INT. STARSHIP - CAPTAIN’S ROOM - NIGHT
It’s been a rough few hours for the ship’s crew. In case you forgot, the anniversary party was of Starship was just interrupted with a murder. Not fun.

Annica is sitting in the captain’s chair, looking out into space, only to be disturbed by Eli’s entrance. She quickly rises.

ANNICA
Ohmygod, Eli. Is everyone okay? Are you okay? I heard about what happened, but I couldn’t leave the room unattended.
ELI
Yeah, we’re fine. A few of the passengers got some cuts and scraps from falling debris, but nothing serious. Free meal points shut them up.

ANNICA
Well do you know what happened? How he got in the vents? Who put him there? Who--
Eli, exhausted from a long night of no sleep, cuts of Annica.
ELI
No. I don’t know anything yet. I’ve spent my night trying to deal with the mess in the room, calming passengers. Hoping there’s no Astral Charges put on me...on you.
ANNICA
Oh...yeah. Thanks. Why don’t you go get some rest?

Eli slumps down into the captain’s desk chair. He pulls up a holographic computer and begins searching through various holograms of documents.
ELI
It’s almost morning. There’s a lot of paperwork I have to deal with and I have to talk to the Elders this morning, too. Sleep is for the weak.

ANNICA
I guess I’m weak then. I’m taking a break.
Annica begins to walk out of the room, but not before...
ANNICA (CONT'D)
Oh, and Eli?
ELI
Yeah?
ANNICA
I know this couldn’t have been easy for you. If you need someone to talk...you know where my quarters are.
Eli smiles at Annica as she walks out and we

INT. STARSHIP - COMMONS - MORNING
Meridian and Davis sit at a table, Meridian seems uneasy as he taps his fingers nervously.
DAVIS
Last night shook you up that much?
MERIDIAN
How are you not freaking out?
DAVIS
Because it’s not a big deal.
MERIDIAN
Someone on this ship was murdered. That is a big deal.
DAVIS
Eh, I’m sure it’s happened before. Like I said, there’s a lot of weird things that happen on this ship.
MERIDIAN
I thought we left all that behind us centuries ago on Earth.
DAVIS
We did, in a sense. It’s not like we’re just some big city that happens to have murder and crimes.

MERIDIAN
Then what are we?
DAVIS
A floating colony with corruption and secrets.
Meridian does not like this, changing the subject...
MERIDIAN
So when are your “friends” gonna show up?

DAVIS
Here they are, right now.
At this, ZYLA (mid-20s) and ECHO (late-30s) approach the two. Davis and Meridian stand to greet them. They all shake hands before returning to sit.
ECHO
So you say he’s like us?
DAVIS
Yes. That’s why I’ve asked you here.

ZYLA
To do what?
DAVIS
Share stories. Theories. See if we can all piece together what’s been going on.

Davis presses a button on his watch and a holographic computer fills the area.
MERIDIAN
So what do you want us to do?
DAVIS
Start from the beginning.

INT. STARSHIP - RESIDENT HALLWAY - MORNING
Miranda stands in the hallway of the residents’ quarters wing. In her hand she holds a KEYCARD marked “STAFF”. She does a quick check of her surroundings to make sure she’s not being followed before hurrying down the hallway and stopping at the last room. Maxx’s room.

The door is barricaded by a few memorial photos of him and
RED LASERS that go over the door.
Miranda takes the staff card and places it on the scanner next to the door. The lasers disappear. She’s in. She does one final check to make sure she’s alone before hurrying in the room.

INT. STARSHIP - MAXX’S ROOM - MORNING - CONTINUOUS
Miranda cautiously enters Maxx’s room. There’s nothing out of the ordinary in plain sight.

She hurries over to his desk and begins snooping through his things. Books, drawings, magazines. Nothing to provide any insight into his murder.
MIRANDA
(to herself) What were you hiding?

Disappointed. She pushes some of the books off his desk and onto on the floor. They hit the ground with a quiet thud.
MIRANDA (CONT'D)
That was hollow. What’s under here?
She drops to the ground and pushes the books away and begins feeling the carpet for an opening. After a beat, she pulls away part of the carpet to reveal a safe box.
MIRANDA (CONT'D)
 Bingo.

