -0.01) and 'Beyond the Edge' (0.27, -0.01) were both a hundredth shy of last week, but 'Good Sam' (0.21, +0.01) managed to rise by that same amount. On Fox, 'The Masked Singer' (0.67, +0.04) grew by four-hundredths as 'Domino Masters' (0.31, -0.02) tied its series low. 'The Flash' (0.12, -0.03) shed three-hundredths on the CW while 'Kung Fu' (0.09, +0.02) gained two-hundredths. ABC had a stable 'A Million Little Things' (0.26) alongside reruns of 'The Goldbergs' (0.33), 'The Wonder Years' (0.22), 'Abbott Elementary' (0.24), and 'Home Economics' (0.18). NBC's repeats of 'Chicago Med' (0.39), 'Chicago Fire' (0.43), and 'Chicago PD' (0.43) were significantly stronger than the alphabet network's offerings.

Finals Update: 'The Masked Singer' (+0.1) and 'A Million Little Things' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/20/22: The Masked Singer Sets New Series Low, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire Dip, Rising Survivor Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: A controversial appearance from former mayor Rudy Giuliani did nothing to help boost Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (0.63, -0.03). The reality series set a new series low and remained in third place in the 8PM hour. 'Domino Masters' (0.33, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths at 9. On CBS, 'Survivor' (0.86, +0.07) gained seven-hundredths, 'Beyond the Edge' (0.28, -0.02) dropped by two, and 'Good Sam' (0.20) held steady. ABC's 'The Goldbergs' (0.49, +0.03) rose by three-hundredths while 'The Wonder Years' (0.31, -0.03) and 'A Million Little Things' (0.26, -0.03) declined by the same amount. 'Home Economics' (0.28, +0.02) inched up behind a rerun of 'The Conners' (0.26). 'Chicago Med' (0.65, -0.04), 'Chicago Fire' (0.77, -0.05), and 'Chicago PD' (0.68, -0.04) all dipped on NBC. The CW's Freddie Mercury special (0.11) was a modest performer by the network's standards.

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'The Conners' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/6/22: Kardashians Special Decent on ABC, The Masked Singer and Chicago Med Drop (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The Robin Roberts-hosted 'Kardashians' special (0.46) posted a fairly tepid rating on ABC and was a distant fourth-place in the 8PM timeslot. Given how big the Kardashians are, the alphabet network may not be pleased with the fact that this rating is two-hundredths below the last 'Goldbergs' original (0.48). Despite that, 'The Wonder Years' (0.33, +0.02) actually rose a tiny bit for a special 9PM installment. 'Home Economics' (0.32, -0.05) lost significant ground at 9:30, likely due to having a reduced lead-in, but 'A Million Little Things' (0.28, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths in the 10PM timeslot. On CBS, 'Survivor' (0.88, -0.02) inched down as 'Beyond the Edge' (0.34, -0.01) and 'Good Sam' (0.20, -0.04) dropped to new lows. Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (0.67, -0.14) and 'Domino Masters' (0.31, -0.07) also crashed to new lows, with 'Singer' barely fending off NBC's 'Chicago Med' (0.66, -0.01) in the 8PM hour. The peacock network's other offerings, 'Chicago Fire' (0.81, +0.06) & 'Chicago PD' (0.72, +0.04), were both on the rise. 'The Flash' (0.11, +0.03) rebounded on the CW as 'Kung Fu' (0.07) held flat at its low.

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'The Masked Singer' (+0.1), 'Chicago Med' (+0.1), and 'The Kardashians' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Survivor' (0.90, +0.06) climbed to its highest 2022 rating to date and topped a rather quiet Wednesday evening. Lead-out program 'Beyond the Edge' (0.35, -0.04) slipped to its lowest rating yet but at least 'Good Sam' (0.24, +0.02) perked up at 10. Fox reality series 'The Masked Singer' (0.81, +0.09) gained close to a tenth, but 'Domino Masters' (0.38, -0.06) dropped down to the lackluster rating it posted in its first two weeks. On the CW, 'The Flash' (0.08, -0.06) and 'Kung Fu' (0.07, -0.04) both crashed to new series lows. ABC's 20/20 special about the past twenty-four months (0.25) could only tie the 'Home Economics' rerun (0.25) that preceded it and trailed repeats of 'The Goldbergs' (0.32), 'The Wonder Years' (0.28), and 'The Conners' (0.28). NBC's encores of 'Chicago Med' (0.40), 'Chicago Fire' (0.47), and 'Chicago PD' (0.41) handily outperformed the alphabet network's efforts.

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'The Masked Singer' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1) adjusted up.

survivor-42-episode-3

Ratings Analysis: On a night where no show declined, ABC sitcom 'Home Economics' (0.37, +0.06) posted the most impressive gain of them all. The struggling comedy rose to its strongest rating since early February and widened the gap between it and 8:30PM sitcom 'The Wonder Years' (0.31, +0.01). 'The Goldbergs' (0.48, +0.02), 'The Conners' (0.48, +0.02), and 'A Million Little Things' (0.26, +0.03) also enjoyed some upticks. CBS's 'Good Sam' (0.22, +0.01) picked up a hundredth, 'Survivor' (0.84, +0.02) gained two, and 'Beyond the Edge' (0.39, +0.03) rose by three. Fox reality series 'The Masked Singer' (0.72, +0.01) inched up, and 'Domino Masters' (0.44, +0.06) climbed to its highest rating yet. 'The Flash' (0.14, +0.02) and 'Kung Fu' (0.11, +0.03) recovered on the CW, with the latter posting a season high. NBC aired repeats of 'Chicago Med' (0.34), 'Chicago Fire' (0.38), and 'Chicago PD' (0.37).

Finals Update: 'The Conners' (+0.1) and 'Home Economics' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'The Flash' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: 'The Goldbergs' (0.57, +0.01) squeezed out an extra hundredth for its 200th episode that featured the wedding of two integral characters. That minor uptick was the only good news that ABC had to offer as 'The Wonder Years' (0.33, -0.05), 'Home Economics' (0.25, -0.08), and 'A Million Little Things' (0.21, -0.07) all crashed to new series low. 'The Conners' (0.46, -0.03) had a more mild drop than the other three at 9 but still tied its low. On CBS, the two-hour season finale of 'The Amazing Race' (0.66, +0.12) climbed to its highest rating since the January premiere (0.69). That strong momentum did not stop drama 'Good Sam' (0.21, -0.05) from sinking to its lowest rating yet. NBC's 'Chicago Med' (0.74, -0.07) lost seven-hundredths as 'Chicago Fire' (0.81, +0.04) and 'Chicago PD' (0.77, +0.05) rose by a few hundredths apiece. On Fox, 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.37, -0.01) inched down while 'Next Level Chef' (0.44) held steady for its finale. The CW's 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.08) was flat with last week for its season closer, but 'Batwoman' (0.07, -0.04) nosedived for its 9PM finale.

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'The Conners' (+0.1), and 'Chicago PD' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Screen-Shot-2022-02-23-at-10-23-37-PM

Ratings Analysis: After 21 days off the air, ABC comedies 'The Goldbergs' (0.56, -0.10), 'The Wonder Years' (0.38, -0.10), 'The Conners' (0.49, -0.09), and 'Home Economics' (0.33, -0.09) were all a tenth lower than the last time they were on. At 10, drama 'A Million Little Things' (0.28, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths for its midseason return. On CBS, 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.69, +0.28) enjoyed a solid surge for its season finale and was well above last Wednesday's episode (0.54). 'The Amazing Race' (0.54, +0.07) gained seven-hundredths at 9, but 'Good Sam' (0.26, -0.12) plummeted in the 10PM timeslot. 'Chicago Med' (0.81, +0.01) and 'Chicago PD' (0.72, +0.02) inched up on NBC, but 'Chicago Fire' (0.77, -0.08) took a noticeable hit. Fox was up across the board with 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38, +0.02) and 'Next Level Chef' (0.44, +0.04). 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.08, -0.04) and 'Batwoman' (0.11, -0.01) slipped on the CW.

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Big Brother' (+0.1), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'The Wonder Years' (+0.1), 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1), and 'Good Sam' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Screen-Shot-2022-02-03-at-2-51-03-AM

Ratings Analysis: Although it was off the air for nearly three years, CBS's 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.78) returned in solid shape and topped Wednesday night altogether. The reality spinoff was just about a tenth behind its last episode from February 2019 (0.9) and appeared to give 'The Amazing Race' (0.64, +0.06) and drama 'Good Sam' (0.38, +0.09) a healthy boost. While it likely has not done enough to shed the "flop" label, 'Good Sam' has now posted its highest rating to date. ABC had some success of its own with Valentine's Day-themed episodes of 'The Goldbergs' (0.66, +0.08), 'The Wonder Years' (0.48, +0.08), 'The Conners' (0.58, +0.10), and 'Home Economics' (0.42, +0.07) that improved on the installments from two weeks ago. 'Home Economics' was the only one of the four sitcoms to post a new season high and led into a rising edition of 'The Chase' (0.34, +0.03). Fox's 'Next Level Chef' (0.46, -2.13) did not benefit one bit from airing after the NFC Championship on Sunday and merely tied what it garnered seven days prior. 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38) remained stable in the 8PM slot. NBC had reruns of 'Chicago Med' (0.39), 'Chicago Fire' (0.35), and 'Chicago PD' (0.36). The CW got the same rating out of 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' (0.12, +0.01) and 'Batwoman' (0.12, +0.02), marking a new season high for both programs.