INT. STARSHIP - CAPTAIN'S ROOM - MORNING

Eli is hunkered down at his desk, scrolling through the air on his computer while furiously typing at his desk.
He is disturbed by Annica, who barges in with prep.
ANNICA
Six cups of Starlight later and I’m ready for the day.

Eli stops his work and presses a button which dismisses the computer.

ELI
Great. As you know we’ve been having some issues on the Lower Levels lately.
ANNICA
Yes, I’m familiar. Breakouts, protests, leaks.
ELI
Right. And, until I have time to properly deal with that, the only thing I can think to do is increase the work and the power.
ANNICA
Is that really necessary? Everything on here is running fine as is. Increasing the level would only just give us more--
ELI
Yes, I know what it would do. And is that such a bad thing? Who knows what the ship might head into in the future.
ANNICA
But can they really sustain that amount of heat and energy? They’re only--

ELI
I know, I know. But it’s the only thing that can put a pin in the trouble. And it’s just temporary...like I said, it’ll help the ship. It’ll help all of us someday soon.
ANNICA
Yeah, I know the drill. Power is key.
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - COMMONS - MORNING
Our relentless investigators are still going strong. Davis records everything that is being said.

ECHO
And then the next thing I knew, I was back in my room. With a splitting headache.
DAVIS
And how long was the blackout?
ECHO
Close to a month.
DAVIS
And do you have any idea what was happening during that time?
ZYLA
If we knew, we wouldn’t be talking to you.

DAVIS
Just bear with me. There’s a process.

MERIDIAN
What process? How could you figure out what happens when all goes black?

DAVIS
With previous informants, after our talks, they would begin to recall flashes of memories.
ZYLA
So does that mean we’ll eventually figure out what happened? Like therapy sessions?
DAVIS
I’d like to say yes...
MERIDIAN
But?
DAVIS
Anyone I got close to ended up ignoring me after a few talks.
ECHO
Ignoring you?

DAVIS
Yes. I’d see them in the wings, or call them, and they’d pretend not to know me.
MERIDIAN
Why would they do that?
DAVIS
I don’t know...but I don’t think they had a choice.
ZYLA
What do you mean?
DAVIS
Are you all familiar with the Memory Banks?
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - WINTER’S CLASSROOM - MORNING
Winter stands in front of a room of bushy-eyed tweens.
WINTER
Today, we’re going to be doing something a little different.
A student raises their hand.
STUDENT #1
So were you really at the party last night where some guy fell from the sky?
This question excites the class.
STUDENT #2
Yeah, were you?
WINTER
I’m not at liberty to discuss that.
STUDENT #1
Why?
WINTER
Because there are some things you don’t need... or want to know about...And besides, we have much more exciting things to talk about today.

                    STUDENT #3
                    Like?

                    WINTER
Well, how about the fact that we’re on a floating ship, in the middle of the darkness, and there’s a whole universe we could be exploring?

STUDENT #1
What do you mean?
WINTER
Don’t any of you think it’s interesting that there are so many planets, galaxies, sectors... even worlds, that we haven’t even tried to explore?
STUDENT #2
And how would we do that?
WINTER
It’d be a long process, but, colonization. We could colonize whole parts of the galaxy. Build a new world.

STUDENT #1
Why haven’t we?
WINTER
You know what they say. The things that are the most beautiful are also the most dangerous. And unknown.
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - MAXX’S ROOM - NOON
We pick up where we last saw Miranda. She picks up the safe box and sits it on the bed.
MIRANDA
(to herself) Okay. Password.

She types in a few different combinations, but none of them grant access.

MIRANDA (CONT'D)
Crap. What are you hiding Maxx?
She stops for a minute. Before thinking. After a beat, it’s like a lightbulb has gone off in her head.
She quickly types in something and the safe opens.

                        MIRANDA (CONT'D)
           Got you.

CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - CAPTAIN’S ROOM - AFTERNOON
Eli is speaking on a phone while sitting at the captain’s chair.