Finals Update: 'Celebrity Big Brother' (+0.1), 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'The Conners' (+0.1), 'Next Level Chef' (+0.1), and 'Good Sam' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: CBS's primetime edition of 'Let's Make a Deal' (0.60) led the evening and went nearly a tenth higher than the last time it aired (0.51) back in early 2021. Despite that, it was a little more than a tenth below the week-ago 'Price Is Right' (0.74), 'The Amazing Race' (0.58, -0.09) was a tenth shy of its last episode, but 'Good Sam' (0.29, +0.01) gained a hundredth at 10. Fox's 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38) tied what it garnered the Wednesday prior, but 'Next Level Chef' (0.46, -0.01) lost a tick in the 9PM timeslot. NBC's repeats of 'Chicago Med' (0.43), 'Chicago Fire' (0.43), and 'Chicago PD' (0.40) were markedly stronger than ABC's encores of 'The Goldbergs' (0.38), 'The Wonder Years' (0.25), 'The Conners' (0.28), 'Home Economics' (0.20), and 'The Chase' (0.19). In CW news, 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.11, +0.02) tied its season high and 'Batwoman' (0.10, +0.03) rose to a new one.

Finals Update: 'The Amazing Race' (+0.1), 'Next Level Chef' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'The Wonder Years' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: 'The Goldbergs' (0.58, -0.09), 'The Wonder Years' (0.40, -0.10), and 'The Conners' (0.48, -0.08) were all roughly a tenth lower than the previous week on ABC. 9:30pm sitcom 'Home Economics' (0.35, -0.03) and 10pm game show 'The Chase' (0.31, -0.02) declined by smaller amounts but were also substantially lower than the other three. CBS had a particularly strong evening as 'The Price Is Right At Night' (0.74, +0.13) and 'The Amazing Race' (0.67, +0.18) soared well above their week-ago episodes. Drama 'Good Sam' (0.28, +0.05) also rose a bit but remained dead-last in the 10pm hour. NBC's 'Chicago Med' (0.80, -0.01) and 'Chicago PD' (0.70, -0.03) lost some steam, but 'Chicago Fire' (0.85) held steady with its last installment. 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38, -0.09) and 'Next Level Chef' (0.47, -0.06) fell by nine-hundredths and six-hundredths respectively on Fox. 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.09, -0.02) and 'Batwoman' (0.07, -0.01) inched down on the CW.

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'The Amazing Race' (+0.1), 'The Conners' (+0.1), 'Next Level Chef' (+0.1), and 'Home Economics' (+0.1) adjusted up.

2022-1-12-bc4d79c8-7672-4625-aed5-0fa9d1788c72-png-1920x1080

Ratings Analysis: ABC was on the rise throughout the night as 'The Goldbergs' (0.67, +0.08), 'The Wonder Years' (0.50, +0.06), 'The Conners' (0.56, +0.10), 'Home Economics' (0.38, +0.09), and 'The Chase' (0.33, +0.06) all grew by six-hundredths or more from their week-ago returns. In a similar vein, 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.47, +0.09) and 'Next Level Chef' (0.53, +0.07) improved significantly from their tepid starts on Fox. CBS was unable to match that trend as reality staple 'The Amazing Race' (0.49, -0.20) lost two-tenths from its solid premiere and fell behind its 'Price Is Right At Night' lead-in (0.61). At 10, drama 'Good Sam' (0.23, -0.08) dropped by eight-hundredths from a debut that was already lifeless. NBC's 'Chicago Med' (0.81, +0.06) gained six-hundredths and was able to top the evening altogether. At 9, 'Chicago Fire' (0.85, -0.01) shed a hundredth while 'Chicago PD' (0.73) held steady in the 10PM timeslot. The CW's 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.11, +0.04) climbed to a season high for its first 2022 episode but 'Batwoman' (0.08, -0.01) ticked down at 9.

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'The Wonder Years' (+0.1), 'The Conners' (+0.1), and 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: Being off the air for over a year did not seem to faze CBS's long-running reality series 'The Amazing Race' (0.69). 'Race' was just a tenth behind its December 2020 finale (0.8) in the 18-49 demographic and nearly matched that closer in total viewers (4.40 million vs. 4.46 million). The news was much less encouraging at 10PM as new drama 'Good Sam' (0.31) retained less than half of 'Amazing Race' for its series debut. On Fox, musical game show 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38) returned in battered condition for its second season. This rating is over 50% below its previous series low (0.8) and an egregious 75% behind its September 2020 start (1.2). The timeslot premiere of 'Next Level Chef' (0.46) was able to build from there but was at less than a third of its Sunday preview (1.55). ABC's 'The Goldbergs (0.59, +0.10) and 'The Wonder Years' (0.44, +0.10) both gained a tenth, but 'The Conners' (0.46, -0.06) posted a new low while 'Home Economics' (0.29, -0.04) tied its previous low. At 10, game show 'The Chase' (0.27) also hit a new series low for its first episode of 2022. On NBC, 'Chicago Med' (0.75, +0.05), 'Chicago Fire' (0.86, +0.12), and 'Chicago PD' (0.73, +0.03) all rose for their midseason premieres. The CW aired reruns of 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.05) and 'Batwoman' (0.03).

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'Chicago Fire' (+0.2), 'Chicago Med' (+0.1), 'The Conners' (+0.1), and 'Next Level Chef' (+0.1) adjusted up.