ELI
I know...No, nobody is asking questions.
A look of worry flashes across his face.
ELI (CONT'D)
No, I know nobody will get suspicious.
(a beat)
Why would they? They don’t know we’re going there.
(a beat)
Nobody would suspect--
Before he can finish his phone call, Annica walks in. He quickly dismisses the call.
ELI (CONT'D)
(to Annica) What’s up?

ANNICA
I was just about to send off the order for the Lower Level.
ELI
Good.
Eli gets up and walks to the window overlooking the great unknown.

                                                              ANNICA
But I couldn’t do it.

         ELI
Why?

                   ANNICA

I wanted to be sure you knew what you were doing.
ELI
Of course I know what I’m doing.
ANNICA
Do you know what that power would give the Starship? What it would be able to do?
ELI
Yes, I’m well aware.
ANNICA
It’s not like we’re in an old Hollywood movie. We couldn’t possibly need the ship for that purpose.

ELI
Maybe we will, maybe we won’t.
ANNICA
Maybe? We’re going to a new colony, we’re not--
ELI
(stern)
Anni, enough. Send the order, or I will.

Annica realizes Eli’s not playing. But she trusts him to do what’s right. A look of realization flashes on her face, before...

ANNICA
Okay, yeah, sorry. I’ll do it right now.

                     ELI
Excellent.

CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - COMMONS - AFTERNOON
MERIDIAN
What do the Memory Banks have to do with this? Yeah we forget stuff, but the banks can’t make us do anything.

DAVIS
I know that. It’s just a part of the puzzle.
ZYLA
And what other parts of the puzzle do you have?
ECHO
And how do we fit in?
DAVIS
Obviously, I don’t have everything figured out. But what if there’s someone, or something, that you are all a greater purpose of?
MERIDIAN
I’m not following.
DAVIS
What if there’s a reason the three of you were selected to do--or go-- wherever you did?
ECHO
What are you saying?
DAVIS
I might sound crazy.
ZYLA
But?
DAVIS
You all don’t think it’s strange how we know virtually nothing of the new colony yet? I mean, I know we have lightyears to go, but still.

ZYLA
Continue...

DAVIS
What if that’s because not everyone is going to the new colony? What if it’s a “the fit survive” kinda situation?

ECHO
Yeah, I highly doubt that.
MERIDIAN
I’m with Echo. All I am is a handyman. They wouldn’t want me for anything special.
DAVIS
Ok, maybe I’m not exactly right. But I think there’s some truth to it. To where you all go. Why you go.

ZYLA
Ok, Sherlock.
DAVIS
I know I may be not be totally right, but I’m not crazy. There’s a reason you three, and the others, blacked out. And we’re going to figure it out.
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - MAXX’S ROOM - AFTERNOON
Miranda pulls out a few folders from the safe. Three to be exact. And ON the folders we see the following “ELI ELARA”, “WINTER ELARA”, and “WYATT ELARA”.
Miranda gasps.
She opens each folder and flips through them.
Each folder contains a full file on each sibling. Date of birth, age, height, life, career. The whole deal.

Upon finishing flipping through the folders, she finds a sticky note that says the following “ELARA. POOL. 12AM”
MIRANDA
Oh my god.
A tear falls from Miranda’s eye as she pulls out her phone and takes a picture of all the evidence.

She returns it to where she found it and quickly leaves the room.

CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - SCHOOL WING - HALLWAY
Winter stands by her classroom door as the class walks out and leaves.
She is approached by NOVA (20s).
NOVA
Another day down for the count.
WINTER
Thank the stars.
NOVA
Was it that bad?
WINTER
I swear, the kids get more pushy and eager to move on to the Upper Ground every day.
NOVA
You can’t blame them for wanting to get out of this little boarding wing and wanting to see the rest of the ship.

WINTER
I know, I know...so, how was your day?

NOVA
The usual. Field training for an event that’ll never happen can only get so exciting.
WINTER
You really think that? That things will never get there?
NOVA
One-hundred percent.
WINTER
I see.

NOVA
And you know, I could always use some excitement in my life.
WINTER
(playfully) Really? Like what?
NOVA
Ah, well. There’s always Space Walking, eternal preservation training, and well, a date with you. I’ve heard your lectures before and I’d love to pick your brain...among things.
WINTER
I thought you’d never ask.
Nova smiles and breathes a smile of relief as we...
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - WYATT’S ROOM - EVENING
Wyatt is standing in front of a mirror holding two different fancy shirts up to him.

Miranda walks in, looking flushed, until she sees Wyatt and puts on a happy face.
WYATT
Which one?
Wyatt turns to Miranda and holds up the shirts to him.
MIRANDA
(playfully)
Big date? I thought we were gonna...hang.
WYATT
Big meeting.
MIRANDA
Oh really? I’m intrigued.
WYATT
Yeah, well, I guess you’ll have to stay that way.
MIRANDA
What? You can’t tell little old me?

WYATT
(playfully)
If I told you, I’d have to kill you.
Wyatt moves to give Miranda a quick kiss on the cheek.
MIRANDA
Wear the blue one. It matches the sky in the Earth Room.
Wyatt begins to get dressed.
WYATT
So you’ve finally checked out the Recreation Wings?
MIRANDA
Once or twice. My favorite was the pool.
Miranda eyes Wyatt to see if he gives a reaction.
MIRANDA (CONT'D)
Have you checked it out?
WYATT
Uh, yeah. I kinda manage the whole ship, you know.
MIRANDA
Oh, right...so you gotta get going now?

WYATT
Yep. Can’t be late. I’ll probably be back late, so you can head back to your room.
MIRANDA
I’m fine waiting.
WYATT
Suit yourself.
Wyatt leaves the room with a smile to Miranda.
Miranda gets up in an instant and goes to his desk. Searching for something. Proof.

She rummages through various items before stopping at a particular one. A NOTE that reads “I KNOW THE TRUTH. POOL. 12AM.”

CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - THE ELDERS’ ROOM - NIGHT
Picture a grand open room with but only windows overlooking space and a table with five chairs at it. The room is dimly lit.

We see the chairs turned towards Wyatt as he is speaking to the Elders.

WYATT
I’m glad you all finally agreed to meet with me.
The Elders answer with deep and dark voices.
ELDER 1
What is the matter? We haven’t the time, child.
WYATT
It’s been months since you last gave me coordinates. An update on the estimated arrival.
ELDER 2
What is this foolishness you speak of?

WYATT
I know I’m not one to pry. But as manager, I have things to handle. A ship and passengers to control.
ELDER 1
Enough of the questions. You must silence them.
WYATT
I have a right to know where and when we’re going to arrive.
ELDER 3
All in its own time.
WYATT
So what am I suppose to do?

ELDER 4
Prepare the ship for Prometheus.
WYATT
I don’t think you really want me to do that.

ELDER 5
Foolishness.
ELDER 1
All will be in peace and just when we arrive.

ELDER 2
That is all you shall know for now. Do not bother us again without prior notice.
Off this meeting, we
CUT TO:

INT. STARSHIP - DAVIS’ ROOM - NIGHT
Davis lies asleep in bed as his room is lit up by the glow of the galaxy from the window.
A beat of silence until a buzz. It’s his phone. He groggily wakes up and pulls up the phone.
No caller I.D. on the screen.
DAVIS
Who is this?
We can hardly make out anything on the other line of the phone. The words come in through static and scratchiness.
PHONE VOICE (O.S.)
---he--hello?
DAVIS
Yes, who is this?
PHONE VOICE (O.S.)
--I--he---str---.
DAVIS
Meridian? Is that you? You on the Space Walk this late? Get back in the ship and go to bed.

PHONE VOICE (O.S.)
----th--left---.
DAVIS
What? I can hardly understand you.
PHONE VOICE (O.S.)
---we need--- your--help.
DAVIS
Who is this? Who needs my help?
It’s too late. The call drops.
DAVIS (CONT'D)
Hello?!
Off of this weird, startling, and shocking encounter, we...

                       SMASH TO BLACK.

                          END OF EPISODE.
